Well that's the last straw for me.

You can't choose to play against people with semi manual controls. What a poor decision, EA, you should really hang your heads in shame for that omission because you've ruined potentially such a good game.

One question to EAUK_Adroit, i dont know if this is true but are gonna be a patch for FIFA 09 from Xbox 360, because i read this:

"We are happy to release the news of the first patch for FIFA 09. Here are the details following the new patch EA is releasing on October 23rd:
* Dummy wall for freekicks in the Arena
* Editing kit number in Manager Mode
* Improved playeradvantages after fouls
* Removed yellow/red card bugs
* Decreased online play bug
* New option to access all arena fields and choosing which one to play in
* Improved dressingroom in FIFA 09 Clubs

This will be released because of its fans disappointment about the downs in the game. However, please note that this only has been confirmed for the Microsoft Xbox 360.
FIFA 09; It's in the game. "

it was post and i wanna now if its true or just a fake, i hope u can answer me that o anybody.

Pd. i dont have the FIFA 09 right now, i live in Mexico and the game come en 3 days =D i cant wait 2 buy, sea ya

To be fair, I think EA have been slowly but surely adding more and more options and customization settings to the game. Although, "forcing" manual controls might be difficult. How much coding would be needed to "check" what control options a user has set and then match that up with others with similar settings?

They have enough issues with lag and disappearing players as it is, ATM.

One thing FIFA really needs is to have an All-Manual Leaderboard. I hate how we get kids like Figo and Vriendloos posting about how good they are when they play with everything assisted and have the computer make the decisions for them. That way the best FIFA player will undisputably be the best.

E.A please review defensive lines they're two high.I don't mean to keep banging on about it but this is the biggest glitch there way too high. Also fully agree with the point about manual controls being overly sensitive.I've already stopped playing 09 If you could fix these two issues then I would be elated.I think editing kit numbers and other stuff is irrelevant at the moment. We play the game for the gameplay that must come fist

Hi all!

How's everyone doing on this World Cup Qualifier week-end... I just watched France overcome Boumsong's 'brilliant' defending to snatch a 2-2 draw against Romania. Try to see Gourcuff's 35-yard screamer, it's a beauty!

Also, I just wanted to confirm that:
1 - we are still working on fixes for a patch
2 - the list is not final yet, and anything you see currently posted is fake
3 - we'll know more in the coming week or so

Hi Christophe, do you have any idea when we could expect this patch? I understand you can't give an exact date but is it more likely to come in November than October?

Hi I would like to congratulate the EA Sports next gen team for making such a good Fifa game. It plays a lot better than Fifa did on my ps3.

I have also a few questions I want you the developers to answer. I am a PC gamer and would like to know what amount of processing power the next gen gameplay will really take to run it on a pc, does Fifa take advantage of the vector processing of the consoles? Will the game run on a core 2 duo if its recoded for the pc? The only reason I am asking is, I would like to play the game at a higher resolution with aa enabled to make the lines look better. If you can tell me what kind of processor you expect it to run on, that would be great. Do you know if the pc team are thinking about porting the game over? If not then I guess I will have to settle for the ps3 version which is still great.

EA_ChristopheLabrune, please take a minute or two and read my comment. thank you.

First, let me congratulate you for the amazing fifa 09 game. it is a real improvement. please be kind to read my question to you. i would appreciate your sincere and quick response.

We are a group of 4 fifa players from israel, that play the game since fifa 2006 and stayed loyal all the way. we just bought the new fifa 09 and a PS3 system and got ready to start a tournament, like we have done in fifa 06, 07 and 08.
in our tournaments - we create a new tournament with "tournament mode" (group and knock-out), each player picks a team and then each game of the player picked team, the other three players play against him, as the cpu team. this way, all of us plays all tournament long, and it is very exciting and long.

i will make an example so you can understand it fully :

lets say we make a group and knock out tourney. we choose 32 teams and each one of us picks his team. i pick AC Milan. in my group stage i got PSV Eindhoven, Villareal and Stutgart. my first game is against PSV Eindhoven (which is a not selected by a player). all the other three dont have to see me play against the CPU, the try to win me themselvs and try to make me not pass the group stage. everyone plays all games of the tourney!

