All this "next gen" "PS3 port" ... seriously..... WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?
Have you tried.. i mean really tried to play this game. And use the mouse control feature that is ONLY available on our beloved PC? We ALL go off on one about how good it is on "THIS" or "THAT" platform. But have you tried the feature that makes OUR version of the game so special. The MOUSE. I've played pro evo since 2000 (ISS)... i've played FIFA for 5 years. I have Pro Evo on the Wii, which changed football games for me, forEVER. POint and Pass / PLay controls are the way forward. Forget control pads. Use the mouse. Go on. Just try it. But you won't will you? You won't do it. this makes football games so much more realistic. SURE, it's hard - but is anything worth doing easy? Its 2008 now guys. Embrace the change. I bet most of you guys are between 20-35 years old... and do you know what... you're already sounding like your parents "oh i don't like change" "Oh it's not like it used to be". "this modern music is rubbish, there's no melody - it's just bang bang bang" you know the kind of thing. Do you get the picture? FA09 Is, quite simply, the BEST football game i've ever played. Seriously guys. Spend less time moaning, and more time mastering the game... you never know - you might just pull your heads out of your arses. If i was EA listening to most of the comments on here, I would consider ditching the PC release altogether. Sorry if i upset you. I just cannot comprehend, (with how much i love this game), that other people don't like it. Please please try mouse... not once or twice and disregard it. Try for ten games or half a season - you never know. You just might like it. Whoever made this game deserves a medal. |

Okay pal, whatever you say. I've played these games for 15 years, since "Kick Off" on the Atari ST. This is the best. You really think the guys who made this have monumentally screwed up? I think they know exactly what they're doing. My guess is this.
You tried the mouse. Maybe once, twice, at a puch 5 times... maybe even ten. I'm on my third season, so I'm in a good position to judge. I don't want to be an ****, and make enemies on this site. I respect everyones choices and likes / dislikes. Hey - maybe i'm wrong. But i just can't believe people have given it a good enough try. I truly truly apologise if i'm wrong. I'm pragmatic about the whole thing. I want to start and encourage debate, and who knows maybe turn one or two people on to the mouse. That's all. I want to start a wee bit of a guide. I've copied and pasted most of this from other posts, so it's a little "bitty" (oooh bitty), and contrived, and a bit jumbled... but it should do the trick. Feedback and more tips from other users welcomed. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Curling the ball is simple... point and shoot, then whip the mouse in the direction you want to curl... so if you playing left to right aim and shoot to the left (top) side of the goal, then after the shot, pull the mouse quickly downwards and it will curl towards the right (bottom). It's basically an "after touch" movement with the mouse. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- also it's keys 1,2,3 and 4 for tactics ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5 for setting your team up attacking / midfield or defending - when the yellow arrow points up, you'll be more attacking. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- to do the defence - "FB" and all that - press "shift" then 1,2,3 and 4 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Chip pass = double tap on the pass button (left mouse button) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Knocking the ball forward = when running fast with the space bar keep hitting the left alt button - this will push the ball forward. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- When you receiving the ball, if you hold the middle button down, and drag the mouse in the direction you want to go, this will knock the ball in that direction ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "ctrl" plus mouse shoot button works for lob shot. |

I've played it on the 360. It's not the console that bothers me. It's the control method. It needed to move on. It wasn't realistic enough.
I like to choose where the ball goes, and choose where and when the players run. Thats all. And Shibby man. I don't even know what you mean by that first sentence. I love using the mouse. I'm not particularly loving the fact I can use it. Man... i'm gonna be, like, enemy No1 on this site aren't I. I just can't believe everyone can hate a game so much, that i love so much. I must have dreadful taste. |

I'm 31 and there is no way in hell I am going to play Fifa with a bloody mouse. I am not afraid of change, but I think its silly playing soccer with a mouse - and you mention the wii (its for little kids mate)

Okay pal.
Do you know what. There's something fairly fundamental i forgot to say. I don't play with the WASD keys. NO. I use the method where the player follows the mouse cursor on the screen. It's more Wii like and really intuitive. My left hand is on the keys, basically pressing the space for run faster, and the alt key for tricks. Plus the number keys for strategy. You know, your comment about the Wii is funny. 95% of the games, I agree, are utter rubbish. 5% are ace. It's a social thig though. Get your pals round - have a few joints - and hammer Mario Striker Charged Football, or Boom Blox or Mario Kart. You'll laugh till you cry, and you'll have some of the best competetive banter you've had in your life. Please please don't respond to this last paragraph though. I donlt want this to turn into a Wii forum. That's another matter entirely. And i can already guess your comments - about the fact that because i own a Wii i haven't got a clue about anything. That type of stuff. |

