If anything, I need a left back, but in that case I could simply stick Zhirkov back at left back. So nahh I'm all set with my defense

STUTTGART GAINING INTEREST IN BRAZILIAN MIDFIELDER

[Galatasaray midfielder, Lincoln, could be returning to the Bundesliga after a year in Turkey]

-----------------------

STUTTGART, Germany - Only a year removed from Germany, Brazilian midfieder, Lincoln, could be returning to the Bundesliga. Lincoln, who began his European career with Kaiserslauten in 2001, before departing for Schalke in 2004. After three seasons in Gelsenkirchen, he moved east to join Turkish champions Galatasaray.

Recent reports have linked Stuttgart with the 29 year old Brazilian, who reportedly have a growing interest in Lincoln. While playing with Schalke, he firmly established himself as one of the Bundesliga's greatest playmakers, just as he did in Turkey, as Galatasaray went onto win the league. Lincoln's ability to use both feet, his pinpoint free kicks, and technical ability made him heavily celebrated by fans from around Germany, as well as Brazil, where he played for Atletico Mineiro for four years.

In Schalke's 2004/05 DFB-Pokal triumph, Lincoln was one of the main leaders of the charge, and eventually went on to be named the Player of the Year in the Bundesliga. In three seasons at the Veltins Arena, Lincoln scored twenty goals in a total of eighty-three matches. In 2006, prior to his departure, Kicker Magazin, named Lincoln as one of the Bundesliga's top five players

When asked about a possible return to Germany, Lincoln had this to say: "I'd love to return to Germany, I had the best years of my career there, but I don't really have a choice. It's all up to Galatasaray, if they think an offer is high enough, I think they'd let me leave. I really have no say in the situation."

If Markus Babbel and Stuttgart to indeed decide to persue the German playmaking midfielder, the deal is believed to be worth approximately €2-3.5 million. With the departure of
Yıldıray Baştürk to CSKA Moscow in exchange for Yuri Zhirkov and Vagner Love, Stuttgart are lacking depth at the attacking midfielder position. Lincoln would be an experienced, cheap alternative to a younger, more expensive player who's performance will be unknown. However, Lincoln has already proved that he can have success in the Bundesliga, so don't be surprised if Lincoln does end up in a Stuttgart shirt towards the end of the week.

-THE DEFENDING CHAMPS-
Last Season Finish: 1st (76 pts)
FC BAYERN MUNICH

Bayern Munich were crowned Germany's champions for the record, twenty-first time last year, winning the Bundesliga in a land slide, with second place Werder Bremen ten points behind. The main story behind Bayern this summer has been the retirement of their legendary German goalkeeper, Oliver Kahn. Twenty-four year old Michael Rensing will be Kahn's replacement, and surely the goalie position will be a question mark for Munich this season.
Other than Kahn, Munich have only lost Jan Schlaudraff (to Hannover 96), and Marcell Jansen (to HSV). Meanwhile, they brought in AC Milan full-back, Massimo Oddo on a loan deal and signing Tim Borowski from runners-up Werder Bremen. Led by Franck Ribery, Lukas Podolski, Lucio, and others, Bayern Munich certainly have the talent and ability to repeat as the champions of Germany.

PREDICTED FINISH: 1st.

TRANSFERS IN: Hans-Jorg Butt, Massimo Oddo, Tim Borowski.
TRANSFERS OUT: Jan Schlaudraff, Marcell Jansen, Julio dos Santos.

KEY PLAYERS

MICHAEL RENSING (GK)
With the retirement of legendary 'keeper Oliver Kahn, Michael Rensing will take over inbetween the pipes for Die Roten. Rensing received some first team playing time towards the end of last season, to get him prepared for the year in which Kahn would not be ahead of him. Rensing surely learned a lot from Kahn, his mentor, and will look to follow in his footsteps as one of the world's best goalkeepers.

FRANCK RIBERY (MF)
Ribery, the Bundesliga's defending player of the year will certainly be Bayern Munich's offensive catalyst this season. Ribery's sensational pace, dribbling, passing, and finishing ability, easily makes him one of the planet's best all around players. Playing across from Bastian Schweinsteiger and behind Lukas Podolski, Miroslav Klose, Luca Toni, and company, Bayern Munich have the most offensive firepower in Germany, maybe even competing with the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, and AC Milan.

MANAGER

JURGEN KLINSMANN
Following Ottmar Hitzfield's resignation in July, the former Bayern Munich striker has taken over the job as gaffer at the Allianz Arena. In 2006, Klinsmann stepped down from his post as the head coach of the German national team, and current coach Joachim Low took over. Klinsmann had great success with the national team, most notably in the World Cup, and he will look to have the same kind of success with Bayern this season.

HOME GROUND

-OVERTHROWING THE CHAMPIONS?-
Last Season Finish: 2nd (66 pts)
SV WERDER BREMEN

After finishing in second last season, Bremen manager Thomas Schaaf is hoping this is the year that his side can overthrow Bayern Munich at the top. With their star player, Diego Ribas returning to the Weserstadion in spite of links with Italian side, Juventus. Werder Bremen have also bolstered their attack, adding ex-Chelsea forward, Claudio Pizarro on a loan stint. However, despite the addition of Pizarro, Bremen lost Ivan Klanic. This will require young Swedish striker Markus Rosenberg to step up and mature as a player, as he will most certainly get a lot of playing in this season.
Like last season, Bremen have a solid defense and midfield, anchored in the back by their giant center halves, Per Mertesakcer, and Naldo. Goalkeeper, Tim Wiese, is one of the best in the country, and will defintely be a key player this season for Bremen in their quest to take home the Bundesliga once again. However, Bayern will be too strong for Bremen to handle, and Bremen will sit below Munich once again.

