I thought those have to be the same value as your routers IP adress... I have them the same as my routers IP adress. for a year already. What good is it to change that?

I'm pretty sure DNS (Domain Name Server) is different for all internet providers... so while yours might work for you, someone else using those numbers won't be able to connect to the internet.
You should be able to find those numbers for yourself by going to a command prompt on your PC (Start->Run type cmd and press enter) and then by typing 'ipconfig /all'

Thats why you keep DNS1 and DNS2 the same value as your routers IP adres. Its then handled by the router. At least, thats how I know it.

Yes I have a EA account with my PSN tag linked - I can actually see my avatar and points etc when roaming the menu's, I can play online fine and can view my stats on the website, but just cannot upload any videos. I just get an error saying the EA server is unavailable, try again later. That has been the same error for the last week. Will opening the ports on my router solve this issue?

First, I'm glad you finally got the problem resolved! Thank you for posting your solution. A couple of things:
1. I'm not sure that deleting your game data is necessary. It may be necessary but I'd do all the networking steps first and only clear your FIFA data if it still doesn't work. Often clearing game data is a standard step tech support folks are told to do.
2. If your network has basically been working but you're just having problems with FIFA then the DNS addresses and Subnet addresses should not have to change. The key is changing your IP address from get automatically/DHCP to setting a static number as you specified. If your network had been working that maybe all you need to change on the PS3 side.

Again, I'm glad you got it sorted out and hopefully we'll get to play once it comes out here next week.

Ok, i know there are many many people suffering with this and the dreaded
THIS SESSION IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE alert.
And since i bought the game i have been too (until yesterday morning that is)

This is how i have fixed it...

First off, delete ALL game data from 08 and 09 that is saved ANYWHERE on the ps3.

Then create a new user.

(i set up a new WIRED connection to the ps3 though not sure thats needed)

yes i forwarded the ports on the BT home hub admin page with the help of BT cust service.

THEN, set up a static i.p address for the ps3. this is because, apparantly everytime your ps3 boots ip, it finds a new ip address. so if your ports are forwarded (like in the manual) they wont always be linked to the same ip address (ps3) in your house

to set that up, you need to...

go to Settings
scroll down to the very bottom and enter Network Settings

now enter Internet Connection

go to Custom

choose wired or wireless depending on what you have

now Auto Detect, then Manual

IP: - you use the same number as your default router, but change the last 3
(seek help on what to change them to. like i said, i dont know how it works, i just did it)

subnet: (seek help)
default router: whatever your router address is -
primary DNS: (seek help)
2nd DNS: (seek help)

that will have you static IP setup on your PS3.
now test the connection and see if it works.

so then,
go into your admin on ya router admin page and check the ps3 (device) is the same as that static ip address
then make sure under that device, the application you have set up (FIFA 09) is added, and enabled.

then boot up fifa 09 and start totally from scratch. (in your new user)

if it works in this new user, it should work in your old one bearing in mind you have had to delete ALL the old data b4 you did any of this...

cheers guys
matt

Yes, Matt's right... changing your IP address to a static address should work the same on the 360. From what other people said though, the ports that need to be open on the router side are much fewer.

i know it doesnt help everyone but it might help some.

if applied to the 360, it might work on that too. it would seem that way although i couldnt back that help

PS3 you need to forward at least 10 lines of ports for fifa 09 alone. nowhere near as simple. then on top of that, you need to forward 6 lines just to get it from type 3 NAT to type 2.

so for PS3, you have to look up the port numbers for the system, then you have to search the manual and input all the other ports. its a pain in the *** and i only have 10 lines available to forward ports on my router
Ummm, it's port 88 UDP, not port 80!

I thnk the OP did a good job with his DMZ story, but I find this guide much better documented. GUIDE: PUT YOUR PS3 IN A DMZ

if they dont work, and youve done all the steps ive listed and checked out portforward.com, then you may need to contact you ISP as ask them for the correct numbers
J the 130 combination you used for the last 3 on the IP address, would this be the same for the PS3 on BT Hub?

Sorry forgot to ask also:

I am not tech savvie, so bare with me, When I play FIFA 09, I can sometimes get into games, other times I just sit there on the screen with two teams (mine and guest) waiting for us to be able to connect, a lot of the times it keeps dropping out ....... the question is do I need to carry out the steps above or am I to assume that it more to do with connectivity?

Ok I realise I should probably have set up a static IP address fir my PS3 but I tried to open all the ports listed in the manual on my router using my laptop.

I didn't do anything for a couple of hours as I was watching a film, but afterward my laptop wouldn't connect to the internet and when I logged into my router it said that I was not connected to the internet. I erased all the port forwarding stuff I had done before and the internet immediately began to work.

So was there something I did wrong? do I need to allocate the opening of ports to a specific device ie my PS3? The only option I can change is for a Server IP, I figured this must be the same as the router address!?

um i've got a BT hub too, i've already got a static IP on ps3 and have forwarded ports....still have problems connecting to people......the final thing to do would be deleting all files (i'm not too sure I wanna do that )

Can you not drop them onto a memory card, delete, try FIFA, problem persists, copy back, problem solved start all over again?

memory card? whoa whoa whoa! i aint living in the early 2000s na, but I suppose I could put it on a USB stick? would have to buy one first though

Yeah I might try that, might as well, nothing to lose (apart from all my fifa history )

@JC....there's a website that was linked in here, it's a BT hub one and it tells you NOT to open DMZ, then there's a list of loads of things that won't work anymore if you do. I aint risking it.

edit: it's not a website, it's actually in your Hub Settings>Advanced>DMZ

People hacking in your PS3? When you are playing a game? And then? It doesn't work like that. The PS3 uses certain ports to communicate with the internet and only those ports are used to connect. Using your thinking: hackers could enter your PS3 anyway, even without DMZ / portforwarding, which is not the case.

DMZ just puts your PS3 in a place where it can freely connect with the internet without any interference of a firewall or need for UPnP. If your not using a firewall on your router, or you have UPnP on it, there is no reason why you would yield different results when using DMZ. Remember: those things are only there to bypass the a firewall.

There is absolutely no reason why you would have to do any portforwarding / DMZ **** besides the devs done bad coding or you have a crappy router.

Just a little tip here for those of you having trouble getting NAT Type 2 with these instructions. While they're more than adequate they don't account for the fact that many users may be using a DSL/Cable modem that has a built in router, and then connecting another router to that one for wireless capabilities. This puts you in a double NAT situation, and you'll never get NAT Type 2 on your 360/PS3.

If this is the case with your situation, you'll need remove your router from your network, put your modem in bridge mode, reinstall your router and then follow these instructions.

I'm using a wireless connection, my router is a Belkin F5D7633-4Av1_UK_1.00.17

I'm not sure about the DHCP stuff, there are a few PC's and laptops connected to it during the week though if that's any help. I have the router page in front of me, where do I look?

Just to add: The setup is spread over quite a distance, and there are three possible wireless network names I can click on for a better signal strength. I'm pretty sure they all feed back to the same router though.
