Not true.

1-3% including office PC's with no graphics card, maybe, but for people who play games on their PC (the market the game is aimed at), more than 1-3% will have capable PC's. Going by your judgement, CoD4 etc wouldn't have been best-sellers on PC because only 1-3% of could play it...

I built a Core 2 Duo, DX10 capable computer, including graphics card, motherboard and CPU for £222 a while ago. It'd probably cost £150 or less now.

Like I say... if you include PC's bought by parents/companies for offices etc, then of course not, but if you're talking about "PC gamers", then you're talking nonsense. Far more than 1-3% of people who play PC games often will be able to handle FIFA 09.

The fact that those games are a different genre makes no difference whatsoever, and I think you invented a phrase when you said "gameplay architecture" - two reasons that it seems like you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I find this whole situation frustrating. I'm also embarrassed for EA, their representatives, and their backwards views on the subject.

If EA come out with another bit of PR about their sports games not selling well on PC, then they know why - because they won't give us the 360/PS3 version.

If EA provided direct ports of the 360 versions of NHL 09, NBA Live 09 and FIFA 09, they would sell a huge amount of PC games. If they continue to provide PS2 ports and "in-betweens" that don't look as good and don't play as good as their 360/PS3 counterparts, then they'll continue not selling many copies. Simple.

But please!... Don't try to fool us!

I call what you are doing with fifa 09 pc, bad programming...
Sorry to be so honest...

(I'm waiting for a reply)
Well said. GTA IV represents a whole, huge living city, full of people up to no good/going about their own business/stopping the people who are up to no good, or just running away! A whole city! I'd bet that's got a bit more going on under the hood than a football game has.

I'd say at least 15% if not more.
Good post. So come on, EA, tell us what specs this super-uber duper computer that could run NG Fifa 09 would have?

The PC version of FIFA 09 is different to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions because of the CPU processing power required for the architecture of the game.

The majority of gamer's PC's do not have enough CPU processing power for this architecture, so FIFA09 on PC has been built to have the best possible graphics and gameplay engine while still being accessible to as many fans of the game as possible. If the architecture was identical to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, FIFA09 on PC would only be accessible to 1-3% of the PC systems on the market.

Having said that, FIFA09 on PC delivers a very deep gameplay engine, along with leading-edge visuals.

Phenom

So, one single question:
Why does PES 2009 have next gen gameplay but require LESS specs in hardware stuff? Why? Please answer only that one, please...

I have been a fan of Fifa for years, and now all I have is a big fat disappointment!

everytime 15 or 16 years old kids say ''if they don't improve the game next year we won't buy it''. imo this is the reason for these servants of money to don't make a good FIFA game so far. And every new year these kids join the forums.

I agree, FIFA 09 looks and plays very nice, finally EA have made an effort on PC version. Sure, their are still some annoying faults, but all in all i`m quite happy i bought this game. BTW! cranking the difficulty upto "Legendary" certainly improves AI gameplay.

Valve - Survey Summary Data

Good survey thats done every month. A good % of people have decent rigs that would not struggle with so called ng coded fifa for pc if they had bothered to make it so.

Ahh this rubbish again.

Fun examples, from the past:

Oblivion (2007):

CPU: AI system dealing with 1500+ NPCs.
GPU: Many aspects of the game ended up being scaled down for the XBox 360 release.

Football Manager 2008 (2007)

CPU: XBox version limited to 10 leagues and 3 countries. PC unlimited.

General Benchmarks (2006)

PS3 processor runs slower than an early Apple Mac G5 from 2003!

hxxp://www.geekpatrol.ca/2006/11/playstation-3-performance/

Other stuff:

Mass Effect, better on the PC.
Gears of War, better on the PC.
Doom 3, better on the PC.
Bioshock, better on the PC.
The Orange Box, better on the PC.
Call of Juarez, better on PC.

Beware only 1-3% of current PCs have the CPU power required to read this post.

I couldn't care less if the Xbox/PS3 versions are different, I'm enjoying the PC version and I want to show (with my wallet) to EA that the PC market is strong. Fifa09 this year is awesome on the PC, and I'm happily buying it this week.

EA Sports seem too conservative.. like someone said earlier, the average joe with his 1999 PC would rather download a copy on internet instead of buy the game. EA should think about the potential new costumers they can have by taking some risks (for example: me, yo!)

The NG/console versions show us what EA is capable of, and that's what we (pc gamers) are asking them: To push HARDER the pc version for the next years to come.

My 2c.

I get your point, but you are also rewarding poor workmanship.

I do agree that it could be better, but I like to think simple: Is it fun? Is it worth buying?

If EA take some risk next year, and manage to make a version much closer/equal to NG I'm pretty sure they would be surprised. In my country for example we had a legion of PES/WE fans for years, now people are starting to comment: "Did you see Fifa this year? Wow!".

Older Fifa fans have all reasons to be ****ed off by this slow development by EA, but boycotting the game is the worst thing the community can do about it, imo. I'm keeping an eye on Fifa since '07, and this year after playing the demo I thought: "Hey, there's something here, this is fun!".

Let's play the game and keep making noise, they shall hear us.

That's all we can ask for. To push the PC version as far as it can go, which this year's version doesn't do.

As you said, boycotting would be a bad idea, it would lead to the end of the PC version full stop!

When i first played the demo of Fifa 09, i thought: "nice, way better than 08 version, i'll gonna buy it for sure", but then i played ps3 version and ... ***??? its a completely different game, its better by faaaaaaaar, its Fifa 2012... why cant u bring that to pc? 4% of PCs are good enough? 4% of the PCs are used for gaming!!!
that makes me f***ing angry -.-
however, gonna buy PC-version, hoping for next year...

Welcome to EA's world of PC. In EA's world of PC, the PC can't do anything, let alone manage an unbelievably complex and powerful game like NG Fifa 09. All the PC can manage is things like:

The Total War series
Massively complex Flight sims
Bioshock
Oblivion
CoD
Armed Assault ARMA

and many, many more. None of them are as complex as a football game, are they (?) PES seems to manage it on PC, so stop feeding us this rubbish, EA.

The PC version is good, but it doesn't push the PC. At all. It stays firmly inside the same comfort zone its been in for years now, ever since Fifa 2003, the last really good Fifa.

Did you know your PC is not has fast as a PS3, which isn't as fast as an early Apple Mac G5 from 2003?

Well I am sure everyone here would be pleased if EA would promise a 360 port. Somehow I feel the 'I told you so' will be on the other foot...