Predicted Finish: 2nd.

TRANSFERS IN: Sebastian Prodl, Said Husejinovic, Claudio Pizarro, Niklas Anderson.
TRANSFERS OUT: Pierre Wome, Patrick Owomoyela, Ivan Klasnic, Tim Borowski, Kevin Schindler, Amaury Bischoff, John Mosquera.

KEY PLAYERS

TORSTEN FRINGS (MF)
Torsten Frings is easily one of the most consistent players in the Bundesliga. It seems as if Frings never has a bad game, and plays solidly match after match. Frings will be looking to add another Bundesliga title to his resume this season. His defending skills, as well as his strength, ability in the air, and amazing shot power, will make him a giant contributer to the Bremen squad this season.

DIEGO RIBAS (MF)
Diego is easily one of the Bundesliga's most exciting and entertaining players. His creativity, passing ability, and shooting ability strikes fear into opposing defenses. This summer, Diego was heavily linked with Juventus, but surprisingly elected to stay with Werder Bremen for at least another year, as he searches for a title.

MANAGER

THOMAS SCHAAF
After playing for Werder Bremen for fifteen years as a player, Schaaf decided to come back to the club, this time as a coach. Since taking over in 1999, he has won the DFB-Pokal, the Premiere Ligapokal, and the Bundesliga. Since 2004, Bremen has qualified for Europe's top club competition, the UEFA Champions League. This season, Schaaf will be hoping to lead his side to more success.

-IS THIS THE YEAR?-
Last Season Finish: 3rd (64 pts)
SCHALKE 04

With more incoming talent, this could finally be the year that Schalke breakthrough to win the Bundesliga. The main addition to his Schalke squad is Peruvian forward Jefferson Farfan, from Dutch side PSV. However, Schalke also purchased Orlando Engelaar, from another Eredivisie side, FC Twente. With this newly addeed firepower, Schalke certainly have a chance to automatically qualify for a group spot in next year's Champions League, but their defense will be in question.
Brazilian center back, Marcelo Bordon, will be the key player in the back this season for Schalke, as he will be the man that first year manager Fred Rutten will depend on to mark some of the Bundesliga's top strikers. Along with their mix of experience, Schalke possess a great amount of youth, including their top prospect, Levan Kenia. With players such as Rafinha, Kevin Kuranyi, Bordon, and Farfan, Schalke certainly have the talent to go all the way, but with a manager in his first year with the team Schalke may not have all the kinks worked out.

PREDICTED FINISH: 3rd.

TRANSFERS IN: Jefferson Farfan, Carlos Zambrano, Orlando Engelaar.
TRANSFERS OUT: Mathias Abel, Soren Larsen, Zlatan Bajramovic, Mimoun Azaouagh.

KEY PLAYERS

MARCELO BORDON (DF)
The Brazilian center half will be a big player for Schalke this year, as he will be looking to be Schalke's anchor in the back like he has been in previous years. Although Bordon, "flies under the radar," he's a solid player with a great awareness and tackling skills. Bordon will most certainly have the responsibility to mark the opposing team's best forwards, and Bordon will most likely be able to live up to that challenge.

KEVIN KURANYI (ST)
Kuranyi has been Schalke's offensive leader since coming over from Stuttgart in 2005. He may not be the quickest player on the pitch, but his strength, arial ability, and clinical finishing allow him score goals when they matter. With Jefferson Farfan joining the club, Schalke only add to their offensive firepower. An offensive threat such as Farfan should take some pressure off of Kuranyi, so expect Kuranyi to have a bit more space to roam around this season.

MANAGER

FRED RUTTEN
This will be Rutten's first year at the healm of Schalke 04, after leaving FC Twente. Earlier in the year, it was believed that Rutten would take up an offer at PSV Eindhoven, but he ultimately decided to reject the deal, move to Germany, and take charge of Schalke. Rutten may be the right man for the job, as he is known as a "player's manager," who communicates well with his players. We'll see if he can lead Schalke back to the Champions League.

HOME GROUND

-----------------------------------------------------------

-A REBULDING SEASON-
Last Season Finish: 4th (54 pts)
HAMBURGER SV

This should be, without a doubt, a rebuilding year for Hamburg. Last year's fourth place finishers may have lost their best players, as we saw superstar midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart depart the Nordbank Arena to join Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, Van Der Vaart is not the only big name departure. Mohamaed Zidan and Vincent Kompany have also left Hamburg. Not only have Hamburg lost some of their most talented players, they also lost last season's manager, as Huub Stevens has left to take the reigns of PSV Eindhoven. Former Tottenham Hotspur gaffer, Martin Jol, has taken control of Hamburg as the new manager.
With the majority of their attack gone, Ivica Olic and new signing, Mladen Petric, will have to carry the load this year, and hope to bring Hamburg to success. However, with a much weaked team, it is hard to see Hamburg stay in the top four again, dropping down below sixth is even a real possibilty for HSV.

Predicted Finish: 7th.

Transfers In:
Alex Silva, Marcell Jansen, Mladen Petric, Jonathan Pitroipa, Thiago Neves, Dennis Aogo.
Transfers Out: Rafael Van Der Vaart, Vincent Kompany, Mohamed Zidan, Juan Pablo Sorin, Mario Fillinger, Miso Brecko, Preston Zimmerman, Sidney Sam, Rouwen Hennings, Miroslav Stepanek.

