![]() ![]() Amit Bhatia Shuns Mancini Links. Manager to be unveiled soon says QPR vice chairman. Queens Park Rangers vice chairman, Amit Bhatia has openly stated that recent rumours linking former Inter Milan manager, Roberto Mancini with the club have been blown out of proportion and a meeting between Mancini and QPR owner, Flavio Briatore was nothing more than pure coincidence. Speaking from the clubs headquarters Bhatia defused recent news reports by unveiling the club had already found a suitable replacement for the outgoing Luigi Di Canio, who would be unveiled as soon as Flavio Briatore returned from holidays in Monaco. The statement by Bhatia ended a week of speculation that had many believing Mancini was indeed headed for a role in the 2nd division of English football. And whilst QPR fans will be left furious over the blatant exploitation of a chance encounter, the footballing world can rest a little easier knowing the talents of Mancini will not be wasted in the Championship. Bhatia stated the chance meeting between Mancini and Briatore came as both men were holidaying at the same resort in Monaco, and whilst the two did discuss football, there was never any discussion of a management position at the West London club. So who is the new manager of QPR? The squad has been under the control of midfielder Gareth Ainsworth for their preseason camp and even with recent revelations, media camped outside the clubs training ground have failed in attempts to get any clues to who the mystery man is. As always a number of names have been thrown into the hat, as it seems the QPR manager sage will have a few more days to play out, before Flavio Briatore returns and all this speculation is put to rest. ![]() ![]() Breaking News QPR Manager Announcement.... Flavio Briatore, Amit Bhatia and Bernie Ecclestone Flavio Briatore: Thank you for making the time to join us here on what we believe to be a defying moment for the club. In a few minutes we will unveil our new manager, to you who have gathered here today and the many watching across the world. But before we bring this man on stage, I would like to say a few words. The recent media reports regarding the club and Roberto Mancini have brought to our attention the media’s misguided knowledge of the situation we as a club are in and how we intend to make our way back into the upper echelon of English and European football. While QPR can boast the financial backing that many Premier League clubs dream of, the revenue generated by this club is obviously not at a point where we can afford to bring in people like Mancini and also the many players the media have announced we will sign to accelerate our transition into the Premier League. Taking on this project Bernie Ecclestone, Lakshmi Mittal and myself invested the amount of around £20 million to pay off the many debts this club had found itself in and whilst we predict an annual turn over of £10 to £15 million this is far from the amount we would need, to bring in the names that have been plastered through all the papers recently. Yes as individuals we have enough to buy a star studded line-up to rival the like of Chelsea Real Madrid and Man Utd, but to spend beyond our means would be poor business practice on our part and would quickly build up the club’s debt once again. You just have to look at Man Utd who have amassed a massive debt by their business practices, to see how easy it is to let success consume ones finances and this is a road QPR will not travel down. If we are to get back into the Premier League we will do it on the back of hard work, passion and having players that wants to play for our club. Saying this we believe we have found the man who will guide this club into the future, a man who’s connection with the club guarantees success and who’s experience whilst in his former role with Tottenham Hotspur will also guarantee the club’s up and coming football stars. Without further a due I present to you Queens Park Rangers’ new manager, Mr Clive Allen. ![]() Clive Allen: Thank you Flavio and everyone for the warm welcome. Today is the beginning of a new era in my career and I thank the men sitting beside me for giving me the opportunity to give something back to a club that has given me so much. As a boy I remember being introduced to this great club by my father Les, who as you all know played for and also managed the club in the 60’s. To follow in his footsteps both as a player and now at this level, is a dream come true for me and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. I still remember my first game for QPR and the pride that I felt at the time in playing for a team that I grew up idolising, now to be in this position of guiding the club as a manager is a truly humbling moment and I can only hope the passion I have for this club, will result in good performances on the field. The close connection between the Allen family and QPR is one that goes beyond my father and myself and I can tell you, that both my brother and cousin have joked around about kicking my butt if I don’t make them proud. On a serious note though, I am very happy to be here and I can only guarantee to give my all in taking this club back into the Premier League and eventually onto the European playing stage. Bernie Ecclestone: Before we take any questions, I would just like to add that we have made the commitment in Clive and we believe in his ability both as a manager for our first squad as well as redeveloping the strength in our youth and academy players. He will be given the freedom to chose his team of coaches at his own will and has signed a 7 year contract with the club. We are all confident this is the man to take us back where we believe we belong and his strong family ties with the club is something we could not wish for. I am excited about the future of this club under his guidance and believe the fans of the club will surely support a man that in his own words describes the club as a second home. We will now allow for questions for the next 15 minutes, as you can all expect we have a lot to do before the start of the pre-season and Clive will be heading off straight after this to get head an open training session which you are all invited to. Reporter 1: Clive, Clive congratulations on the new role. Tottenham your former employer is a big club and you seemed to thrive in your position there, was it an easy decision to turn your back on a club that has also contributed so much to your life? Clive Allen: Thank you, Tottenham