The thread is called "Comparative Screenshots between Fifa 09 and Pes 2009 PC version", not "12 yr-old fanboy flame war!!1!1!!!" I kind of expected it to be reasonable and constructive.

(Note: I use 'fanboy' in reference to those of both FIFA and PES)

I don't get why people are complaining about the size of the pitch in Fifa 09!

I prefer FIFA faces and hair (except ronaldo, who looks better on PES) though, this is the only comparative screenshot I have:

I can't believe you prefer FIFA 09s Raul face over PES. The PES face is so much more realistic.
Please Don't tell me that FIFA 09s face looks closer to this real life portrait of Raul

PES 2009 got it absolutely spot on!!! With the bend nose
proper skin colour. Just the hair style is slightly different but there are other photographs online that gives that particular look.

absolutely agree , look at the curly hair of PES 09 and fifa's straight hair though fifa one looks funky but Pes looks more real. And the good thing about PES 09 that u get players expression in every part of the game. like when a player want to make a cross or when he wants a ball or wahtever he does he there is always accurate facial expressions as well.... the in game facial expressions is just perfect!

I was talking about PES. Are a you a spam bot? If there anything to compare, say X, you just make a sentence like this: FIFA is very bad at X but PES is very good at X it look close to real life! With some variations in it!! Flat faces/ears are the new tech for simulating real life!

Why go on about Raul

He's butt ugly how ever they do it

--

Overall graphically pes09 has better stadia etc.

But when it comes down to it.

Lets just get the AI fixed first, whats are peoples prioritys

Online Play and AI.

After that we can moan about graphics

But the FIFA game needs critical patches for both online play and AI

Thats funny because I could have sworn you agreed with me when I posted that picture that some faces look realistic in FIFA 09

youre exactly right.

if you go to watch your team or watch footy on tele, you will see that players dont walk around with a flat expression on their face. as you can see in that PES screenshot, he looks like hes actually been running around on the pitch. FIFA player models hardly change until that player scores or goes into cinematics which is lazy; which is a word i've commonly used relating to this FIFA game and their attention to detail, or lack of it.

if there were more expressions on the FIFA player models faces when running, tackling and shooting, it'd be spot on. they would just have to work on some common issues like the goal nets, the linesman with prosthetic arms and the cardboard cutout crowd to add the dull atmosphere. many more thing too, they could mow the grass :P

The thing is with FIFA vs Pro Evo player faces is that it swings two ways.

Player likenesses aside, FIFA has more realistic facial structure (i.e. number of polygons used) and shading. They look quite a lot like actual faces.

Pro Evo generally has quite flat faces compared with FIFA - however some of their best likenesses have clearly had a lot more effort put into them. That likeness of Raul, for example, is probably better than any of FIFA's likenesses, but I would say most of FIFA's faces are nicer to look at than PES.

The entire Milan team on FIFA, for example, all look pretty good. Rooney is infinitely better on FIFA (despite the demonic eyes!).

I actually think FIFA's close-up graphics are a lot nicer than PES, but they seem to have really lalalaed up the zoomed out angles.

Too right! hahaha.

But yeah you're right, the graphics close up on FIFA are really nice, seeing things such as the sweat rolling on the forehead. Grass could be a bit shorter but thats being picky. The zoomed out angles are much nicer on PES, it looks so much more natural and you get a nice feel to it. In my opinion that is FIFA's biggest downfall on the PC platform, not having a good graphics engine all round and their problems with detail off the pitch in the stands and on the touchline.

PES wallops Fifa when it comes to faces, always has done. Hopefully, some good facepacks can be made for Fifa 09.

PES also thrashes Fifa 09 on heading physics and aerial battles. In Fifa 09, I'd say the heading physics are the worst thing about the game. If you're heading it forwards, it's all good, but try heading it backwards towards your own half! It just kind of bounces off your head and the same thing happens if you jump to try and head a ball that's coming down. It should go high in the air, prompting an aerial battle, but it just bounces off the head!

PES wins out big time for crowds, nets, flags etc. I have found some variables in the Fifa files that mention 'flares in the crowd' and such like, so I'll bring them to the modders' attention to see if they can make anything of them!

PES' cinematics are perfect. Instead of loading some stupid pre-rendered cutscene, it just zooms into the action, just like on TV. Fifa's cinematics are a huge atmosphere-breaker. Ditto for competition victory celebrations.

Fifa thrashes PES on the amount of things you can do with your player, such as shielding and being able to knock the ball on in any direction. Tricks are also far better in Fifa.

Fifa also thrashes PES on the amount of things you can do off pitch, the general depth of the game.

Other than that, they're fairly even in my opinion.

Agreed, what's with the rubbish pixellated nets in zoomed out views when they look so nice close up??

That is nonsense, absolutely nonsense I can't believe someone could say such thing!!!
Milan is one of the worst in FIFA 09 when it comes to faces, make no mistake about it! Kaka no way like kaka, Shevchenko absolutely lalalala face no where near like him. Spasmed Ronaldinho face. Wrong face of Ambrosini, made him like some WWE superstar.
Gattuso made like a devil. Inzaghi no way near...
Rooney aint better on fifa he looks like a devil too making him extremely uncute. PES has the proper decoration of him looks lot cuter and hair half bald like in real life!

Can you honestly tell me how is this face for example, make rooney look devilicious?

You can quite clearly see him look cuter than what he looks like in FIFA 09. Yes its true he looks like a devil at some moments but that's usually when he is very angry or when he celebrates a vital goal. That too is reflected in PES. However at normal times when he does really play he is a lot cuter than what he normally looks like in FIFA 09.
Does this photo of rooney look anything like a devil to you?

WOW that's a very good screenshot actually I wanted to show something like this its good that you brought it.
What I was also trying to show is, you see at the top of the stadium there's a large TV screen it has exactly the same picture of Rooney in the stadium. Now that's next generation!!! FIFA 09 on PC never had the game action on the video screen at the same time. Your screenshot shows a perfect, clear example of that!