KEY PLAYERS

FRANK ROST (GK)
Rost will have to be one of the leaders for Hamburg this year, especially in the defensive third. Rost is a solid goalkeeper who has the ability to completely thwart attempts from opposing strikers to score a goal. However, Rost is aging, as he is already 35 years old, which may cause HSV to go out and buy a new, younger goalkeeper. In spite of his age, Rost will have to step up and use his experience to be a leader of this young defense.

IVICA OLIC (ST)
With Zidan and Van Der Vaart leaving Hamburg, Olic will have to be the offensive leader for HSV this campaign. Olic netted fourteen goals last season, and he will hope he can grab a few more this season, as he will be the main attacking force of Hamburg.

MANAGER

MARTIN JOL
The Dutch manager will take charge of Hamburger SV for the first time. Jol has had success in his career with clubs such as Tottenham and Dutch side Roda JC. He'll be looking to bring the previous success to Hamburg. However, he is in a difficult situation, as he has lost three of the club's most talented players. If fans do not see success early on, they could be screaming for Jol's head...

-THE SLEEPERS-
Last Season Finish: 5th (54 pts)
VFL WOLFSBURG

Following a fairly surprising fifth place finish last season, Wolfsburg made many changes bringing in three players who could prove crucial this year. Christian Zaccardo, Zvjezdan Misimovic, and Andrea Barzagli could prove to be fantastic signings for Felix Magath. Although Misimovic may not possess blazing speed, he is known for his creativity and is widely regarded as one of the most creative midfielders in the Bundesliga. A main reason for Wolfsburg success last season was their attack, led by Brazilian, Grafite, and Bosnian Edin Dzeko. Magath will be looking to improve upon Wolfsburg's fifth place finish, but ultimately, his new purchases may not be enough to lead Die Wolfe over the likes of Bayern, Stuttgart, and others. However, their squad is, on paper, better than that of HSV, which is why we predict them to finish in fifth again.

PREDICTED FINISH: 5th.

Transfers In: Cristian Zaccardo, Rodrigo Alvim, Zvjezdan Misimovic, Caiuby, Daniel Adlung, Mahir Saglik, Vlad Munteanu, Andrea Barzagli, Marwin Hitz, Bernd Korzynietz, Alexander Esswein.
Transfers Out: Facundo Quiroga, Peter Van Der Heyden, Daniel Baier, Alexander Laas, Cedric Makiadi, Isaac Boakye, Sergiu Radu, Valdet Rama, Emre Ozturk, Marcelinho, Mame Niang, Danijel Ljuboja, Uwe Morhle.

KEY PLAYERS

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/josue.png
JOSUE (MF)
The captain of the Wolfsburg side will carry a great load of responsibility this season, as he will be the anchor in the midfield. The Brazilian international is a great defender and good box-to-box midfielder that has an ever-running engine that keeps him playing consistently game after game.

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/grafite.png
GRAFITE (ST)
Grafite will be leading Wolfsburg's offensive charge this season. With blistering pace and clinical finishing ability, Grafite may be the strongest offensive player on this team. With Dzeko alongside him, and new signing
Zvjezdan Misimovic behind him, there should be less pressure on the Brazilian forward. Expect Grafite to have a big-time season in 2008/09.

MANAGER

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/magath.png
FELIX MAGATH
This will be Magath's second year in charge of the Lower-Saxon club. In his first year at the healm, the German gaffer led Wolfsburg to a surprising fifth place finish and a spot in this season's UEFA Cup. Magath made multiple signings that could be crucial this season, and could possibly mean the difference in a spot in the UEFA Cup, Champions League, or Intertoto Cup.

-THE UNDERDOGS-
Last Season Finish: 6th (52 pts)

After a disappointing sixth place finish following their Bundesliga triumph in 2007, manager Markus Babbel and his squad are dying to taste victory once again. Led on offense by superstar striker Mario Gomez, and led in the back line by Serdar Tasci, Stuttgart certainly have a solid squad, talented enough to return to the Champions League next season. Stuttgart fans will be expecting a better performance from their team this year, and they have a right to with the amount of money their club has spent during this off-season.
Babbel has purchased two players that could really cause a big difference on the pitch. Both players coming from Russian side CSKA Moscow. Russian international Yuri Zhirkov will be leading the charge on the left side of the midfield for Die Roten, while Vagner Love will be paired up top alongside Gomez. This could make for a very lethal attack, along with a solid defense and midfield, allowing Stuttgart to return to a top four finish.

PREDICTED FINISH: 4th.

Transfers In: Jens Lehmann, Khalid Boulahrouz, Martin Lanig, Jan Simak, Georges Mandjeck, Yuri Zhirkov, Vagner Love.
Transfers Out: Raphael Schafer, Andreas Beck, Fernando Meira, Antonio Da Silva, Alexander Farnerud, Peter Perchtold, Sergiu Radu, Julian Schuster, Danijel Ljbuja,
Yıldıray Baştürk.

KEY PLAYERS

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/hitlzsperger.png
THOMAlalalalaZLSPERGER (MF)
The Stuttgart captain will most defenitely be a key contributor to Stuttgart's success or demise this season. The defensive midfielder and German international will have his hands full in the center of the midfield for Markus Babbel the entire year. Most likely he will be played in the holding midfield position, where he be a box-to-box player who could also take part in the offensive push with his wicked longshots.

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/gomez.png
MARIO GOMEZ (ST)
The German striker is a nightmare for opposing defender. His lethal combination of pace, strength, creativity, and finishing ability always give him a stellar goal tally come the end of the season. And this season it shouldn't be any different, especially with Vagner Love taking some pressure off of the German international. Expect Gomez to have a spectacular season, with a great amount of goals, as well as a solid number of assists. He could prove to be one of the most valuable players in the Bundesliga.

