![]() ![]() Name- Prenton Park Location- Prenton, Birkenhead, England Built- 1887 Opened- 9 March 1912 Owner- Tranmere Rovers FC Capacity- 16,789 Surface- Grass Prenton Park is situated in Prenton, Birkenhead, England. It is a multi-use stadium that is mostly used as the home ground to Tranmere Rovers Football Club. The stadium holds 16,789 people and consists of 4 stands. The smallest of these 4 stands is called the Johnny King Stand. It is called the Johnny King Stand after legendary Tranmere forward John King. It was formally known as the Borough Road stand as it runs along the Borough Road side of the pitch. The 3rd Largest stand at Prenton Road is called the Cowshed. The Cowshed holds 2,500 people and was formerly the much loved home end of the ground. However over time it has changed and it is now the away supporters stand. The 2nd biggest stand at Prenton Park is known as the Main Stand. It is the oldest stand at Prenton Park and it was built during the 1960's. The stand is a two tier stand, it is divided into 3 tiers.. The lower tier consists of the Bebington End Paddock it holds 1,122 seats and 28 disabled seats and the Town End Paddock with a capacity of 1,209. The upper tier is known as the main stand. The biggest of the 4 stands is known as the Bebington Kop or just the Kop. It has a capacity of 5,696 and is a single tier stand. Originally the Kop held both home and away supporters or it held just away supporters. However following the 1999 Carling Cup Semi Final when the whole stand was given to the Tranmere Supporters.
