![]() There are a number of reasons why I have selected Peterborough United as my team for my next FIFA 09 Manager Mode Thread. Obviously, their recent promotion from League One to the Championship is one of the reasons why I have been inspired to make this thread (although I hope Leeds go up too!). Also, my dad supports Peterborough as they are the first team he ever saw play football as a boy. This makes Peterborough one of my favourite teams, and one whose results I always look out for. Also, they are a team that will be a challenge to run and play as in FIFA 09. I quite like the idea of taking a lower-league team and bringing them up through the leagues to the Premier League, building the team and infrastructure on the way. Hopefully many of you follow this thread, and I’ll try and make it as successful, interesting and entertaining as possible. Suggestions and feedback are also obviously welcome. Thank you. Note: I’m sorry for this, but Wikipedia is going to be my main source for creating this thread. Obviously, I won’t copy and paste from Wikipedia as that’s plagiarism, but I will use it for any information I don’t know. ![]()

![]() Club Name – Peterborough United Football Club Club Nick-Name – The Posh Year Founded – 1934 Stadium – London Road Stadium (15,460 capacity) Manager – Darren Ferguson BACKGROUND INFORMATION Peterborough United – otherwise known by the nick-name ‘The Posh’ – is a professional football club based in Peterborough, England. In the 2008-09 football season, the club will compete in Coca-Cola League One, the third tier in the English football league structure. Even though the club were formed in 1934, they were only admitted to the Football League in 1960, 26 years after their foundation. The club play at the local London Road Stadium, which has a capacity of 15,460. Peterborough United also shares a competitive local rivalry with fellow League One team Northampton Town. BRIEF HISTORY After the club’s formation in 1934, they spent 26 years competing in the now defunct Midland League. However, after winning the title five consecutive years between 1956 and 1960, they were deemed too good for the Midland League and thus were admitted to the old Fourth Division at the expense Gateshead F.C. Their first season in the Football League was a roaring success as they won the Championship and promotion to the old Third Division (now League One). However, after seven seasons in the Third Division, they were relegated back to the bottom tier of the Football League for financial irregularities. Six seasons later, they won the Fourth Division for the second time in the club’s history. In the 1977-78 season, Peterborough nearly created history by being promoted to Division Two. Requiring a win in the last game of the season against champions Wrexham, the team could only muster a 0-0 draw, meaning that Preston North End went up in their place. Subsequent relegation following the season after, and Peterborough United spent 12 seasons languishing in Division Three. The 1991-92 season remains as perhaps the most successful in the club’s history. A impressive League Cup run – knocking out Wimbledon, Newcastle and Liverpool – on the way to a quarter-final defeat in a replay against Middlesbrough was matched with irresistible form in Division Two. The season ended in success, as Peterborough defeated Stockport County in the play-off final on the club’s first trip to the old Wembley. The win was remarkable, with the defining goal coming in injury time, within a minute of Stockport equalising. In the following season (1992-93), the Posh achieved their highest ever Football League finish by coming 10th in the old Division One (Barclays Premier League). In late September of 2006, a new era began in the club’s history, with Irish property tycoon Darragh MacAnthony buying a majority share-holding in the club. MacAnthony appointed Darren Ferguson – son of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson – as Peterborough United’s manager in January of 2007. The following season, Ferguson guided the club to Coca-Cola League One with a second-place finish behind MK Dons. It was built in 1913, but the current stadium bears little resemblence to the original one. The two pitch-side stands are all-seater, while the goal-end stands at each end are both still terraced. Plans to develop an all-new, 20,000 all-seater stadium are currently in the feasability stage of planning.

I would have done a rivalry section, but I don't know if there is much information about Peterborough vs. Northampton. It's not a major footballing rivalry.
I'll probably add a timeline as more information is added. I will admit that I completely forgot any stadium information though. I'll see what I can add now. Manager information was omitted for a reason ![]() Thanks Notts.

D1J, I've whacked a club crest in the OP for you.
Notts, stadium info is in. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll see which players are available on the transfer market
![]() I think transfers on FIFA 09 on PC are different to PS3 though; I can only sign players that are made available by the team that owns them. I have little to no chance of getting a player not for sale or for loan. And that definately means I can't get Ronaldinho. Anyway, I'm aiming for a fair bit of realism in this. Not 100% realism though.I hope I've finally found a team I actually enjoy managing. This should be my last thread koopi. Thanks for the comments guys.

![]() FATHER AND SON SHOCK FOOTBALLING WORLD Manchester United today shocked the football world by announcing that Sir Alex Ferguson will retire as the club’s manager before the start of the 2008-09 Barclays Premier League season. Ferguson has been manager of the Premier League’s most successful team for 22 years, winning a combined total of 30 trophies. He has been knighted for his contributions to football. However, this wasn’t the only shock that Manchester United announced in the press conference, and the second shock certainly eclipsed the first. Immediately following the announcement that Ferguson will retire as manager, it was revealed that his son, Darren Ferguson, will become the new manager of the Premier League side. Darren Ferguson has had his contract with Peterborough United terminated immediately so that he can take up his new job at the European giants. Last season, Ferguson Jr. led the Posh to promotion from League Two with a second-place finish. It is believed that Manchester United have hired Darren Ferguson in order to keep a similar management style at the club. Sir Alex Ferguson will stay at the Red Devils in an advisory role for the 2008-09 Premier League season. ![]() Sir Alex Ferguson (right) and son Darren Ferguson (left) managing their respective former teams in a recent friendly between Peterborough United and Manchester United.

Yeah basically I figure it's something interesting and vaguely conceivable.
Plus it frees up the Peterborough manager position. Guesses for the new manager are welcome, as well as comments on the previous update.

Well that was a spectacular failure, I was expecting hordes of indignant Man Utd fans asking me why Darren Ferguson is their manager.
Update up soon.
