Default Manchester United F.C. || It's Not Over Yet

MANCHESTER UNITED F.C. || IT'S NOT OVER YET

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Team Name: Manchester United Football Club (F.C.)
Club Nickname: The Red Devils
Founded: 1878 as Newton Health L&YR F.C
Home Stadium: Old Trafford
Manager: Sir Alex Ferguson
Owner: Malcolm Glazer
Co-Chairmen: Joel/Avram Glazer
League: English Premier League

Manchester Utd are probably England's most famous club, they were formed in 1878 as Newton Heath and elected to Division 1 in 1892. The pre-war years saw the league championship at Old Trafford twice whilst the FA Cup was won in 1909 but since the second World War, they have been far more successful under two different managers. The first was Sir Matt Busby who arrived in 1945 and won 5 league championships and 2 FA Cups. Tragedy befell Utd in 1958 when their young team known as the 'Busby Babes' was decimated in an air crash in Munich while returning from a European Cup tie in Belgrade. Busby himself was almost klled in the disaster, and his team, which had looked like dominating English football for years to come, was no more.

However, 10 years later, he led a new team including greats like Bobby Charlton and George Best became the first ever English team to lift the European Cup, beating Benfica 4-1 in the final. Flamboyant managers such as Tommy Docherty and Ron Atkinson followed but none could bring the championship back to Old Trafford.Scot Alex Ferguson was appointed in 1986 and to begin with, it looked as though he would go the same way as his predecessors. However, the FA Cup win of 1990 heralded the start of good times which were continued with the European Cup Winners Cup success a year later. In 1992, Utd grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory as their late slip-up handed Leeds Utd the title but the advent of the Premier League finally saw them triumph 26 years after their previous title win.

The following season saw United better this by winning the double (beating Chelsea 4-0 in the FA Cup final). They were the first club to achieve the 'double double' in 1996 as Ferguson continued to bring trophies galore back to Old Trafford. As if that were not enough, the 98/99 season saw them achieve the unthinkable - the treble of league, FA Cup and European Cup.That earned Ferguson a knighthood and he followed it up with two more back-to-back league titles. When he announced his plan to retire at the end of the 2002/03 season, it looked like an illustrious era in English football was coming to a close, and the uncertainty about the future contributed to United's worst-ever finish in the Barclay's Premiership - third. However, by then, Ferguson had changed his mind and was on hand to mastermind their return to the top a year later.

The rise of big-spending Chelsea and the controversial arrival of new owner Malcolm Glazer brought some dark times for fans in the next few years, but back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008 (plus another Champions League triumph) put United back on top. In 2009 they completed another three-in-a-row title success to take them to 18 league championships, level with rivals Liverpool.

Name: Old Trafford
Nickname: The Theatre Of Dreams
Capacity: 76,212 seats
Location: Sir Matt Busby Way
Opened: 19 February 1910
Owner: Manchester United F.C.

Old Trafford football stadium (given the nickname The Theatre of Dreams by Bobby Charlton) is the home of Manchester United F.C., one of the most famous football clubs in the world. Located in the borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, it has been United's home since 1910. The stadium was bombed in 1941, forcing the club to temporarily share Manchester City's home ground, Maine Road, until the rebuilding of Old Trafford was completed in 1949.

Old Trafford has one of the largest ground capacity of any English football stadium, holding just over 76,000 spectators. Currently, the only larger football ground in the United Kingdom is the Wembley Stadium. Old Trafford is also one of the largest club ground in Britain and is, of course, all-seater, which alhigher league British club grounds have had to be since the Taylor Report in the early 1990s. It frequently was used to host F.A. Cup semi-final matches (as long as Manchester United are not involved, of course), and is also occasionally used to host England international fixtures whilst Wembley is under reconstruction. It also hosted the Champions League final in 2003.

Sir Alex Ferguson Slams former United star Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo who in his latest interview said, "La Liga is better than the Premier League." has caused a lot of controversy going on about the 'World Player of the Year'.

The 67 year-old Sir Alex Ferguson has replied to Cristiano Ronaldo's 'false' comments and surely is not happy with the former United star.

