Default Suggestions - Be A Pro Opened Doors to Exciting Possibilities

Last year's FIFA 08 set new standards on next-gen football video games. By breaking through the series' long-lasting tradition of lack of innovation, the EA Canada staff has left some pretty big shoes to fill. Yet with the newly opened doors to exciting possibilities of Be A Pro, the expectations for this year's installment may well be higher than ever before - and rightly so.

FIFA 08's very original Be A Pro mode was by far the most highly anticipated key feature of last year's game. By playing as one professional and viewing the field through his eyes with the Be A Pro camera, YOU can be Ronaldinho - YOU can be Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Be A Pro was missing a key necessity that gamers expect to find incorporated in any game mode: a plot. You couldn't go on from season to season with your selected player; as much as the actual gameplay was fun, you were only able to play meaningless exhibition games. Those meaningless exhibition games provided the gamer with no sense of setting nor motivation to Be A Pro.

This year, Be A Pro: Seasons promises much more. By honing a player's skills and mastering his position on the field over a four year campaign, Be A Pro: Seasons is shaped up to surpass the level of complexity of Manager Mode. But I've got a funny feeling we won't be seeing that level of complexity this year.

What the FIFA series have failed to include in the game up to date is an amalgamation of player physical and mental skill. Truly, Manager Mode incorporated player "morale" at one point in the FIFA series, but player confidence, form and mental fatigue were never integrated to decide player performance. Just as in real life, confidence must become influential in a player's performance. How strong are you mentally when you've missed a penalty? How composed are you when you're losing late on? (This idea can be introduced by a simple in-game "confidence/form meter") Paired with the Create A Player feature, Be A Pro needs to integrate human characteristics into the player's professional life. Indeed, physical skill is essential in any athlete, but mental skill more so.

So I propose, instead of creating yourself as a footballer, why not create yourself as a person? Customizing passing, shooting and dribbling stats to the exact is all well and good, but it's the player's mentality that separates the best from the rest - confidence, persistence, leadership, charisma and determination stats are all human characteristics that are pivotal in a footballer's personality and must be integrated in the game. Are you mentally strong enough to play with the big boys? Are you brave enough to challenge Rio Ferdinand for a header? Are you courageous enough to challenge Gennaro Gattuso for a loose ball? Are you scared of getting injured? Are you positive enough to become a winner? Are you confident enough to try the audacious? Do you have to be involved in every play or are you a silent assassin? Are you man enough to boss the midfield? Are you a cool-head or do you play at boiling point? How badly do yo want to make it to the top?

Furthermore, Be A Pro needs to have a complete training mode in it. You can Be A Pro in practice, stay after practice to practice some more and your physical skill would rise with the hours of practice you put in. And remember, practice makes perfect: practicing free-kicks will make you a free-kick expert, practicing penalties will make you trustworthy from the penalty spot, and practicing your dribbles or shots will make you a better center forward. This feature is not too difficult to imply, time spent in Arena Mode should up your player's stats - simple as that. And, maybe, all those hours of practice will be rewarded by individual awards, such as the Barclay's Premier League Young Player of the Year or the FIFA World Player of the Year.

Lastly, off-field events must be included in this game mode. Are you Nike or Adidas? Do you do interviews? Do you do advertisements? Are you popular with the press, the public? Do you let that affect your performances on the field? Needless to say, off-field activities influence, for the better or worse, a pro's performance on the pitch.

With all the above suggestions, the FIFA gamer will truly be able to Be A Pro rather than simply Be A Player.

Let this be a constructive thread concentrating solely on Be A Pro mode. Personal suggestions, feedback and constructive criticism are all welcome.

EA_Canada need to take note of EA's other titles; Madden NFL & NCAA Football on how to make an in-depth Be-A-Pro mode.

They've only scratched the surface and have considerable room to improve. First and last suggestion would be: Why the hell is Be-A-Pro: Career Mode, only 4 seasons long?

Two steps forward and one step back..

What will be amazing is if they create a Be a Pro career.

Start at a small club or B team, fight for your spot, lead team to promotion, join better club, eventually go to a giant club like Real Madrid or Inter.

Also stuff should happen like troublemakers on your team creating scandals against you, etc to make it more interesting.

what i would suggest ini be a pro mode is like the op said, the ability to customize your own player and has you play online, your stats increase such has shot power, passing accuracy etc.. this would be like a kind of rpg element in be a pro for online play. the more you play and do well, the higher your stats become and depending on what position your in, only certain stats can be maxed out ie if your a defender, its possible that your defence and tacklinge can be maxed out but not your shot accuracy

I think they should also add a multi-player feature in Be A Pro. Split-screen, you against your friend(s).