MANAGER

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/babbel-2.png
MARKUS BABBEL
Following the sacking of Armin Veh in 2007, Babbel, then an assistant coach took over, as he looked to bring the club back to success after a title-winning season. At only 36 years of age, Babbel is the Bundesliga's youngest manager, but undoubtedly one of the best. He has an unprecidented knowledge of the game, and shares that wealth of knowledge with his players and colleagues.

-BREAKING INTO THE TOP-
Last Season Finish: 7th (51 pts)
BAYERN 04 LEVERKUSEN

After great success in this decade, Bayer Leverkusen have fell off the radar a little bit, as last year they failed to even qualify for European competition. Under first year head coach, Bruno Labbadia, Leverkusen will be hunting for a return to the top of the table, in an attempt to regain their title as one of Europe's top football clubs. In an attempt to strengthen their attack, Labbadia brought in one of the 2.Bundesliga's leading scorers, Patrick Helmes from 1.lalalaoln. Labbadia also purchased young Brazilian midfielder Renato Augusto from Rio-based club Flamengo. Labbadia also tried to bolster his defense as well, signing Brazilian center half Henrique from Barcelona and Michal Kadlec from Czech side Sparta Prague.

PREDICTED FINISH: 6th.

TRANSFERS IN: Henrique, Renato Augusto, Patrick Helmes, Constant Djapaka, Michal Kadlec, Anderson.
TRANSFERS OUT: Paul Freier, Dmitri Bulykin, Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Braken, Anderson, Michael Papadopulous.

KEY PLAYERS

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/adler.png
RENE ADLER (GK)
The 24 year old goalkeeper has really begun to flourish in the past few seasons with Bayer Leverkusen, and this should not be much different. With Jens Lehmann retiring, Adler has taken the reigns as the new German number one and is beginning to gain starts between the pipes for the national team. He is known as one of the planet's best young keepers. Leverkusen are surely happy to have a keeper of his standards, but there is a possibility that he could leave for a bigger club this winter.

TRANQUILLO BARNETTA (MF)
The young Swiss midfielder could be a crucial player for Bayer Leverkusen this season. His pace down the left wing causes problems for many defenses, as well as his ability to cut in and score goals. The 24 year old has a fantastic upside and will most likely be one of Bruno Labbadia's key performers this season.

MANAGER

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/labbadia.png
BRUNO LABBADIA
Leverkusen's first year manager will surely have pressure on him this season, as he looks to lead Bayer Leverkusen back to the European promise land. However, he will be dealing with very restless fans who are hungry to see success return to the BayArena. Will the pressure get to Labbadia? Or will he be able to deal with it and lead Leverkusen back to success?

-FORM IS ESSENTIAL-
Last Season Finish: 8th (49 pts)
HANNOVER 96

For Hannover this year, their form will be crucial to their success. If Hannover are consistent throughout the season, a solid finish could be plausible, however, if they are inconsistent and streaky, they could find themselves at the bottom of the table, maybe even fighting for survival in the Bundesliga. In an attempt to strengthen their attack, Hannover purchased two renowned forwards, Jan Schlaudraff from Bayern Munich, and Mikael Forssell from Birmingham City of the English Premier League.
Hannover also possess a decent defensive backfield, including vice-captain Steve Cherundolo and Mario Eggiman who provide solid defensive coverage for HSV. With solid depth around the roster, Hannover certainly have the ability to improve on their eigth place finish last season, but, it is doubtful that will happen, as form is indeed the key to their success or fall this year, and with teams that are much better on paper, it may difficult for them to be consistent.

PREDICTED FINISH: 10th.

TRANSFERS IN: Mario Eggiman, Jan Schlaudraff, Mikael Forssell, Florian Fromlowitz, Leon Balogun.
TRANSFERS OUT: Dariusz Zuraw, Vahid Hashemian, Benjamin Lauth, Frank Juric, Fabian Montabell, Moritz Marheinke, Soren Halfar.

KEY PLAYERS

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/35010951.png
STEVE CHERUNDOLO (DF)
The American right back and Hannover vice-captain will have an immense impact on his club this season. Cherundolo will have to be solid in the back, as well a threat pushing up the right side of the pitch, taking part in the attack, as he does with his national team. Since 1999 Cherundolo has been a key player of Hannover's performance, and this season should not be much different.

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/107434.png
MIKAEL FORSSELL (ST)
The newest signing for Hannover will certainly bolster their attacking force. The Finnish forward may not be the quickest striker you'll see, but he is very agile and has the ability to weave through opposing defenses and cap off a run with a clinical finilalalala will be interesting to see how he performs in the Bundesliga this season if can stay healthy and on the pitch.

MANAGER

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/3601056.png
DIETER HECKING
Hecking as been at healm of Hannover since he took over in 2006. Hecking helped Hannover recover from an absolutely dismal start in his first season as manager, to finish comfortably in 11th, as well as progressing to the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal. Last season, he led Hannover to an eight place finish, there highest since finishing tenth in 2004/05.

