To be honest it sounds like a con.
If it doesn't affect game modes and it doesn't affect on-line, what is the point? What is my motivation to even bother with a free trial let alone pay for more leagues? The concept was a great idea until the usual EA boffin decided to charge for it, the concept is revolutionary and could kick other sports games in the dirt. I really liked the idea until I saw the $$$$$ sentence. I think I'll pass, hopefully not an auto-assisted pass.

can i ask, is this the "super secret online stuff" = live season? or should we expect a few more announcements before the end of the show?
i heard one of the previews mention they couldn't play the latest version and had to make do with one that was 6 weeks old, because the latest version had online features that hadn't been announced yet.

I think we're misinterpreting whats being said. The sentence reads "Gamers will have access to one league of their choice for a free* trial from the moment they activate it to the end of the 2008-2009 season."
Doesnt this mean that from the moment we activate the adidas league we may use it till the end of the season 08/09 but subject to only 1 of the leagues.!!! Thus i think im goin to just select English Premier league n free trial it thru-out the year till season ends 08/09 |

im puzzled as well, why are they bothering even doing this if it doesn't seem to affect any game modes?
im not really bothered about manager mode, if the stats are the updated ones when you start MM then that fine. I don't want my FANTASY team being affected by real world stats. there would be no point in developing young talent or anything, it just wouldnt work.

Live season will impact your game modes. So it will be carried over into your online play too. However, it wont restrict you in who you can play against, if you play someone who doesnt have Live season then thats fine. They will just have to use the default ratings while you will be using the updated ones.
The cost for this feature will be announced closer to the games release.

to be fair on ea i dont think there is a way they could have offered this for free. Think about it, they need possibly need around 10-11 people for every team they cover in the game. thats a LOT of people to be on the payroll (even for EA).
It would be interesting to know if EA hire these scouts for fifa specifically, or whether they get data from 3rd parties (theres plenty of companies who track stats for fantasy football etc). if it came as a monthly payment option, we could in theory, just buy an update every one/two/three months instead of every week (where you might not see much changes anyway)