is indeed a club that I owe a lot to, first as a player and then in my more recent role as development coach. To say I have turned my back on them is a bit of an overreaction because I left on good terms and with the blessing of Daniel Levy. I did in all honesty enjoy my time with the club and yes it was a tough decision to leave but when given an opportunity like this one you have to grasp it with both hands. Reporter 2: Do you really believe that you can take this club back into the Premier League and even beyond that into Europe? Clive Allen: I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t, but to start thinking of promotion and Europe now is something that could cost us these exact things. Fair enough, promotion is something that we could accomplish this season but to let that dominate our way of thinking could be detrimental to our success. I don’t want my players going out each game with their minds focused on promotion, this is not the way you win football matches. To be successful we need to have our heads in each game we play and that is something I intend to instil in all my players. Reporter 3: Clive, you said you left Tottenham on good grounds, will you look to take advantage of that and perhaps sign a few players from your former club? Clive Allen: I think that is something I would have to discuss with Daniel Levy, I don’t want to speculate on anything but of course there would be a few players I would look at bringing over. But before you plaster rumours all over the papers, I would only be looking at players from the reserve and youth squad as possible targets and a move from Tottenham to this club would be considered a step down for many of them so I expect as with a lot of transfers it will be arduous task. Reporter 4: My question is directed at the board, what made you pick Mr Allen and what are your expectations from him in the upcoming season? Amit Bhatia: I’ll answer that, we believe Clive is the man for the job. He has a strong bond with this club and we believe that bond will make him a very successful manager for us. He has shown at Tottenham that he is a capable manager and along with his keen eye for talent made him a prime candidate for the role. For us, he was the only man for the job and we did not approach any one else for the position. As for the second part of your question, we have discussed at length, what our short and long term goals are and we have every belief that he will be the one who gets this club in a position of both respect and notoriety both in England and overseas. Reporter 5: Clive, what are your first impressions of the team, will you be making any drastic changes or will we see the same QPR we did last season? Clive Allen: From what I’ve seen so far the squad is very strong, we have a very balanced team and any changes that we make will be aesthetic. The QPR that you saw last season was very attack minded and that is the style that Luigi Di Canio brought to the club, the QPR that I hope you will see this season will have a more balanced feel and we will be looking to control the run of play a lot more than we did last season. Flavio Briatore: Ok last question people, so make it a good one. Reporter 6: Mr Allen, your family has a very strong bond with Queens Park Rangers, do you think this will affect the way you approach your new role and will you be getting any advice from your father Les? Clive Allen: I think the bond between my family and this club will only result in good things. Whether I like it or not Bradley, Martin and Paul I am sure will be chipping in with their 2 cents of advice and as for my father, he is a man that I have looked up to all my life, so as always he will be the first person I turn to when I need assistance. He has already given me a piece of advice and that was to do a better job at this club than he did, hopefully I’ll be able to do just that. Flavio Briatore: Ok that’s it people, as we said before we will be holding an open training session at Loftus Rd so please be sure to make your way down and see the boys in action. On behalf of my colleagues and myself, thank you for joining us today and we hope you will follow what will be a new era for Queens Park Rangers. An era where a new manager makes his mark in the footballing world. Clive Allen: Thank you for your time today, I hope to see you down at the stadium. This is brilliant mate! only off putting part is the title.. looks very noob like.. but great stuff. I would have loved seeing Mancini getting the job.. make sure you bring in some English talent.. Joe Mattock, Jack Hobbs, Kyle Naughton, Joe Hart, Michael Mancienne. All players that would make your squad.. fantastic.

![]() Levy Happy to Lend Allen a HandArchibald-Henville and Livermore set to join QPR. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has given a helping hand to new QPR manager Clive Allen, allowing his former reserves manager to open talks with Tottenham reserve players Troy Archibald-Henville and Jake Livermore. The two will now almost certainly join their former manager at QPR and could play a huge part in assisting Allen to get the West London club back into the Premiership. Both Henville and Livermore have been labelled as up and comers, to keep an eye on and the signings will guarantee QPR a bright future. Archibald-Henville has been a key in Tottenham’s reserve squad with impressive performances earning him the captain’s armband. At the age of 19 he looks the goods and should push for a first team spot at QPR. He is on the verge of breaking into England under 21 squad, to join names like Chelsea’s Michael Mancienne and Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs, with manager Stuart Pearce closely following the 6 foot defender’s progress over last season. On the other hand Jake Livermore may find it hard to break into the first team at QPR, but a chance to stay with mentor, Allen is something that this young lad may just benefit from. At the age of 18, Livermore is already showing the skills to become a very talented midfielder and Allen’s ability to develop this kind of talent should see the youngster be a force in seasons to come. So Allen has made his first move on the transfer market and whilst it was one that many expected, the open door Daniel Levy extended to his former employee has left a number of people stunned. The possibility of further deals between the two clubs now seems likely and this will only assist QPR reach its goal of promotion possibly as soon as the end of this season. |