-INCREASING CONFIDENCE-
Last Season Finish: 9th (46 pts)
EINTRACHT FRANKFURT

After multiple relegations, Frankfurt were able to make their way back into the Bundesliga in the 2004/05 season, when they qualified for the UEFA Cup because of their DFB-Pokal triumph. Despite finishing in fourteenth that season, Frankfurt's confidence has clearly been growing ever since. Frankfurt surprised many Bundesliga followers last season, by finishing their season in an unexpected ninth place. The players and coaches may have even surprised themselves with a ninth place finish.
This year, Frankfurt will be led once again up top by their captain, Ioannis Amanatidis. However, recent rumours have linked the Greek striker with a return to VfB Stuttgart this summer. If he doesn't leave, Amanitidis and young, Czech starlet Martin Fenin will surely be a lethal strike force for Frankfurt. Eintracht certainly have the talent and the ability to be a good, solid team in the Bundesliga, but the talent is still underdeveloped, and will not lead Frankfurt enough to improve their last season finish.

PREDICTED FINISH: 11th.

TRANSFERS IN: Zlatan Bajramovic, Nikos Liberopolous, Umit Korkmaz, Markus Steinhofer, Habib Bellaid, Alexander Kruk.
TRANSFERS OUT: Evangelos Mantzios, Marcel Heller, Markus Weissenberger, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Mounir Chaftar.

KEY PLAYERS

MARCO RUSS (DF)
The big center half will hold the responsibility as Frankfurt's best defender. Russ has good strength and is very skillful in the air, allowing him to cause an offensive threat in the penalty area as well. The 23 year old German will have a great amount of responsibility this season, playing in the ever so difficult center back position, going against some of the world's best striker. It will be interesting to see how he performs this season. If he does well, expect Frankfurt to be in the middle of the pack, however, if he plays poor, don't be surprised if the Eagles are fighting relegation.

IOANNIS AMANATIDIS (ST)
The Frankfurt captain will be another key performer for Eintracht this season. That is if he stays with the club. During the summer Amanatidis has been heavily linked with a move to VfB Stuttgart, but, he has had no comment on the situation. If he does stay at the Commerzbank Arena, he will be the Frankfurt captain once again and will be their main attacking option. His blazing pace can cause problems for most defenses, and his great finishing allows him to finish off great efforts.

MANAGER

FRIEDHELM FUNKEL
This will be Funkel's fifth year in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt after taking over in 2004. The 55 year old had some success with Frankfurt, helping them avoid relegation, and surprisingly helping the team qualify for the UEFA Cup by being the runners-up for the DFB-Pokal in 2006.

-AIMING HIGHER-
Last Season Finish: 10th (44 pts)
HERTHA BERLIN

Berlin, who will be taking part in UEFA Cup Qualifying via UEFA Fair Play Ranking, will have a tough road ahead of them. Berlin have lost Brazilian midfielder Mineiro, after he was picked up by English powerhouse, Chelsea FC on a free transfer. Young striker Andre Lima, has also been sent back to Brazil on a loan deal to Sao Paulo. However, Lucien Favre has bolstered his team by bringing in Ukranian international, Andriy Voronin on a loan stint from Liverpool, as well as purchasing 23 year old Brazilian Cicero.
Hertha Berlin do have a fairly strong squad this season, however, their striking trio of Voronin, Marko Pantelic, and Brazilian Raffael coming off the bench may not be enough to lead Berlin up the table. Led by captain, Arne Friedrich in the back, Berlin have a fairly strong defense, but will it be able to stand up to the likes of Luca Toni, Mario Gomez, etc.? That is a big question that fans need to answer when predicted Hertha Berlin's finishing table position. Berlin have a shaky squad, but their attack may be able to bail out their thin defense a bit, and they will indeed improve on their tenth place finish from last seaosn.

PREDICTED FINISH: 9th.

TRANSFERS IN: Kaka, Cicero, Andriy Voronin, Marc Stein, Rodnei, Maximilian Nicu, Amine Chermiti.
TRANSFERS OUT: Rudolf Skacel, Mineiro, Srdan Lakic, Solomon Okoronkwo, Bilal Cubukco, Amadeus Wallschlager, Andre Lima, Pascal Bieler, Chinedu Ede, Dennis Cagara.

KEY PLAYERS

ARNE FRIEDRICH (DF)
Friedrich is easily one of the Bundesliga's best defenders. He is very reliable, is consistant game in, game out, and can cause threats on the attack by using his great speed. Friedrich will be the anchor in the defense for Hertha Berlin, and being the captain, will be the leader on the pitch for the team. Expect Friedrich to put up some solid numbers once again this season and be a bright spot for Hertha Berlin.

ANDRIY VORONIN (ST)
Berlin boss, Lucien Favre, may have made a great move here, bringing Voronin in on loan. Voronin is a mobile and versatile player that can play as a striker, or as a winger if necessary. After some disappointment with Liverpool, Voronin returns to the Bundesliga for a season. Previously, the Ukranian international has had a lot of success with Bayer Leverkusen, Mainz 05, and other Bundesliga sides. With Marko Pantelic in talks with other clubs, Voronin could be the main striker for Berlin.

MANAGER

LUCIEN FAVRE
This will be Favre's first season at the healm of Berlin, so the pressure will be on the 51 year old Swiss manager. Favre managed FC Zurich since 2003, and led to qualifying rounds in the UEFA Cup, but never did succeed in entering the tournament's final rounds. Favre has made some smart signings this season, however, it may not be enough.

-AVOIDING THE DROP-
Last Season Finish: 11th (43 pts)
KARLSRUHER SC

Following last season's eleventh place conclusion, Karlsruher will be looking for an improvement, but it will sure be hard to come by. It is visibly apparent that Karlsruher lack a solid squad, which will surely prevent them from improving on their last season finish, maybe even avoid relegation. In an attempt to stay up this season, manager Edmund Becker brought in Brazilian midfielder Antonio Da Silva from VfB Stuttgart. However, KSC did lose their best defender in Mario Eggiman, to Hannover 96, leaving a hole at the back. Karlsruher certainly have a very lackluster squad, a squad which will not be enough to keep them in the top tier.