Sir Alex Ferguson said, "Cristiano Ronaldo might be in La Liga, but he must not forget who brought him where he is now. He might be the 'Player of the Year' & 'European Player of the Year', but he has not rights to comment on any leagues especially the Premier League. English Premier League is as strong as La Liga, possibly more stronger & tougher. This is the league that earned him many trophies, brought him where he is today & much more."

"If you're saying La Liga is better than Premier League then you are insulting all the teams in the Premiership. I'm not happy about it & I'm sure other managers and players are not either."

Cristiano Ronaldo who was signed by Real Madrid from Manchester United for €80 million this summer, scored a grand total of 118 goals in his 292 appearances for Manchester United & is certainly one of the most successful players in the world today.

Certainly Sir Alex Ferguson is right about him being where he is today is because of the Premier League & Manchester United.

"I respect him as a former United star & a football player, but he should think before he says something against us 'Premier League'." says the United manager.

Your thoughts: Is Sir Alex Ferguson right about Ronaldo being what he is today because of Manchester United & Premier League? Should Ronaldo think twice before saying 'nonsense'?

You've missed out midfielder's in your reserves, and why is Ronaldo on the OP banner?

I'm still to update the squad list including the forwards & midfielders & the OP banner will be changed, I had this from before when I wanted to start MM, but didn't have time because of work.

Anyways, what do you think about my first update?

It's over now

Great start so far anyway mate, although the first post seems to be stretched out at the side for some reason.

Good update as well. I was annoyed when I read his comments about the PL, it was good enough for him for like five years or however long it was and then suddenly when he leaves its rubbish because he says so. I think its the best league in the world

Yup I updated it including the first thread.

It almost seems like Ronaldo likes any team that he plays for in any league. I'm sure when Madrid sell him to MLS he'll say, "MLS is the best league in the world." Thank god SAF got rid of that arrogant snob.

Top post is much better now

MLS the best league I hope he does say that because that would be the biggest lie ever.

Not particularly bothered he left tbh, 80 mil plus Owen, Valencia and Obertan instead

Cantona was always a better no.7 anyway

Nice start mate. Will you be buying anyone or just keeping that squad?

I'm sure he would say it if he ever goes and I hope he does because he does not deserve to play in the big leagues of Europe.

Valencia & Obertan could possibly be effective for United, but not too sure about Owen.

Sir Alex Ferguson lays interest in the Athletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero after signing Michael Owen.

There have been a lot of transfer gossips going about who is coming and who is leaving Manchester United.

"My latest and probably the most important target right now for Manchester United is Sergio Aguero." says Sir Alex Ferguson

The 21 year-old has made 184 appearances and has scored 73 goals & has 22 assists for Athletico Madrid.

"He is a great young talent and could fill up Tevez's spot at Manchester. He's in a great goal scoring form and that's what Manchester United needs at the moment."

"He would be a great support for Rooney while Antonio Valencia one of our key signings this summer will feed the ball to both." says the 67 year-old

Serigo Aguero who first arrived at Athletico Madrid from Independente on May 2006 for undisclosed fee of €23 million, breaking the club's previous transfer record. In the 2007-2008 season Aguero finished third in scoring La Liga behind Dany Guiza & Luis Fabiano with 20 goals and was runner up in the Trofeo Alfredo di Stefano for the best player in La Liga.

In the 2008-2009 season Aguero became a regular goal scorer for Athletico Madrid, forming a great partnership with Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan who was also a former Inndependiete striker.

"I am willing to pay up to €40 million for the Argentine striker. He's young, he's a goal scorer & his style is perfect for Manchester United." says Sir Alex Ferguson

The 21 year-old also had his say on the 67 year-old Manchester United manger Sir Alex Ferguson.

Aguero said, "I would love to play for Manchester United especially when they are in a league as big as the English Premier League & of course being managed by a top class manager Sir Alex Ferguson and play with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand & more."

Manchester United are still linked with players like Frank Ribery, Luis Fabiano, Zlatan Ibrahimavic, Samuel Eto'o & of course the Argentine Sergio Aguero, but does Manchester United need strikers after signing Michael Owen and still have the likes of Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov & Fredericho Macheda?
