Default Am I the only one...

...who is disappointed by the complete absence of aerial battles in Fifa 09, just like in Fifa 06,07 and 08 before it? I know some people think I'm focusing on this aspect too much (hi there, AriseForLife), but my reason is that it is the one aspect of football that is just not represented at all in this game, that is supposed to be a football simulation. PES has them and that's supposed to be an 'arcade' game. The passing in Fifa 09 is nice and slick, the shooting is improved (although maybe a touch too easy sometimes), the game feels right because the pitch is the right size, but not one aerial battle in sight anywhere. And from what I've heard, they are in the NG version, of course!

From what I understand, modding them in won't be possible, unless playing with the ball's physics helps, so should they be in Fifa 2010?

Make no mistake, EA. You have done a reasonably good job with this game, but if you could've included aerial battles as well, it would've been even better! They are a fairly important part of football, every time a ball is punted into the box, for example.

Ah what the hell, I'll add a poll to this!

Edit: I just want someone from EA to come on here and explain why there were at least some aerial battles in Fifa games from almost ten years ago, but they have disappeared since Fifa 04 (I think it was).

If Ea Wants To Improve Then They Should Add Aerial Battles From Fifa 10

Good to see that most of you agree on this point. I mean, it just doesn't make sense that much earlier Fifa games had them, but the modern ones don't.

I wonder who that was? I wouldn't think anyone here would prefer a less realistic game....

I vote yes, definitely there should be more aerial battles it will make matches more competitive and will be less lottery.
Whoever voted no probably doesn't know what football is..

Maybe they read PC Gamer's review of Fifa 08, when they described it as being similar to table football...

Well, there you go EA. 18-1 in favour of aerial battles. Doesn't that tell you something???

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if this game had aerial battles, I would absolutely love it to bits and probably never go near PES ever again (well, unless they acquire the Fifa licence that is). Another year gone by and another opportunity lost to really put the game ahead of it's predecessor.

I've just been playing the game and I've noticed that after a goal kick, for example, the players don't really seem to jump much for the ball, neither yours or the AI's, no matter how you press the button. The way they just let it fall onto themselves has got me thinking (or it's probably hoping) that they are holding better aerial battle physics back for the full game...

Well, we can hope!!

They are there, but I see them rarely. I can barely get my players to challenge for headers with the mouse at all, so maybe that's the reason for my lack of them. I've seen one proper instance when 2 players went up to head the ball at the same time, but that's it.

So they do exist, but a) i can't get my guys to challenge very often, and b) i think the AI is holding back a lot on the low difficulty. So like you say, I think in a way they've accidentally nerfed heading for the demo by limiting the difficulty. I hope so anyway

They don't try much heading from goal kicks in higher difficulty levels either (well, unless the real higher difficulty levels have been locked off by EA and can't be accessed by things like locale files).

I find it almost impossible to direct headers with the mouse! How are you finding it? For me, it's one of the major flaws with the mouse control system.

Edit: I did once see a header go up in the air from a goal kick in Fifa 09. Just the once, mind!! I was like 'wow! A header has actually behaved realistically from a goal-kick! Stop the presses!'

I think the higher difficulties are locked, because I've tried upping both keeper and cpu difficulty to the highest (which i fail at in 08, and it's just as easy as the normal difficulty.

Yeah the heading with the mouse is my biggest problem with it, but maybe it will just take some getting used to. It's like the combination of moving with the mouse, while trying to choose a direction to head in, move around an opponent, get the right power, and release it to head at the correct moment so that is doesn't just bounce limply off my player... it's just blowing my mind right now

The more I think about it, the more I reckon EA are holding something back for the full game. It just doesn't make any sense whatsoever for a dev to create something that so closely resembles football in every sense, yet for headers to just bounce off players. Here's hoping!!

Edit: I wonder who voted no. Come on, be brave! We won't hurt you.....much!!!!

You'd think so, but I've had people have a go at me because I've pointed out the one area of football that is completely missing from Fifa 09 (going by the demo, at least).

I think over 1 billion people will vote yes for this POLL
Everyone wants aerial battles in the game, even the one who voted negative, he simply voted negative because he is trying to surpress the poll!

What do you think, Blazing? Is it possible EA have held back aerial battles for the full game? The rest of the game feels so natural, so for the ball to just bounce off a player like that, when coming down from high up, just doesn't fit!

Edit: If the full game is released like this however, then the heading system when any sort of height is involved, is completely broken.

Aint got a clue lol
I doubt how much EA know what aerial battles are Paul Hossacks should start learning what football is!
I think Paul Hossacks must start making NHL 09 on the PC and PS2!!! He seems to be better informed in that particular sport then football

I didn't vote, but I honestly don't care about aerial battles. There are far more important things that can be added to this game than aerial battles which don't have much importance during an actual match.

But according to NG corner, they're implemented in their game, so EA definitely know what they are.

Edit: Paul Hossack said that the demo is closely representative of the final game, so we can expect this broken heading system to be in there.