PREDICTED FINISH:Relegation.

TRANSFERS IN: Tim Sebastian, Antonio Da Silva.
TRANSFERS OUT: Mario Eggiman, Christopher Reinhard, Florian lalalala, Tamas Hanjal.

KEY PLAYERS

ANTONIO DA SILVA (MF)
The 29 year old Brazilian will be the main man in the midfielder for Karlsruher this season. However, his deadly free kicks and precise passing may still not be enough to keep KSC in the top division of German football this season. Expect a vast majority of the Karlsruher ball movement to go through this playmaking midfielder.

ALEXANDER IASHVILI (ST)
Iashvili will be Karlsruher's main offensive catalyst this season, using his great speed, ball control, and driblbling to outsmart defenders and beat them with ease. But, with no other real offensive threat playing alongside him, opposing defenses have the option to double-team Iashvili and shut him down completely, something which could certainly pose problems to KSC.

MANAGER

EDMUND BECKER
Becker has been the gaffer of Karlsruher SC since 2005, and is generally a receptive, quiet manager who is open to views from his players and coaches. In the 2006/07 season, Becker was at the healm of the club when Karlsruher won 2.Bundesliga. This season Becker will be looking to stay out of the second division this season.

-JUST GETTING BY-
Last Season Finish: 12th (41 pts)
VFL BOCHUM

Bochum have many voids in their squad, however, they appear to be only minor absences, that should not hurt the side too greatly. With Jan Lastuvka returning to Shakhtar Donetsk, Bochum were originally lacking a solid goalkeeper, however, Daniel Marcio Fernandes has recently been purchased from PAOK to fill that gap. Bochum manager Marcel Koller, also looked to strengthen his offense this season, by bringing in Iranian striker Vahid Hashemian from Hannover 96, Sinan from Bursaspor, and Paul Freier from Bayer Leverkusen. All of these attacking threats will be playing alongside Slovakian striker, Stanislav Sestak, one of the Bundesliga's fastest players.
In spite of a fairly strong group of offensive players, Bochum may not possess the defense necessary to put up a fight agasinst some of the country's top clubs. Bochum may have two mediocre center halves in Marcel Maltritz and Anthar Yahia, however, after that, Bochum are thin in the defense, a problem which will certainly have to be addressed. With their current squad, a ninth place certainly would not be out of reach, but, eleventh or so seems more likely.

PREDICTED FINISH: 12th.

TRANSFERS IN: Daniel Marcio Fernandes, Christian Fuchs, Paul Freier, Vahid Hashemian, Sinan.
TRANSFERS OUT: Martin Meichelbeck, Pavel Dresk, Tommy Bechmann, Benjamin Auer, Marc Sand, Oleksiy Byelick, Yan Lastuvka, Thomas Rathgeber.

KEY PLAYERS

DANIEL MARCIO FERNANDES (GK)
With the departure of Yan Lastuvka, Daniel Fernandes was brought in as a replacement from Greek club PAOK. The Canadian-born goalkeeper made over ninety appearences with PAOK before being purchased by VfL Bochum for a fee of approximately €1.2 million. Fernandes, who now plays for Portugal, has very promising talent and could be a key performer for Bochum this season.

STANISLAV SESTAK (ST)
Sestak is certainly an offensive threat, and one of the main threats for Bochum. The Slovakian has amazing, blistering pace, which is virtually impossible to defend. Not only does Sestak possess sensational speed, but he is also one of Bochum's best finishers. Expect Sestak to have a fantastic season for Bochum, an grab at least ten goals this year.

MANAGER

MARCEL KOLLER
Since 2005, Koller has been the manager of Bochum, and has had the task to lead the club out of the 2.Bundesliga, and keep them in the league they belong. During low times, Bochum fans were calling for Koller's firing in 2006/07 after a slow start, but he quickly brought them back up. He would also lead Bochum to an eigth place finish, their third highest ever.

-REGAINING SUCCESS-
Last Season Finish: 13th (40 pts)
BORRUSIA DORTMUND

Borussia Dortmund surprised us all with a very uncharacteristic finish last season, ending the season in thirteenth, however, they were able to qualify for the UEFA Cup, via the DFB-Pokal. New manager, Jurgen Klopp, has strengthened in squad in an attempt to regain previous success and return to be one of Germany's better teams. Klopp was able to lure in many players that should be difference makers, such as Mohamed Zidan and teenagers Neven Subotic and Nuri Sahin. With these newcomers, as well as other names, Dortmund should easily be able to improve on least season's disappointing finish.

PREDICTED FINISH: 8th.

TRANSFERS IN: Lee Young-Pyo, Neven Subotic, Mohamed Zidan, Nuri Sahin, Patrick Owomoyela, Felipe Santana, Tamas Hanjal, Lukas Kruse.
TRANSFERS OUT: Martin Amedick, Markus Brzenska, Christian Worns, Mladen Petric, Philip Degen, Alexander Bade, Steve Pienaar.

KEY PLAYERS

JAKUB BLASZCZYKOWSKI (RW)
Better known as 'Kuba,' Jakub Blaszczykowski, may be Borussia Dortmund's key midfielder this season. The 22 year old is known for his amazing speed, and he may be the Bundesliga's speediest player. His wicked pace allows him to beat nearly any defender he goes up against. Kuba is also very skilled on the ball, and rarely loses control of the football when dribbling.

