Fulham Football Club is a team based in London. They were founded in 1879 and celebrated their 125th anniversery in 2004. Fulham are also the oldest professional club in London founded in 1879 as Fulham St.Andrew's Church Sunday School.

They spent alot of time in the first division through the 1960s, but have never actually gained any major honours. Then in 1975, Fulham were a second division team, they contested in the FA Cup final for the only time in their history, only to lose 2-0 against West Ham United. In 2002, Fulham managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup by winning the Intertoto Cup when they beat Bologna 5-3 in the final over two legs, but sadly they only managed to get through two rounds before facing Hertha Berlin and losing 2-1 on aggregate. During the 1990s they had a brief spell in the Fourth Division (which now no longer exists) but they recovered spectaculary by 2000.

Fulham are currently playing at Craven Cottage, the famous stadium, that was built in 1896, to the side of the River Thames in Fulham. Some of you may remember Loftus Road, where Fulham played while Craven Cottage was getting renovated up to the standards Premier League, it took two years to be fully renovated, but it is rumoured that Fulham could make a return to The Loft while the capacity of Craven Cottage is expanded form 26,000 to 30,000. The clubs training ground is loacated near Motspur Park, where Fulham's academy is also situated, which also includes a mini-stadium where some of the reserves play. The Fulhams Ladies' team also played the majority of their games here, untill they were stopped in the summer of 2006.

The history of Fulham is long and vast, but no manager has done the impossible yet and won a major trophy, can the orchestrator of the great escape win that trophy and become a cottagers legend?

Roy Hodgson
  • Date of Birth: 09-08-1947
  • Birth Place: Croydon, London, England
  • Nationality: English
  • Playing Career: Crystal Palace ; Tonbridge ; Gravesend & Northfleet ; Maidstone United
  • Managerical Career: Fulham ; Finland ; Viking FK ; UAE ; Udinese ; F.C. Copenhagen ; Grasshoppers ; Internazionale ; Blackburn Rovers ; Internazionale ; Switzerland ; Neuchatel Xamex ; Malmo FF ; Orebro SK ; Bristol City ; Halmstads BK
The appointment of Roy Hodgson as Fulham Manager by Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed on the 28th December 2007 will surely be remembered as one of the most inspirational managerial appointments in Premier League history.

With only two wins in 20 games during the first half of the 2007/08 season the Chairman’s beloved Club resided at the foot of the Premier League table. Hodgson immediately set about reviving the fortunes of the South West London club, drafting in several new players during the January transfer window and re-branding the Club’s style of play during his intensive daily training sessions at Motspur Park.

Whilst points proved hard to come by in the first two months of Hodgson’s reign, the drastic improvement in the team’s performances inspired hope amongst the Fulham ranks. By Spring the Cottagers were firing on all cylinders and achieved an incredible haul of 12 points from their last five games to secure an eighth successive season in the top flight. A quite remarkable achievement.

With over 30 years managerial experience on the domestic and international scene, Hodgson is a highly respected figure amongst the global football community. Hodgson was invited to Euro 2008 as a member of UEFA’s Technical Team and his earlier successes include leading Switzerland to World Cup 94 and Euro 96.

Fulham fans can look forward to an appealing brand of football at the Cottage this season with Hodgson at the helm. The Whites possess a Manager with a proven pedigree, unrivalled knowledge of the European game and technical astuteness to lead Fulham into battle against the best in the land.

Review:
The battle for the number one jersey is crucial this year if Fulham want to get results, Zuberbuhler is fairly new to the Premiership which could cost points, but with the safe and experienced hands of Schwarzer could gain some points. The aging duo could cause problems if they wish to retire at the end of the season, so a young keeper will certainly be needed.

Review:
The defense is looking fairly solid, but Fulham could do with a good right back. If Hangeland, Hughes or Konchesky get injured, retire or get sold this could spell trouble as these are the rocks at the back! The battle for right back consists of Baird, Paintsil and Stoor, but it seems Paintsil could have it wrapped up for the minute, but with targets closing in on deals could cause Paintsil to lose his place.

Review:
The midfield has basically been chosen with Murphy, Davies, Gera, Dancourt and Dempsey, but with Dempsey going a few games without good form could open up a space for the other midfielders! Omosuzi will be hoping to grab a few caps for Fulham, due to only accumilating a hatfull of apperences.

Review:
The Striker battle will be a tough one this season with so much great talent, such as Nevland, Kamara, Zamora, Johnson and John. It seems like Johnson is winning the race for being the main striker, but Zamora and Nevland are right on his tail.

Key Players

Mark Schwarzer in action
Mark Schwarzer
Schwarzer will be vital for success this season. His amazing saves and safe hands will either keep Fulham up, or help them to UEFA Cup glory. He is already eyeing up either the Carling Cup or FA Cup! Here is Roy Hodgsons view on their Auzzie keeper:-

The Jewel of Fulhams defence
Brede Hangeland
Where would Schwarzer be without his tall defender, Hangeland is strong in the air and scores vital goals! This tough tackling Norweigen will be hoping to keep a constant spot and maybe even nick the captains armband off Danny Murphy! Here is what one of the pundits, Dan Broad, thinks of him:-

Mr.Captain Fantastic
Danny Murphy
Danny Murphy is a very skilled and experienced player who has played for two of the top clubs in Britain, but now he is playing for Fulham and has gone into a defensive role, and now starting to thrive there! Here is Mohammed Al Fayeds' view on Murphy:-
Quote:

The new boy to make a big impact
Andrew Johnson
Andy Johnson is a good young talent whos' attempts in top flight football hasn't gone so well in recent years. After a good year at Everton Johnsons' form dipped dramaticly which resulted in him being sold to Fulham, where he hopes to make a big impact. Here is what ex-fulham player and ex-fulham manager Chris Coleman has to say about him:-
Quote:
