Initially I was impressed with Fifa 08 - it's the first one I have played since switching to PES in 2004 but now I can't help but think that this year's game has fluked success owing to the terrible effort from Konami.

Initially a hack button, then goals from almost anywhere on the pitch, free kicks and corners with arrows, useless off the ball control system, beapro has been quite good but there's nothing to it and now it's just cutbacks and triple taps .... the whole time the gameplay supporting these gimmicks has been at best second-rate even if EA have said it will improve every year.

This year we have a collision system and 50,000 tactical combinations to choose from. What's wrong with a simple and easy to use formation editor with a few tactical options? Why do we need a 'new revolutionary collision system' when they haven't even sorted out the normal gameplay?

Every year they punch above their weight and end up back where they started. Isn't it about time that EA stopped with all the computer-game gimmicks and started concentrating on football instead?

Let's hope i'm wrong and Fifa 09 is the game we have all been eagerly anticipating, but EA better realise that 08 has been so successful because thousands of PES fans were short-changed, and if they want to keep their new following they will need something more than a few gimmicks.

Post of the year!

Exactly what i think.

O really?!
I thought you have to know how to play real guitar and how to read the notes ,then you could play stupid 4 buttons(red green blue yellow) Guitar hero!!
If you dont get the point of this thread its because of you dont know about the fact that football is
all about strategies, making right decisions at the right time, have different plans for winnig against different teams and...
even making one stupid substitutions could turn the score at the end of the match in real life football...
and unfortunately FIFA has none of the above! 'pretty much same way of playing for each game'
I really hope that its true they said every single matches in FIFA 09 is diffrent.

Forza is a racing game, and a great racing game at that - I don't have a XBOX myself so I had to play NeedForSpeed, which is nowhere near as good as Forza, again, why!? Because EA spent too much time on gimmicks lol Plus the AI in a racing game is not as complicated as a football game, mind you it is more complicated than that Guitar Hero nonsense, what AI is there?

Of course it's a video-game and anyone can learn to play, I don't see how giving the game more realistic gameplay will prevent that? It's a win for everyone - beginners who play amongst themselves will still be able to play.

I think it's easy to tell by watching a game of fifa who knows the game.
Do these friends of yours own the game? Cause it sounds like they just come over to your house and play it once. Of course you'll beat someone who doesn't know the controls and everything.

But have you ever played online in FIFA08? You can know nothing any football but as long as you know the controls (x to pass, square to cross, double tap square for low cross, etc.) you can beat someone. All you need to do is take C. Ronaldo down the wing and pass it in the box. Your defenders don't respond, the GK goes into no man's land and they score. Even if you know how to defend it, 1/20 cutbacks will still make it into the goal.

Usually people vary it a little, like maybe a 1-2 or something but I actually just played someone who had 400,000+ points and he just ran like Forrest Gump, zooom the whole game, no variations, just hardcore running up the line, Ronaldo passed it do my defender so many times it was ridiculous, I don't think my RB actually made a tackle lol. And the stupidest thing is C.Ronaldo was still sprinting like crazy in the 90th minute!

FIFA will never be football. Video games will never be real life.
