![]() 'Now a lot of our Liverpool Listeners have called in for this one. Gareth Barry was seen in a restaurant talking to Rafael Benitez last night. Big news here.' 'Yes it is, the club haven't said anything about it yet but it could spell trouble for Villla if he is already so far gone into the deal.' 'Well we can't say how far it is yet. Might be the first meeting.' 'Well it could be, but in my experience this means that something's gonna happen. I think we have to watch this very closely for the sake of our Birmingham listeners. 'So call in and tell us what you think about this...' |

![]() ‘One week on and we are once again at Villa Park. Everton are visiting today, and will have boosted confidence after winning their first two games and scoring 8 goals in the process. They are the current favourites with the bookies for this match as Villa have only managed two draws. I’m here with Andy to talk about the finer details.’ ‘’Yes Tim, Villa aren’t even in the top half of the table yet in 12th, behind West Brom and Hull! They need this result to go in their favour today to keep the fans on side. Barry is incredibly on the bench for this one, maybe punishment for his meeting in public with Rafa Benitez?’ ‘Could well be Andy. Bouma is also starting his first game of the season as left back and Harewood starts again after his great game yesterday alongside Agbonlahor.’ ![]() 0’: Villa kick off. Everton are in the white kit today. 13’: Laursen blocks and it is a corner for Everton. Comes to nothing. I think it shows how dominant Everton are in these first few minutes. 28’: A mistake by Jagielka, and Harewood pounces...pushes it ahead of him into the box but Howard is out well to deny him! 33’: Yobo on the edge of his area... Too casual! Milner has stuck a foot in and its come to Agbonlahor, turns...Shoots! Oh what a finish. It hit the underside of the bar as it went in, nothing Tim Howard could do there. What a vital goal that is. Now let’s see if Villa can hang onto a lead for once. 42’: Fellaini with the strike! Ooh, great left footed shot from outside the box but it went just over the bar. 43’:Young, Reo-Coker, Barry, Agbonlahor, Reo-Coker!!! Great move, but well saved by Tim Howard for a corner. ![]() 45’: Yakubu starts off the second half. 52’: Milner’s off for Carew. So it is Carew and Harewood up front and Agbonlahor on the right wing. 60’: Carew, cuts across field. To Harewood in the box, first time pass, Young!!!! Oh my God how has he missed that. 6 Yards out and he’s put it just wide of the post. 63’: Cahill, Cahill is clear of the defence. Rounds Friedel.... Oh and he’s hit the post!!! Cleared by Cuellar, this game could have any scoreline at the moment. 73’: Badly cleared to Yakubu... shoots! Hit the post again! Rebound..Yakubu levels it! Easy tap in eventually to make it 1each. 74’: Barry is coming on now, this has to be the quietest it’s ever been at Villa Park. First they get a goal against them and now a perceived traitor is coming on. Let’s see if he can do anything. 91’: Bouma cuts it out, to Young. Turns, passes to Barry. Barry forward to Harewood, you can feel the urgency. Harewood to Carew, Carew turns and passes back to Harewood. Harewood surges forward, going to the right of the goal... edge of the box, shoots!! Oh yes!! Hits it across goal, and it bounces off the inside of the post and nestles in the back of the net. Harewood is a hero at Villa Park today! 93’: And that’s it! Villa win today, what a result for them. That was just a brilliant game of football. It’s what makes it the best sport in the world. My man of the match would have to be Harewood, he is on fire for Villa at the moment. I completely agree, he is in the best form of his life at the moment. Results from around the Premier League. ‘Let’s see here... Man Utd have beaten Liverpool 0-1 at Anfield. A big result there for the champions of England. Chelsea and Arsenal have drawn 0-0 as well. That is a big result for Man Utd there. It’s looking like their 18th English title this year from what I’ve seen so far. ‘Well thanks for joining us, I’m sure you are glad you did! Villa are now up 4 places to 8th, and next week they have Blackburn away. ‘ |

