The gameplay view of PES 09 attracts me.

Cristiano Ronaldo looks so cartoonish in Fifa 09.

Net in PES is much better that FIFA default (though FIFA's can be changed, and is better in some stadiums than others. Having said that PES's nets are still better than the changed ones ) . Crowd is also much better. Really like the sunset lighting in a couple of those screens too

I prefer FIFA faces and hair (except ronaldo, who looks better on PES) though, this is the only comparative screenshot I have:

actaully one thing i noticed about Fifa 09 models is that when u zoom out a bit ( watch carefully in replay , free cam view) the model becomes terribly low poly which in gameplay view looks very low detailed players.didnt see it in case of PES 09 .. and yah i also just love the PES 09 gameplay view , just look at the HDR lighting thats what i call Real world simulation !

Yeah, those are FIFA's crappy LOD default settings - I've changed mine and it doesn't happen anymore...

ya i also agree some players face is very realistic in FIFA 09 in closeups but when u zoom out the camera ( free cam , and move with mouse) look how players change drastically ..

What do you mean by 'robotic movement'? Could you explain? Do you mean the eight way movement? PES has that just as Fifa does; maybe you've a problem with the animations? They look fine to me, just my opinion, you're entitled to yours obviously. Do you think you'll become a PES fan from now on then? I suppose I can see where you're coming from; you've been waiting for Fifa to give you the gameplay you want for as long as I've been waiting for PES to give me the leagues/tournaments and general depth that I want. For me, Fifa 09 has provided a decent balance between the two.

Edit: @NutUnited, I tried the other config lines, it does look better now. Trouble is, I'm now getting tons of lag! Do you only have to change the lines in that config file, or all three in the cmn folder?

This is annoying, you can tell who everyone is from really far away now, but how do I lose this lag and stuttering? Should this be happening with my specs?

No. The default LOD settings make objects (hair is particularly noticeable) less detailed the further out you're zoomed from them. (A common bug that you'll notice is that a players hair/head will look different from further out than when you zoom in close). These LOD changes mean that the detail remains the same no matter how far out you're zoomed.

If you want less jagged edges you've got to go and enable AA and transparency AA through Nvidia CP or ATI CCC. With these enabled my players have no jagged edges at all

Are you getting lag with both sets of settings? MonkeyDragon's make my system lag, but Outsiders don't...

Nope, tons of lag with them as well. Here goes with MD's one.

Edit: Tried changing Render mode to 3. Lag: Pretty much gone and I can still recognise all the players. Cushty!

What kind of system you running at the moment Doctor? If you have that depth of view stuff turned on try the settings on without (which is the only way AA works anyway current from memory) as it can be pretty CPU and GFX heavy for some reason.

Thats great then, since my PC is only missing a very few small upgrades from being top line I've been trying achieve getting the best looks out the game. Might move onto doing my first ever patch (mod) next for gameplay and such if I can get the hang of modding Fifa 09 (as long as the tools I need are released at the moment, so hopefully no needing CM09 yet ).

Seriously guys, I am not defending FIFA because I think it needs a lot of improvements but you just have to stop posting threads about your PES love! I can't play PES for more than 10 mins with its floating ball/players! I also can't deny that it captures some realistic aspects of football but the gameplay of the new version (08-09) is really bad IMO!
