Derby Announce New Sponsor
Derby County have announced a new 1 year sponsorship deal with company Vista Parks. Vista Parks is a company boasting action packed amusement parks that the whole family can enjoy. The deal is believed to bring in around £244,000 per match. It has also been reported that if Derby County finish in the top half of the league they will receive an extra £770,500, with extra bonuses for winning the Championship or a domestic cup. Nigel Clough is said to be happy with this deal as it more than covers the clubs current wage bill. Clough has confirmed reports that he has received a budget from the Derby County board of £5.3 million, but has refused to highlight any possible acquisitions, staying “We’ll see what happens.” ![]() Speculation is rife over whether Clough will use this budget to bring some much needed “big names” into the squad or whether, like his father he will invest in some lesser known talent. Clough Attempts Triple Swoop A source from within Derby County Football Club has revealed that manager Nigel Clough is set to spend most of his £5.3million budget on three players. The first is said to be Jack Wilshire from Arsenal who Clough is beleived to be looking to loan in. He is said to be looking to bolster his offensive options and sees 17 year old Wilshire as the perfect fit. ![]() Transfer target Jack Wilshire The second player is Kieron Westwood. The 23 year old irish shot stopper currently plays for Coventry City, but with Roy Carroll low on confidence and Stephen Bywater being transfer listed, young Westwood looks more and more likely to make the switch in a deal reportedly worth around £1.5 million. ![]() Young Goalkeeper Keiron Westwood The third player is again currently Championship based. He is 21 year old Andrew Surman of Southampton, with Southampton currently in financial troubles and Coventry reportedly offering £3 million this offer may to too good to turn down for the Saints. ![]() £3 million rated Andrew Surman As of yet Derby County manager has been unavailable for comment.

Derby's Luck Decides Scrappy Event ![]() Porter celebrates what turns out to be the winning goal. Today's match between Derby County and Barnsley was decided by a large chunk of fortune in Derby's favour. The match was scrappy throughout with most of the time spent in the middle of the park. In the 3rd minute Kris Commons thought he would try his luck from 25 yards, however the ball ended up both high and wide. Porter then forced a good save out of Barnsley goalkeeper Paul Rachubka on 10 minutes when he swivelled on the edge of the area, before curling a shot towards the right hand corner of the goal, but Rachubka managed to get a hand onto the ball, turning it away to a Barnsley defender. Porter then threatened again 3 minutes later when he got one-on-one with Rachubka thanks to a beautifully weighted pass by Nacer Barazite. Porter then took his time before hitting the bottom of the right post, the Barnsley defence then scrambled the ball clear. Bret Ormerod could only roll the ball feebly into the arms of Roy Carroll from the edge of the area in Barnsley's only shot on target of the match. Hulse then forced another great save from Rachubka when he headed Robbie Savage's deep cross towards the near post, but Rachubka was across quicklym pushing the effort out for a corner. Barazite then forced another save from the preceeding corner, before another corner from which he should have scored. The ball fell to Barazite's head in the area 7 yards out for him to only head the ball into the goalkeepers arms.
In the 38th minute the ball was kicked long by James McEveley, Rob Hulse headed it on, where it fell into the path of Chris Porter, again one-on-one with the goalkeeper. This time he opted to chip the ball over Rachubka. Rachubka read the chip however and parried the ball into the air only for it to fall onto the head of Porter who headed into an empty net as Rachubka had dived to reach the chip. Derby were then careful to control the game, restricting Blackpool to long range shooting until the half time interval. The second half contained no chances until Commons shot from 30 yards on 81 minutes, however the shot was straight down the keeper's throat which Rachubka easily saved. Ormerod hit the side netting from a poor angle on 84 minutes with what turned out to be the final chance of the game for Barnsley. The match finished 0-1, with Shaun Barker of Barnsley getting the Man of the Match award for keeping Kris Commons quiet for most of the afternoon. Nigel Clough said this after the game."I'm pleased with all of the lads today. We've had to fight hard for the win as we expected, but we have done it. There were one or two issues that we need to sort out like lapses of concentration from some of the lads, but overall I'm happy with the win.". When asked about possible transfer targets he said, "Many tabloids have been linking us with a number of names, including Jack Wilshire and Andrew Surman. I can catagorically deny that Derby County Football Club are in negotiations with these players.". When asked who he is interested in signing Clough stated, "I am not going to try to unsettle players with talk of possible transfers. You'll just have to wait and see what happens". In other news Derby County have announced the depatures of Ruben Zadkovich to Preston for £750k and Stephen Bywater to Sheffield Wednesday for £500k. Mitchell Hanson has also departed, but only on a season's loan to Real Sociadad. |
