But when shirts were washed, the slowly turned white, and the official colours were changed accordingly, so that the club did not waste funds on new kits. In 1954, the away kit design was introduced of the black with thin white stripes as an alternative to the home kit of white with very thin black stripes. Home:: ![]() Away:: ![]() ►CRESTS Before 1913, no crest was displayed on the Corinthians shirt. But when it became an offical part of the Liga Paulista, a local league, it became able to play official matches in the Sao Paulo Championship, a local championship within the state. The club then made their debut of the first credt, with the letters C and P which stands for Corinthians Paulista. The itial crest after the 1940's was created by Hermogenese Barbuy, who was a brother of a player at the time. The crest changed before 1919 where it presented a Sao Paolo state flag and the clubs name. It changed a final time in 1940 when painter and previous member of the squad Francisco Rebolo Gonzalez created a defnitive crest. It contained an anchor and two oars which is a reference to the acquatic sports within the club. It has since been revised a few times, but the idea remained similar. Mano Menezes was born on June 11st in 1962 in Santacruz Sul located in Brazil and is the coach of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. He coaches Gremio Football Porto from 2005 through to 2007, which is a significantly long period for a coach in Brazilian football. He led Gremio to promotion in 2005 and continued good form by taking then to a third place finish in the 2006 Serie A. In 2007, he also led Gremio to a final of the Copa Libedtadoes. Following the 2007 season, he took over as Corinthians coach and started the season with a three nil victory over Guarani. Menezes led Corinthians to the 2008 Capeonato Brasileiro Serie B titles with twenty five wins, seven draws and only threee losses. ►HISTORY
The vast history of this fine club begins on September 1st 1910, when a group of workers in the nerighbourhood of Bom decided to create a club. The idea was to create a football team which anyone could display their talents in. this is due to sports being ‘elitist” in Brazil at the time and was mostly played by the British in the country. The known founders of the club are Joaquim Ambrosio, Antonio Pereira, Cesar Nunes, Rafael Perrone and Joao Da Silva. The first idea for the name of the club reflected the national spirit of Brazil, as names such as Carlos Gomes FC and FC Santon Dumont were some of the ideas mentioned. The popular Brazilian names were pushed aside for the English amateur club Corinthian whom won all six games they played in Sao Paolo in Brazil on exhibition matches. Sport Club Corinthians Paulista made their debut match of the 10th September 1910 playing against respected club, Uniao Da Lapa, they were defeated 1-0 but marked the beginning of a successful age. On the 14th September, just four days later, Luis Fabi scored Corinthians first ever goal in which they won 2-0 against Estrela. Corinthians joined the Liga Paulista after gaining a significant number of fans and successful results. The year of 1922 which is the Centennial of Brazilian Independence marks the start of the Corinthians in the Sao Paolo State Championship. Football was virtually exclusively played in Brazil capital Rio De Janerio and Sao Paolo, and the two state champions were hailed the best two clubs of Brazil. This year marked the first of three State Championships consecutively, which happened again in 1928-1930 and 1937-1939. After six years without a championship to their names, Corinthians came back to win the 1937 and 1939 championships. The club won a championship in 1941, but were unsuccessful again until 1951. Carbone was a hitman for Corinthians during this time, scoring 30 goals in the Sao Paolo championship averaging 3.43 goals per game, and leading Corinthians to championships of 1952 and 1954. Corinthians won its first Serie A title beating rivals Sao Paulo in the final at their own stadium. In 1991, they beat Flamengo and claimed the Copa Do Brasil. Just four years later, the club clained the Copa Do Brasil against Gremio at home. Also in the 90's the club won the state championship in 1995, 97 and 99 and won the national championship in 98 and again in 99.In 2000, the Paulista won the first edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, wherer they beat Vasco Da Gama in the final where they finished ahead of Real Madrid. The club then went on to win various titles in the same decade. The club's situation in early 2004 was among the most difficult in its history. Bad administration, lack of money and terrible campaigns both in the 2003 Brazilian Championship and in the 2004 São Paulo State Championship caused its millions of supporters to worry. Fortunately, some young players and a new manager Tite helped the team to improve from their terrible start. At the end of the championship, Corinthians finished in 5th place and gained entry to the Copa Sudamericana (a minor continental championship). This situation was one of the factors which enabled Corinthians' president, Alberto Dualib, to convince the club's advisors to sign a controversial deal with an international fund of investors called Media Sports Investment. The deal granted the company a large degree of control over the club for 10 years in exchange for large financial investments in return. This has brought many quality players to the team, such as Carlos Tévez, Roger, Javier Mascherano and Carlos Alberto. Despite the MSI investiments, Corinthians had a slow start in the 2005 state championship, but managed to improve as it progressed, eventually managing to finish second. Their start to the Brazilian championship during 2005 was difficult, too, but after Daniel Passarella's dismissal (due to an unexpected 5-1 loss to Corinthians' rivals, São Paulo), the club finished the championship well, and were eventually crowned Brazilian Champions for the fourth time, after some controversial annulment of eleven games due to a betting scandal. The relationship between Corinthians' managers and the MSI president, Kia Joorabchian is not good, and after being eliminated in the Copa Libertadores de América, the club experienced a crisis which was responsible for the bad performances for the rest of 2006. Is still unknown whether the partnership will continue for the coming years and whether the club will get more funds to sign new players, although Kia Joorabchian has left the partnership. On December 2, 2007, following a 1-1 draw away to Grêmio, Corinthians were relegated to the second division. Source:Wikipedia Last edited by Steve; 06-07-2009 at 09:47 AM.. |