![]() ‘We are at Ewood Park today as Blackburn host Aston Villa. Harewood keeps his place in the team as does Wilfred Bouma at left back, with Sidwell being the only change from last week as he comes into the side in place of Petrov. ‘ ‘Should be a fiery game this, two very good strike forces on show here, so we might see lots of goals.’ ![]() 0’: Blackburn kick off and go straight on the offensive. 4’: Chipped in... Santa Cruz!!! A diving header there well saved by Friedel for a corner. 40’:Agbonlahor, to Barry, back to Agbonlahor and he’s free! Still...shoots! Oh and he has hit the post. The best chance of the game by far. 45’: Well 0-0 at the break, Blackburn look dangerous from headers but Aston Villa have the pace to really punish them on the break if they can just get lucky. ![]() 58’: Villa get a corner, and Carew is coming on for Ashley Young before they take it. 70’: Roberts with a shot, blocked by Friedel.... Santa Cruz follows up...! Oh what a terrific block by Laursen to deny Blackburn the goal. Friedel was well off his line and Laursen stopped a certain goal by putting his body on the line! 76’: Roberts!!! Oh and he’s hit the bar! 90’: Carew... shoots! Deflected, blocked by a defender, Agbonlahor misskicks...Harewood!!!!! OH AND HE’S DONE IT AGAIN!! Incredibly he’s scored the winner in the last minute two games in a row. He’s only 6 yards out but who cares? He is at the top of his game at the moment. That’s 5 points he’s won for Villa by himself! And that’s it for another weekend. Marlon Harewood is without doubt man of the match yet again. ‘It looks like Man Utd are continuing their dominance, beating Chelsea 2-0.’ ‘Yes they are doing very well at the moment, but Arsenal are in real trouble after getting beaten by Spurs in what I hear was a very controversial game.’ ‘Yes I’ve seen bits of it and it seemed very aggressive. Glad I wasn’t there.’ ‘Well that is it from us. Aston Villa are now in 4th after their last two great results, just behind Manchester City. Next up for them is Portsmouth at home which will be a big game.’ |

![]() 'Well it's been all over the news, Redknapp has come out and said that he will not be selling Darren Bent.' 'Well that is just dreadful news for everyone, the player wanted to go and the team wanted to buy him. Apparently they offered 4 million for him which I guess isn't really enough but to shut the door completely...' 'Yes it isn't like Bent will even be used at Spurs! It's just a bad bad decision. I guess that makes it all the more important for Barry and Young to stay.' 'Well I imagine O'Neill will have impressed upon them how important it is to stay at the club now. I can't see any transfer activity this window for Villa.' 'Well there is only 1 day left, so I don't think there will be any buying or selling from Martin O'Neill.' 'So what about Manchester...' |

![]() '4 games in we have managed to get another interview with Aston Villa Martin O'Neill, and he is right next to me now.'' 'Thank you for inviting me back Tim' 'So 2 wins in a row and unbeaten in 4, how are you feeling?' 'Well confidence is high at the moment, but it hasn't been exactly convincing. We would be more optimistic if it had been 4-0 to us but it has been dramatic late wins that have got us through. Good for the fans but my stress levels are sky high.' 'Well yes, it could be very different if not for Marlon Harewood.' 'Well he is just in terrific form at the moment. You know it has been difficult for him recently with Gabby coming through and old faithful John Carew but he has done brilliantly for us every time we have needed him. With our disappointment in the transfer window...' 'Let's talk about that then. You wanted Darren Bent but with the transfer window closed now you have done no trading! What happened?' 'We were focused on getting him but you know Harry is a stubborn man and that's what has made him so successful. I think he sees the talent that we saw in darren so he wants to keep him a bit longer. It was bitterly disappointing but on the upside we managed to keep everyone else at the club.' 'So who would you have wanted in Birmingham right now?' 'Well Darren obviously. I also like the look of Andres Guardado of Deportivo. He is a great winger, but of course we have two of the greatest English widemen in the game so we can do without for the moment. Another favourite of mine is Kenwyne Jones. His height and Athleticism are just amazing and I think he would be a great addition to Villa at some time in the future.' 'Well thanks for once again a very honest interview. Good luck against Portsmouth.' 'No, thank you for listening to me ramble on. And I have faith that we can get a good result against Portsmouth.' |

