Im not for a second saying he is a poor dribbler, but nowhere near messi, kaka or ronaldinho.

His finishing will also be fantastic. Ok 42 goals would suggest that hes a great finisher. However, the fact is ronaldo had 255 shots last season, leaving him with a terrible goals/shot ratio compared to most in the premiership. 171 of those shots came in the prem, where he scored 31-34 goals? just because he shoots alot should not mean hes a good finisher.

I garuntee someone like ruud v.n would have twice as good a ratio, a truely great finisher.

Also, free kicks....How many does he kick straight inot the wall?? He's like roberto carlos, 1 or 2 screamers every 5 years..Hes nowhere near the quality of juninho or nakamura, but garunteed he'll be among the best in the game again.

Ronaldos strengths should come with his pace, strength, heading, stamina long shots(shot power more than accuracy).

But no doubt ronaldo will be unstopable yet again, with having near perfect everything.

sigh. "

Thats a qoute i stick by from my ownthread about the same thing. 41 goals from 255 shots is not as impressive.

My original post: Ronaldo overrated again??

Unstoppable again? I don't have any problems in 08 when I play someone using MU, actually, it's almost too easy when they try to use him TOO MUCH. I think it's fun either way, doesn't anyone like a challenge anymore?

Yeah true. The very reasons why our goal difference was so high.

It must also be noted that Ronaldo IS NOT a striker per se, making his achievements last season on the offensive end much more impressive IMO. As I recall, when he started playing for Sporting, wasn't he more of a defensive player?

Yes, I know this. But 40 some odd goals in all competitions is still a HUGE contributing factor. You can't have assists without goals!

not true and that's the kind of comment that stinks of fanboyism b2b not being very clued up.

They are the 2 best attacking players in the world and ronaldo probably edges it based on his amazing form last season and the one before but to say messi doesn't come close to him is laughable and im sure ronaldo would laugh in your face as well if you told him that.

when man united played barca messi completely outshone ronaldo during both matches, im not saying that makes him a better player but he is certainly very close to ronaldo in terms of talent, lots would argue he is better.

Rooney was shocking last season. He is living in Ronaldo's shadow.

My point is ronaldo is playing for a quality side who make him look a lot better than he is, whereas messi is playing for a poor side and still looking world class. 42 goals is great but 7 assists..as a supposed "winger". Thats ****e. Messi more than doubled that in half the amount of games and sored 23 goals in half the games.

Does that fact that many are still considering messi as competition to ronaldo for world player of the year despite ronaldos goals and despite messi being out injured for 2 months not tell you something about the quality difference?

BTW Messi has done everything ronaldo has done plus more honours wise, and he is 2 years younger.

We will see at the world cup 2010 who shines and who dissapears. you know, the the biggest footall tournement in the world. No derby countys or west broms in that competition. just decent teams. But given ronaldos performance trak record in the big games against half decent opposition....he should be just fine eh?

In a span of a season Messi did nothing compared to Ronaldo which is why he will win WPOY. Watching Messi this year he has been absent in the Barca attack. Nothing goes through him every thing goes through Xavi and Iniesta. That number 10 shirt is too big for him.

were only 5 games into the season so far, way too early to be making any kind of judgements.

and the point is you said he's not even in the same class as him, most people would ridicule you for a quote like that and no offense but i think people diego maradona are probably more qualified to judge a players ability than you are.

xavi sits in the middle of the park you lalala. Of course everything goes through him, that is of course unless you paly like wimbeldon of old and just hoof it up to a big no.9

Watching messi this season? 4 goals in 4 games so far and 3 assists? not bad considering 'nothing goes through him'. oh and thats him almost equaled ronaldos assits from the whole of last season.

23 goals? Messi scored 16 goals in 40 appearances. That's according to Wikipedia. Ronaldo had 42 goals in 49 appearances. They aren't even close, in terms of goals. Ronaldo also would have had quite a few more assists, if it wasn't for poor finishing on Rooney's & Tevez's behalf.
