Stadium History:
Estadio Santiago Bernabéu is the home stadium of Spanish Football club Real Madrid C.F. The stadium's former name was Estadio Chamartín, and it kept that name from it's opening in 1947, until it was officially changed to Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in 1955. After 60 years in existence, the Stadium was awarded the UEFA rating of 5 stars, making it officially an elite Football stadium.

Bernabéu Stadium has recieved many rennovations in it's life. It had a staggering capacity of 120,000 in 1953. The Capcity had to be severly cut back due to FIFA regulations that Ticket holders could not be standing during UEFA Competition. Today it stands proud with a superb capacity of 80,354.

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu is one of the world's most prestiegious stadiums, and has had the privilege of hosting of the European Cup Final 3 times, as well as the 1964 European Nation's cup, and the 1982 World Cup.

Stadium rennovations to the Bernabéu have lead to a rivalry with fellow La Liga giants Barcelona FC. This was primarily due to the apparent competition bewteen the clubs to see who could hold more spectators. Real Madrid lost this battle when it was ruled they would have to turn their standing space into seats.