![]() ‘It’s Portsmouth against Aston Villa here today, and what a match we have in store!’ ‘What a match indeed. Portsmouth have Crouch and Defoe up front, a lethal English partnership to say the least, with a very strong defence to deny Agbonlahor so it may be tough for Villa today. The home support is also legendary so the Portsmouth players will be fired up but Aston Villa may just have the class and talent to overcome all that today.’ ‘Curtis Davies has been put temporarily into right back after Luke Young felt a twinge yesterday in training. Even after his incredible performances in the last two matches Harewood is still on the bench with Agbonlahor and Carew as the front two. The midfield are the manager’s first choice of Milner, Petrov, Barry and Young.’ ‘They’ve brought a very strong side here today, clearly hoping to keep their unbeaten run going for as long as possible.’ 12’: Young down the left, passes it down the line to Carew. He turns and crosses.... Oh and Agbonlahor has headed it over the bar from 6 yards out!! What a mistake from the young striker. 21’: Another move breaks down for Villa, but it has been quite encouraging in the first 20 minutes. Yes it has been all Villa for the first part of this match. They will gain confidence from this and I expect a goal any time now. 30’: Young... no he is stopped again. Glen Johnson really has the measure of him and is cutting out anything down the left hand side! 31’: Nutmeg from Carew, shoots!! Inches above the bar. 44’: First attack of the game for Portsmouth...Crouch rises!!! Oh and he has got the opener with a header from long range! Martin O’Neill looks furious down there. 45’+1: Johnsone, crosses in...Crouch dummies, Defoe shoots! Oh and it is the second goal of the match courtesy of a great volley by Defoe. 2-0 ![]() 45’: Well O’Neill has brought his saviour Harewood on to try and get something out of this game. 52’: Sidwell down the left, cuts inside and crosses in... Carew up for the header...Oh what a goal! He got in front of the keeper there which was the key Tim. 61’: Carew squares it to Harewood who shoots first time!!! Well saved but Sidwell is following up... GOAL!!!! It’s level courtesy of the two half time substitutes Harewood and Sidwell combining there. 67’: Disaster for Villa, Crouch has scored his second header of the game. 3-2 now in Portsmouth’s favour. What bad luck. I can't believe Pompey are ahead again after all that. Heads are going to be right down for Aston Villa now. 90’: Well it wasn’t Villa’s day today. Final score 3-2 to Portsmouth. Villa deserved at least a point out of that game, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way. I guess O’Neill will be annoyed that he didn’t try and get Peter Crouch after that performance today. He’s got to be man of the match. Results from around the Premier League ‘Well Manchester United stay unbeaten this season with continued dominance, 4 goals to nil against Blackburn.’ ‘Looks like another trophy for them this season.’ ‘Chelsea lose to Tottenham though in a London derby, bad news for them if they want to keep the pressure on Utd at the top.’ ‘And Man City and Liverpool have drawn with 2 goals each. Looks like Man City really are one of the top teams in the league now.’ ‘In 3 days time Villa are away to Bradford City in the second round of the Carling Cup. Could be a chance to see Nathan Delfuoneso who is apparently very good.’ ‘Yes I’ve seen him play and he is a brilliant young man. Bright hope for the future of Villa right there.’ ‘Well we will be back soon to commentate on that game, goodbye for now!’ |

![]() BRADFORD 0-3 VILLA A brace from debutant Nathan Delfuoneso and a goal from Agbonlahor assured victory for Aston Villa and progression to the third round of the Carling Cup. Delfuoneso got his first game for Aston Villa up alongside fellow Birmingham lad Gabriel Agbonlahor. The team had 9 changes from their game against Portsmouth, with Friedel the only other player keeping his place. Aston Villa started very strongly, with Agbonlahor coming very close on multiple occasions but denied by City keeper Rhys Evans. Delfuoneso nearly got his debut goal in the 17th minute, but the width of the post forced him to wait a bit longer. The breakthrough for Villa came after half an hour as Delfuoneso passed the ball to Agbonlahor in the box, who efficiently slotted it into the bottom left corner to put Villa ahead. Bradford were not out of the game however as they constantly looked dangerous from crosses and headers, as was the problem at the weekend against Portsmouth. Martin O’Neill will have to look at how his defence are in the air and pay special attention to their performance in the next game. Bradford were holding on well until fifteen minutes from the end, when Nathan Delfuoneso picked the ball up on the right wing, cut inside with great skill and raised the ball into the top left corner for his first goal for Villa on his debut. Life got even sweeter for the 17 year old when in stoppage time a squared ball across the box gave him an easy tap in to make it a day to remember. Gabriel Agbonlahor and Nathan Delfuoneso looked a dangerous pairing, and they could be a great British partnership in the future. Credit to Bradford for sticking in the game for so long but the scoreline did reflect a very one sided match. Next up for Aston Villa is another trip away to Sunderland, who are very dangerous in the air. Some worries for Martin O’Neill coming up but at least his side are back to winning ways. And here is a look at Nathan's debut goal!