Good response and I agree with a lot of your points. each to their own I suppose. I just fins soccer games more realistic using a controller and I can sit back on the lounge and play rather than lean over a keyboard
![]() PS I do actually like playing some games on the wii and its on my wishlist for xmas ha ha |

shibby.... do me a favour pal. Have two or three games now, using "mouse movement" like a describe above (where the players follow the mouse cursor) not keyboard WASD.
Get back to me in half hour and let me know what you think and you Sctlndrlz.. please. Go on... let us know what you think. Even just 1 game.... like, throw me a frickin bone here |

Sctlndrlz you're bad man... after dissing the wii. If you get one, let me tell you - most of the games ARE ****.
Get: -Boom Blox (created by no other than EA and Steven Spielberg - seriously). -Mario Kart -Mario Strikers Charged Football (don't expect a real football game - it's like 5-a-side) dead simple controls. Use weapons etc. Pro Evo Wii - Okay. This game will take you 2 WEEKS... i mean it 2 WEEKS to master. Patience is a must. Once you've done it - your rewards will be just my son. Honestly - after a few days you'll think you'll know it all... but keep going. Tiger Woods Golf Call of Duty World at War. Forget everything else, and these SO CALLED party games. Again - please disregard this post as neing "part" of this forum. Its between me and Sctlndrlz. |

get home from work... where are you? It's like 11pm here.
Okay - do you know the fundamentals? print this off and take it home Firstly use mouse buttons and NOT WASD... have i mentioned that? left mouse button pass --------------------------------------- right mouse button shoot --------------------------------------- roll middle mouse button somewhere on the pitch and a player will run to that point --------------------------------------------- roll the mouse button while the cursor is over a man and he will make a forward run ----------------------------------------- SO. if you point to an area of the pitch and roll the mouse button, THEN press pass and a player will run to that spot and a pass will meet him. ------------------------------------------------------- When you're just about to recieve the ball, hold the middle mouse button and move it in the direction you wanna run - this will kind of push the ball out -------------------------------------------- hold space and you will run faster ------------------------------------------ when your running toward the cursor (not with space held) hold middle button and: DRAW A CIRCLE - player will spin Hold the middle button and (again the cursor shold be in front of the player cos the player is running toward it) so hold it and PULL BACK TOWARD THE PLAYER, THEN AWAY and he'll do a cool trick TRY A FIGURE 8 if your moving from left to right, hold the middle button and PULL DOWN, DOWN, UP and you'll skip to the side ---------------------------------------- double tap pass (L mouse button) for a lob pass ----------------------------------------- hold control and pass for lob pass. Some with right mouse button for a lob shot ---------------------------------------- hold "alt" while passing, and it will do a nice direct quick pass along the floor -------------------------------------- when running fast holding space bar, let go to do tricks with the middle button ------------------------------------------------- when running fast holding space bar keep tapping alt and he'll push the ball in front of him print this off and try. remember. mouse movement - not keyboard movement sorry to everyone.... i've been going on a bit tonight. Just flipping try it |

ok now that that lalalalala of mouse control in online games. and tell how you doing in game where everything goes fast and where oponent is not a stupid AI with predictable moves.
try then to click with your little mouse. and this guys who made this redicilous inovation called "mouse control" have no knowlage of thing called ergonomic. This "thing" will be in next FIFA version only if EA doesnt want to show that they made a stupid mistake. |

MAN. Listen to what i've actallu said. Follow my advice use mouse movement not wasd). And enjoy it. I would happily give you £100 if you don't like it after 10 games.
Can i play you online then.... wouldn't have a clue where to start.. do the mouse controls work the same online - or is this part of the problem? |

I am a very open minded person and will happily adapt to a new control method - if it's worth doing so, which in this case it's not! I would've been far happier if EA had used the time they wasted on this pointless mouse rubbish for things like bug killing and improving heading/ball physics, not to mention making the game far more polished! If there's one thing Fifa 09 is lacking, it's polish!

I use a game controller. I tried mouse control and it isn't good at all. Tricks are like impossible, quick passes from player to player or a play off screen are unnecessarily difficult. |
