I'm pretty sure DNS (Domain Name Server) is different for all internet providers... so while yours might work for you, someone else using those numbers won't be able to connect to the internet.
You should be able to find those numbers for yourself by going to a command prompt on your PC (Start->Run type cmd and press enter) and then by typing 'ipconfig /all' |

Yes I have a EA account with my PSN tag linked - I can actually see my avatar and points etc when roaming the menu's, I can play online fine and can view my stats on the website, but just cannot upload any videos. I just get an error saying the EA server is unavailable, try again later. That has been the same error for the last week. Will opening the ports on my router solve this issue?

First, I'm glad you finally got the problem resolved! Thank you for posting your solution. A couple of things:
1. I'm not sure that deleting your game data is necessary. It may be necessary but I'd do all the networking steps first and only clear your FIFA data if it still doesn't work. Often clearing game data is a standard step tech support folks are told to do. 2. If your network has basically been working but you're just having problems with FIFA then the DNS addresses and Subnet addresses should not have to change. The key is changing your IP address from get automatically/DHCP to setting a static number as you specified. If your network had been working that maybe all you need to change on the PS3 side. Again, I'm glad you got it sorted out and hopefully we'll get to play once it comes out here next week. Quote:

Yes, Matt's right... changing your IP address to a static address should work the same on the 360. From what other people said though, the ports that need to be open on the router side are much fewer.

Sorry forgot to ask also:
I am not tech savvie, so bare with me, When I play FIFA 09, I can sometimes get into games, other times I just sit there on the screen with two teams (mine and guest) waiting for us to be able to connect, a lot of the times it keeps dropping out ....... the question is do I need to carry out the steps above or am I to assume that it more to do with connectivity?

Ok I realise I should probably have set up a static IP address fir my PS3 but I tried to open all the ports listed in the manual on my router using my laptop.
I didn't do anything for a couple of hours as I was watching a film, but afterward my laptop wouldn't connect to the internet and when I logged into my router it said that I was not connected to the internet. I erased all the port forwarding stuff I had done before and the internet immediately began to work. So was there something I did wrong? do I need to allocate the opening of ports to a specific device ie my PS3? The only option I can change is for a Server IP, I figured this must be the same as the router address!? |

um i've got a BT hub too, i've already got a static IP on ps3 and have forwarded ports....still have problems connecting to people......the final thing to do would be deleting all files (i'm not too sure I wanna do that
)

Are you using wired on wireless connection ? And what router ? Are you using the DHCP as the server or is it turned off ? |

na, but I suppose I could put it on a USB stick? would have to buy one first though![]() Yeah I might try that, might as well, nothing to lose (apart from all my fifa history @JC....there's a website that was linked in here, it's a BT hub one and it tells you NOT to open DMZ, then there's a list of loads of things that won't work anymore if you do. I aint risking it.edit: it's not a website, it's actually in your Hub Settings>Advanced>DMZ

DMZ just puts your PS3 in a place where it can freely connect with the internet without any interference of a firewall or need for UPnP. If your not using a firewall on your router, or you have UPnP on it, there is no reason why you would yield different results when using DMZ. Remember: those things are only there to bypass the a firewall. |

There is absolutely no reason why you would have to do any portforwarding / DMZ **** besides the devs done bad coding or you have a crappy router.
Just a little tip here for those of you having trouble getting NAT Type 2 with these instructions. While they're more than adequate they don't account for the fact that many users may be using a DSL/Cable modem that has a built in router, and then connecting another router to that one for wireless capabilities. This puts you in a double NAT situation, and you'll never get NAT Type 2 on your 360/PS3. If this is the case with your situation, you'll need remove your router from your network, put your modem in bridge mode, reinstall your router and then follow these instructions. |

I'm not sure about the DHCP stuff, there are a few PC's and laptops connected to it during the week though if that's any help. I have the router page in front of me, where do I look? Just to add: The setup is spread over quite a distance, and there are three possible wireless network names I can click on for a better signal strength. I'm pretty sure they all feed back to the same router though. Last edited by JC83; 09-10-2008 at 02:14 PM.. |
