Im not for a second saying he is a poor dribbler, but nowhere near messi, kaka or ronaldinho.

His finishing will also be fantastic. Ok 42 goals would suggest that hes a great finisher. However, the fact is ronaldo had 255 shots last season, leaving him with a terrible goals/shot ratio compared to most in the premiership. 171 of those shots came in the prem, where he scored 31-34 goals? just because he shoots alot should not mean hes a good finisher.

I garuntee someone like ruud v.n would have twice as good a ratio, a truely great finisher.

Also, free kicks....How many does he kick straight inot the wall?? He's like roberto carlos, 1 or 2 screamers every 5 years..Hes nowhere near the quality of juninho or nakamura, but garunteed he'll be among the best in the game again.

Ronaldos strengths should come with his pace, strength, heading, stamina long shots(shot power more than accuracy).

But no doubt ronaldo will be unstopable yet again, with having near perfect everything.

sigh. "

Thats a qoute i stick by from my ownthread about the same thing. 41 goals from 255 shots is not as impressive.

My original post: Ronaldo overrated again??

Opta stats : Opta Stats for the EPL season 2007-08 « About all the football that I get to watch and about some I dont
sounds a bit biased to me, oh btw great name

They are the 2 best attacking players in the world and ronaldo probably edges it based on his amazing form last season and the one before but to say messi doesn't come close to him is laughable and im sure ronaldo would laugh in your face as well if you told him that.

when man united played barca messi completely outshone ronaldo during both matches, im not saying that makes him a better player but he is certainly very close to ronaldo in terms of talent, lots would argue he is better.
that match is irrelevant now a days, so he played better than Ronaldo. At the end i saw Ronaldo lifting the CL Cup and messi watching him lift it from his couch. that overrated midget.

It's because according to most Ronaldo is a cheat when Messi is the biggest cheat for already emultaing his idol Maradona with the "hand of god 2"

yeah hehe, but gotta admit messi is really a great player, and he´s only 21..but time will tell how much better he will get, who knows he will end up like Michael Owen... in 2001 the golden ball (best player on the world) and some few years later a benchwarmer for Madrid (they are pro´s at destroying talents anyways) and then playing at Newcastle United.. remember Owen still is only 28..

If I am not mistaken a small, Belgian team that managed a victory against Bayern Munich which may not be in the Premiership but is still nothing to scoff at.

It's interesting how heated the argument gets once CR7 is mentioned. All the fanboys flock to his defence without any logic behind it, making it difficult for the true supporters to legitimize their case. Then the name calling starts, people start pulling stats and it turns to a whole mess.

Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to be the best attacking player in the world. It would be more realistic if there was a defensive player who's Overall rating was as high as that. However because people feel that scoring goals takes more effort than preventing them, Attacking players get higher ratings. Now...if you get the Live season this won't be an issue. If he plays like lalalala his rating will be lowered if he plays excellent it'll be raised. That being said if you're not willing to pay for it and still want to complain about the rating given, then too bad its obvious that the makers of the game are pushing for this feature to become popular so it will cater more to those who get it.

Cristiano Ronaldo should be a 91, based on last season's performance. And thats fine with me he had a hell of a season. The argument that he had 1 lalalala game is pointless because unless you have live season, then the last game's results are useless. Now if he had a lalalala game but his rating didn't go down then you can complain, but as that is not the case...stop.

Lionel Messi is also a brilliant player, maybe not as great as CR7 but definitely deserving of a rating near that. It would be difficult to lower his rating as they can't change the ratings until the game is actually out. so its based off of his last number of seasons. Seeing as he was injured for a lot of last season it would be quite difficult to make any judgement on whether or not he has lost his ability to play as well as he has before. Now on top of that. A lot of the rating ability comes from things that aren't measured by game performance. For example. If Drogba has a terrible game where he misses all of his shots, does that mean he's not as fast or as strong as he was before...No that sort of thing happens over time. What would be affected might be his finishing. And if that were lowered 5 or 10 pts it might not drastically effect his OVR.

So if CR7 has a lalalala game with bad passing, and shooting etc. then it doesn't mean he is less able, it just means he wasn't doing what he could normally do. So I figure when they rate players in the beginning the factor in the Potential of the player as well to make the Live season processing a bit easier. Maybe to provide Maximum potential for the players. So say this 91 is CR7s max is that still upsetting?

Default For god sakessss

put the ball to ronaldos feet at half field and see what he does.. he might run down the line and stop do a simple step over and then fall over like he got knocked out by Ali or Mirko Cro Cop, ur ***** ronaldo has scored the most penalties in the english leauge and half of them were lalalain dives. Now give messi the ball from half feild take it down the line 2-3 guys on him at once and thier gone because messi just f*** them over and supplied a beautiful ball to one of his teamates. If u think that ronaldo can hold on to thhe ball more then messi go on youtube type in messi and just watch the players falling at his feet. Buut not only does he pass them he takes the lalalain time to look up and give a simple through ball to anyone he wishes to. Do you know why ronaldo scored more goels then him because he had lalalain service ex.. rooney makes good passes, scholes provides good through balls it doesnt really matter the way u look at it and then take the time to see how many times messi gets the ball from his teamates plz. He is a a winger who goes back to half field to get the ball so he can make sumthing happen for barcelona. just watch how many times he makes the right decsions or gets pulled or kicked down he doesnt roll on the floor like a little sh** he gets up and plays the early pass, BY THE WAY people talking about ronaldos goals from last season and previeous ones too. Look at the top 20 goals from messi and see if ronaldo will ever be able to accomplish anything like hs greats. When he was 19 HE RAPED THE FIELD he made ronaldinho WORK he TOOK ARGENTINA ALL THE WAY to the finals in the fifa under 20 world cup scoring the most goals and becoming thier young hero. He won the World SOCCER YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN 2005, UNDER 21 WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR, why am i even saying this go look in the wikipedia for his wins and OHH WAIT heres one remember when ronaldo messi and kaka were on the stage together and kaka was awarded the fifa player of the year award for 2007, and then they accidenally gave ronaldo runner up award which confused me till they TOOK IT FORM HIS HANDS AND GAVE THAT SH88 TO MR MESSI !!! omg i am soo tierd i will rest and hopfully u understand what i said alriight !!!!!! cyaaa

you forgot to mention 1 important detail. Messi, when coming from half field gets injured (again) like a little ***** that he is. it's like a tradition for him to get injured every season. it's pretty obvious you're biased considering you only posted Messi's accomplishments and not Ronaldo's. Let me just throw something out (too many awards to mention), Messi has and never will score 42 goals in a single season and he's a foward tsk tsk. why not call CR7 Mr.42 it's ok, Ronaldo is basking in the hate, by now it's just like cologne. Peace

You are either blind or you haven't watched any Man Utd matches last year...

Rooney was and still is the most important offensive factor in our team if you count out Ronaldo. He sacrifaces himself by running his butt of going back to help the defence and he is the one that sets up most of Ronaldo's goals by either being second last on the ball or third last. He was third on the assist ranking last season, he had 2 more than Gerrard and he trashed Lampards 8. He had some appearances less than the others (not significantly less).

He is no superstriker when it comes to scoring goals, but one of the reasons he doesn't score is because he sacrifices himself by going back all the time instead of Ronaldo. If Rooney had been hanging out with Ronaldo up there all the time he might aswell had scored 25+ goals...