each player from the four has his own team, and all other players play against him each and every game, trying to win him on his try to win the cup.

and...when it comes to a players team against a players team in the quarter final, semi final or final... imagine how big this game becomes. a total prestigious football match, and then it is a pleasure for the others to sit down and watch this head to head game.
dont you think this is a great way to play the game with friends?

i am shocked and amazed to see that this option is not available anymore. when we wanted to start a game (1 player against 3 players) after creating a tournament, we could only be on the same side (the player picked team) and not play 3 on 1 as we were used and loved to do.

is there any way to change this thing? am i missing something? please help us!
WE DONT WANT TO MOVE TO PES! WE WANT TO STAY LOYAL TO THE GAME WE LOVE SO MUCH!

please help us with this issue. we want to continue enjoying fifa games, but with this issue there is no way we can play it anymore.

we will be so thankful if you fix this with a patch we could install. please be kind to help 4 loyal costumers who feels very bad now because of this.

thank you.

Guys is it me or do the shots from far have no damn power what so ever, my girlfriend kicks the ball harder then these guys. I have never scored from far once. It seems when i shoot from far the ball always goes high and it floats, very very annoying.

I know, I'm quite realistic about the fact it's not going to get changed, and probably not next year either.

It seems EA has these great options but doesn't give a **** if people can actually use them. Do control settings even affect arena mode? It seems completely random.

This game would be the best thing ever created imo, if they just let people play against people with the same settings.

I don't want to play against some noob using fully assisted controls that presses through ball three times to Torres and finesse's it across the keeper. Every goal is the same and it's so repetitive, yet I am FORCED to play that way online because there is no other alternative than playing full manual which is like ****ing in the wind. (and no one even plays it)

I'm sorry for the harsh language but it really annoys me. It's even more annoying that it was the same in FIFA 08 but no one even thought of changing this.

another example of the terrible advantage system:

This was posted by Calcutta from Operation Sports:

EA SPORTS Football World - NEWCASTLE UTD - NOTTS COUNTY 0 - 0

Goal didn't count. A free kick was given instead at the edge of the box.

The ball physics have changed from FIFA08.

This includes the way FIFA simulates curl and air resistance.

The reason long shots have little power, as you write, is primarily because the ball looses speed when flying for longer distances.
The reason it "floats" is because they reworked the way the ball curls as you shoot. The ball now has, in most situations, a higher tendency to get backspin (as opposed to FIFA08, where the ball almost always had a lobbed kind of trajectory).
The backspin keeps the ball in the air for a longer period of time, and adds height to the flight path.
Also, combine these 2 elements, curl and air resistance, and you also get a "upswing" effect at the end of a trajectory.
FIFA09 seems to have alot of emphasis on how the ball curls at various speeds. Lower ball speed allows for more curl. This means that as the ball looses speed as the ball approaches goal after a long shot, the curl will affect the ball more than at the start. This causes the ball to get some extra lift and "floatiness" at the end.

The solution is to shoot with players who have good shot power and long shot stats. Also, simply apply less power on the shot. Sounds simple enough, but if you make it a habit to tap the button more tiems than you hold for a longer time, shots will start hitting goal.

Also keep in mind that long shots in real life aren't really successful. You usually need alot of pace on the shot, aiming that puts the ball beside a post or bar, and an obscured or slightly mistimed keeper to get a goal. If either of these elements aren't there, it's usually an easy save.

A final tip might be to practice by playing games on a fairly easy difficulty with a team like Brazil or such, and taking lots of shots with a player like Adriano. Since these players are very skilled and have a high consistency, it is easier to get a hang of the basic gameplay mechanics and how they are programmed. Once you can use these players and shoot good shots form long range, then you just start using worse and worse players, and learn how to compensate for their lesser skill. It's never going to be easy to hit 30 meter crackers though.