MOHAMED ZIDAN (ST)
The Egyptian striker, just purchased from Hamburger SV, will be an intricate part of the Dortmund attack. The 26 year old should prove to be a fantastic signing for
Die Schwarzgelben, as he uses he speed and ball control to beat his marker. Zidan also possesses great finishing ability, which has repeatedly made him one of the Bundesliga's best strikers.

MANAGER

JURGEN KLOPP
In 2007, Klopp's Mainz side were relegated, but he remained manager for another season. However, due to the fact that Mainz did not achieve promotion, he left the job after the 2007/08 season. Then, in May of 2008, he was appointed as the new manager of Borussia Dortmund. He signed a two-year contract at the club, which had finished in a disappointing 13th place under previous manager Thomas Doll. Soon Klopp managed to gain his first honor with the club, by defeating Bayern Munich 2-1 in the DFB-Pokal finale.

-STAYING UP-
Last Season Finish: 14th (36 pts)
ENERGIE COTTBUS

After narrowly avoiding relegation over the previous two seasons, this may finally be the year Energie Cottbus return to the 2.Bundesliga. Energie possess multiple vacancies throughout their squad, in the defense, midfield, and even the attack. Cottbus do not have a solid, goal-scoring forward that has the ability to grab them a necessary goal, as they're best forward may be Ervin Skela, the 31 year old Albanian. With a very lackluster squad and currently no manager, Cottbus certainly seem doomed from the start, and this should be a very long season for the club, as they will fight to stay in the top tier of German football.

PREDICTED FINISH: RELEGATION.

TRANSFERS IN: Dimitar Rangelov, Emil Jula, Ivica Iliev, Marco Kurth, Savo Pavicevic, Danny Galm, Cagdas Atan, Phillip Pentke.
TRANSFERS OUT: Christian Bassila, Arne Feick, Przemyslaw Trytko, Kristijan Ipsa, Efstathios Aloneftis, Ovidiu Burca, Michal Papadopolous, Tomasz Bandrowski.

KEY PLAYERS

GERHARD TREMMEL (GK)
Gerhard Tremmel will defenitely have his hands full this season which such a weak squad in front of him. The former Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich product has been with Energie Cottbus since coming over from Hanoover 96 in 2006. Tremmel will certainly be very busy this year as he will be looking to prevent Energie from being relegated down to the second division.

ERVIN SKELA (MF)
Skela, the 31 year old Albania will be Cottbus' center of attack once again this season. Since coming to Energie Cottbus from Ascoli in January of 2007, Skela has become a fan favorite and a key player for the East German club. Last season, Skela played in thirty-four matches, netting seven goals. His goals and wonderful plays saved Energie from relegation. Fans will be hoping that he can do the same thing again this season, however, it may be out of his hands and may not be able to prevent Energie's departure from the top tier.

-AVOIDING 'THE BLUES'-
Last Season Finish: 15th (34 pts)
ARMINIA BIELEFELD

Arminia were only three points away from being relegated last season, but were somehow able to survive and stay in the top division. Bielefeld will once again be led by their offensive wizard, Artur Wichniarek, who's speed is purely electrifying. Although Bielefeld may not have the strongest squad, however, what they have may be enough to get them through the season and narrowly avoid relegation once again. Bielefeld are led by Wichniarek, as well as veteran midfielders Rudiger Kauf, Thorben Marx, and teenage midfielder Daniel Halfar. Hopefully, for the Bielefeld fans, they will have enough firepower and a strong enough defense that they can remain in the Bundesliga.

PREDICTED FINISH: 14th.

TRANSFERS IN: Nico Herzig, Christopher Katongo, Berat Sadik, Alexander Laas, Michael Lamey, Dennis Eilhoff, Alexander Bade.
TRANSFERS OUT: Mathias Hain, Petr Gabriel, Christian Eigler, Ioannis Masmanidis, David Kobylik, Bern Korzynietz, Matthias Langkamp, Sibusiso Zuma, Tim Danneberg.

KEY PLAYERS

DENNIS EILHOFF (GK)
The 2008/09 season will be Eilhoff's first season season between the posts for Arminia Bielefeld. Eilhoff is a sold goalkeeper who will most likey overtake South African keeper, Rowen Fernandez, for the number one jersey. The 26 year old possesses lightning quick reactions and handles the ball well. However, his kicking is not something to be desired, and is something he can surely imrpove on.

ARTUR WICHNIAREK (ST)
The 30 year old Pole will easily be Arminia Bielefeld's key offensive contributor. Wichniarek has fantastic pace which almost guarentees that he will be his marker one on one. However, Wichniarek's performance certainly isn't guarenteed, as his age is increasing, and he is already over 30. Wichniarek should be a player to watch this season as Arminia will be looking to stay up.

MANAGER

MICHAEL FRONTZECK
This season will be Frontzeck's first season in charge of Armina Bielefeld after joining Alemannia Aachen. After Aachen were relegated, Frontzeck resigned and then joined Arminia. The 44 year old manager will be looking to lead Bielefeld to a different fate and survive in the Bundesliga.

-STAYING WHERE WE BELONG-
Last Season Finish: 1st (2.Bundesliga)
BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

Fresh off a promotion, Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to stay up in the Bundesliga, and they certainly have the squad and the talent to do so. Monchengladbach have a squad full of young, rising stars, including Marko Marin and new signing, Michael Bradley. As well as some good young talents, Monchengladbach also have strong veteran leadership, in players such as Oliver Nueville and Filip Daems. Monchengladbach do have a squad that is capable of maintaining a spot in the top tier, and do not be surprised if they do stay up this season and succeed.

PREDICTED FINISH: 13th.

