Key Players.

Bougherra is one of Rangers' main center halfs, If Rangers are going to try and win the league this season, he will be need to be on the top of his game to fill in the boots of Carlos Cuellar, who left this summer for Aston Villa in the Premiership.

Another new summer signing, Pedro Mendes is a gifted player who can have a major role in Rangers midfield to bring back the Scottish Premier League title to Ibrox this year. He is expected to strike up a powerful partnership with Barry Ferguson/Kevin Thomson in the middle of the park.

Kris Boyd has been one of Rangers' start players of the past couple of years since his move from Kilmarnock. He may not be the most athletic player on the park but you always know that when he's on the field there is bound to be goals.

Season Review.

Rangers were without a league title in three years, there season didn't get off to the best start either as they faced there Old Firm rivals, Celtic, on the first day of the season at Park Head and lost 2-1. So it wasn't the start that they would have wanted but they were playing Dundee United at Ibrox the next week and were confident, But again the Light Blue didn't play to high standards that was expected of them and managed to hold on to a 0-0 draw. The morale of the players were low, but they managed to get up to the top 4 of the league with a 2-0 away win at Aberdeen and a 'magical display at Ibrox against Hearts gave them a 4-2 win. Sadley there run ended as a spirited Kilmarnock who were sitting 2nd in the table behind Celtic were hard to brake down and slipt away with a 1-0 win against the Gers. Next up was newly premoted, Hamilton Accies, they put up a good fight but Boyd broke free from the defence and scored a 83rd minuted winner. October was a good month for Rangers as they went the hole month without lossing, but they did drop points against a athletic St. Mirren side. Rangers' good run of result continued into the month of November where they were without a loss in 5 games going into Noember where they beat Glasgow rivals Celtic 2-1 at Ibrox. Still on a great run Rangers went into December without lossing in 10 games now, won both of there December fixtures, slotting 2 past a helpless Kilmarnock side and easing past Hamilton 2-1 at the Accies home ground. January saw the start of 2009, Rangers were showing great form and looked unbeatable, they started off the month with two 0-0 draws with St. Mirren and Inverness CT, although they were not the results the Glasgow side were hoping for they were still head of Celtic in the league tabe. Next up, Falkirk were comming to Ibrox, all supporters were expecting and easy win but Falkirk ended up winning 2-1 after some 'sloppy' defending and a bit of luck. If things couldn't get any worse Rangers started February off badley aswell with a 0-0 draw with Motherwell at Ibrox and then lossing 3-1 in Motherwell. Rangers finally ended there bad run of form that had not seen them gather 3 points from a game since December 2008, with a 2-1 win at Ibrox Against Hibs and then a 4-2 thrashing of Falkirk away from home. Rangers were starting to show the form from late 2008 again as they went the full of March unbeating before dropping point to Hamilton and Inverness CT , both at Ibrox. Then in there third home game in a row they destroyed Hearts 5-3 that seen them go top of the table again by goal difference. May, the last month of the season, with only three games left there was nothing to split Rangers and Celtic apart, both teams had been on a rollercoaster ride this season, but Rangers started the month of with a fantastic win at Aberdeen, but then follwed up with a 0-0 draw at Ibrox with Dundee United that put Rangers and Celtic back on level points. So the season would come down to one fixture, Celtic - Rangers, Rangers were ahead on goal difference but Celtic were the team on form, but Rangers showed there class at Park Head and came away with a 2-0 victory that seen them win the SPL in a dramatic final day.