TRANSFERS IN: Michael Bradley, Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker, Jean-Sebastian Jaures, Karim Matmour.
TRANSFERS OUT: Eugen Polaski, Nando Rafael, Kasper Bogelund, Robert Fle
ßers, David Degen, Ze Antonio.

KEY PLAYERS

MARKO MARIN (MF)
Marin is one of Germany's hottest rising stars, and will certainly be a key factor in Monchengladbach's success in this upcoming season. His speed, vision, and creativity in the midfield has allowed Marin to be highly successful, especially in Monchengladbach's 2.Bundesliga triumph last season. Watch for Marin to be a threat all year to opponents, as he has his entire career.

MICHAEL BRADLEY (MF)
Bradley was just purchased by Monchengladbach from Dutch Eredivisie side, SC Heerenveen. The 20 year old American is very solid in the central midfield. He is a box-to-box player who has the ability to go in and make a strong tackle, get back up, and take part in the attack. Bradley showed this goal scoring ability last season with Heerenveen, bagging twenty goals in all competitions for the Dutch club. Bradley could prove to be an instrumental part of keeping Monchengladbach in the thick of the survival race.

-A TEAM OF UNKNOWNS-
Last Season Finish: 2nd (2.Bundesliga)
TSG 1899 HOFFENHEIM

Last season's 'Cindarella Story' will now have a chance in Germany's premier division. Hoffenheim surprised Bundesliga fans around the world, as they were promoted to the top division in their first season in the second tier of German football. They possess a wealth of virtually unknown talent, including their two main strikers Demba Ba and Chinedu Obasi, as well as Brazilian Carlos Eduardo, Bosnian Sejad Salihovic, and defenders Marvin Compper, and Andreas Ibertsberger.
After spending a mere one season in the 2.Bundesliga, Hoffenheim earned promotion to the top division, and could easily surprise fans around the country once again, as they do have very talented, young, and very fast players who could cause problems to their opposition. However, the pressure may get to Hoffenheim, which should lead to their relegation, but once their youngsters mature, they could be a very dangerous team.

PREDICTED FINISH: RELEGATION.

TRANSFERS IN: Andreas Beck, Wellington, Gustavo, Isaac Vorsa, Ramazan Ozcan.
TRANSFERS OUT: Steffen Haas, Michael Rundio, Dragan Paljic, Radek Spilacek, Kai Hesse.

KEY PLAYERS

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/Compper1.png
MARVIN COMPPER (DF)
The Hoffenheim captain will be the anchor in the defense for the club. At a mere 21 years of age, Compper may not have the experience other captains possess, but, he is a very good leader. The German center half is very mobile and can move around the pitch as well as anyone, but he is also very strong, and has the ability to hold off many opposing attackers. Expect Hoffenheim to rely on Compper to be their main defender this season.

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/Obasi1.png
CHINEDU OBASI (ST)
Obasi was an integral part of Hoffenheim's promotion to the Bundesliga, his amazing pace and agility has made him one of the brightest talents in Europe. He was part of the Nigerian side that won the U-20 Championships in the Netherlands this summer, when Nigeria fell to the ever so powerful Argentina side. Along with Demba Ba, Obasi should be very dangerous for Hoffenheim up top.

MANAGER

http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt287/Chelsea11_2009/rangnick.png
RALF RANGNICK
After Rangnick was fired by Schalke 04 for poor performance in 2004, and he quickly dropped down a few divisions to join Hoffenheim in the Regionalliga South, Germany's third division. Rangnick proved adept at this level of play, and Hoffenheim earned immediate promotion into the 2.Bundesliga for the first time in their history. Led by Rangnick last season, Hoffenheim surprised Germany by finishing in second in the 2.Bundesliga and obtaning promotion in the top tier of German football. Rangnick will be looking to surprise fans everywhere and maybe even surprise himself by staying in Bundesliga.

Last Season Finish: 3rd (2.Bundesliga)
1.lalala
ÖLN

After being relegated following the 2005/06 campaign, the side from Cologne
, led by Christoph Daum, led them to a third place finish last year to earn a spot in the Bundesliga. Köln have a surprisingly good squad, with a mediocre defense, and a fairly decent attack, however, they are below par in the midfield. Köln have made a few key additions, which could go a long way this season as they seek survival. Brazilian defender, Pedro Geromel was purchased, and with his great marking and tackling ability, should quickly be thrown into the fire as a starting center back. Cologne also purchased Portuguese international midfielder, Petit, from SL Benfica. With a fairly solid roster, Köln certainly have the ability to stay up this season, however, nothing is guarenteed.

KEY PLAYERS

PETIT (MF)
The newest signing for K
öln is Petit, the 31 year old Portuguese international. Petit came over from Liga Sagres in Portugal where he played for SL Benfica. Petit is a controlling force in the midfield, and is renowned for his positioning and awareness on the pitch. He should turn out to be a very solid signing for Köln this season, as he will surely add some depth to their midfield and defense.

MILIVOJE NOVAKOVIC (ST)
The K
öln captain will be a key contributor to their offensive attack this season. The 28 year old Slovenian has very over-powering strength that allows him to out-muscle opposing defenses on his way to the goal. Novakovic also possesses amazing finishing ability that poses a serious threat to the majority of teams around the country.

MANAGER

CHRISTOPH DAUM
Daum took over at the helm of
Köln in 2006 following their relegation. He led Cologne to a ninth place finish the following season, a disaapointment to the club. The following season, Daum led Die Geißböcke to a third place finish and a promotion into the top tier division of football. Daum will be lookiong to keep Köln in the Bundesliga this season, and made a few key purchases to increase his team's chances of staying up.
