![]() ------------------------------ Foreword Manchester United have always stood in the shadows of Liverpool FC. Sir Matt Busby brought up a promising team, but he had to rebuild after the munich air disaster. In doing so, he brought Uniteds first golden age. Sir Alex Ferguson arrived in 1986 and managed to take Manchester United from 7 league tittles to 17 league tittles, over the space of 22 years. Even today, the club stand one tittle behind their arch-rivals. Sir Alex stated his goal to be, "Knocking Liverpool Of Their Perch." And now, he has almost achieved his goal, but Liverpool have 5 european triumphs compared to United's 3, and that too must be changed, Manchester United must become the pride of all europe. ------------------------------ About The Writer Ahmer50 signed up for the EA Forums on October 1st, 2008. At the time, he was 13 years old, and he managed to write quite a few threads. None of them was any good though, and soon Ahmer became discouraged and stopped writing. After returning from his trip to see his ill grandmother in Pakistan, Ahmer began writing once more, but failed twice more, his Manchester United and Aston Villa threads were disasters. Ahmer then wrote his most successful mm with Fiorentina, and he managed to get 1000 posts on that one. After his hard drive crashed, he started a new Real Madrid thread, but after some torid times, he ended it. Now, he has started his 13th thread, will he get lucky? ------------------------------ Rules Rating The Thread Please do not rate the thread until it reaches 10 pages. I ask this as that gives me time to prove myself, and show what I can do. After this, go ahead and rate the thread as you want. Please make sure to base your rating on the quality of this thread as a whole, not just one bad/good update. Commenting On The Thread Please try to keep the majority of your posts on topic, in order to prevent this thread from being locked or filtered, which wastes time for me, you, and the EA staff. Advertising On The Thread
Go ahead and ask me to see your thread, I dont really mind, but remember, dont do it too much. Ill stop listening, and the EA Staff will warn you for off topic advertising posts. Just try to keep it to the minimal, the reason I am allowing it is because I often forget to read some great threads.

History Manchester United was originally formed as Newton Heath back in 1878. The Club’s shirt colours were green and yellow and they played on a field and North Road. The Club was extremely close to shutting down after becoming bankrupt. Just before having to be closed, the club received an investment from J. H. Davies, the manager of Manchester Breweries. Davies then became Chairman and changed the kit colours to Red and renamed the club Manchester United. Manchester United then started to pick themselves up and won promotion to Division One after finishing 2nd in the 1905-1906 season. United won their first league title two years later as they finished above 2nd place Aston Villa by 9 Points. In 1909, they won their First FA Cup. They beat Bristol City 1-0 after a goal from Sandy Turnbull. Manchester United’s Honours list grew and they started to widen their collections with a win in the Charity Shield in 1908 and 1911 and another Division One title in 1910-1911. The Red Devils then moved to Old Trafford in 1911, but lost 4-3 to Liverpool in the First Game at the new Stadium. Manchester United then took a tumble and eventually were relegated to Division 2 in 1922. However, three years later, they got promotion again. Up until the Second World War, Manchester United were a club on the go with several relagations and promotions. Matt Busby was appointed manager of Manchester United in 1945. Nobody really liked him much after playing for rivals Manchester City and Liverpool. Busby gathered in the best players he could buy and went on a search for titles. In three successive years, United finished 2nd the league, they also won the FA Cup in 1948 after an amazing 4-2 win over Blackpool at Wembley. This was United’s 2nd FA Cup Title. Busby realised that experience wasn’t the only key to success and brought in youth players whenever he could. The Youth players were know as the ‘Busby Babes’. The key player among these players was Duncan Edwards, who was amazing for Manchester United at wing-half. Manchester United then became the First English Club to compete in the European Cup. As Manchester United flew home after a 3-3 draw with Red Star Belgrade in the Quarter-Final, tragedy struck. The plane, carrying all of the players and passengers stopped for petrol in Munich. The plane failed to take off on the first two attempts and the third was fatal as the plane skidded across the runway and collided with a house. Many players were badly injured or even dead after the crash which left the World in shock. It was two months before Busby was let out of hospital. After the disaster, Manchester United pushed for more titles and managed to get into the FA Cup Final despite losing nine first-teamers and the season after, managed to push Wolverhampton Wanderers right to the wire. Busby rebuilt his team after recovering from his injuries and signed Dennis Law and George Best. The Team went on to win the FA Cup in 1963 and went onto win two league titles in the next 3 years. United then lifted the European Cup after a 4-1 win over Benfica becoming the First English club to win the competition. However, Busby resigned in 1969 and this caused United problems as they failed to replace him. Tommy Docherty replaced Frank O’Farrell and went on to save Untied from relegation, but when Charlton, Law and Best went, United suffered relegation in 1974. This didn’t stop United lifting a couple more League Titles and FA Cups. Doherty was sacked after a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup Final. United built up a stronger team with Bryan Robson, Mark Hughes, Norman Whiteside. In November 1986, Ron Atkinson was sacked and Sir Alex Ferguson was brought in on the same day. Ferguson didn’t bring immediate success with United finishing 11th in his first season in charge. At the beginning of the 1990 season, Many people thought strongly against Ferguson and thought he should be sacked. The Fans thought Ferguson’s fate would be sealed in the Nottingham Forest match in the FA Cup Third round. United won the match after a Mark Robins goal, they also went onto win the competition after winning 1-0 in the replay. Ferguson then turned to a hero as they beat Barcelona 2-1 in the European Cup Winners’ Cup. In the summer of 1991, United signed Peter Schmeichel, who was literally a wall in goal after keeping 17 clean sheets. United then brought in another legend by signing Eric Cantona from Leeds United. Roy Keane was also brought in from Nottingham Forest. Then another tragedy was seen as Sir Matt Busby passed away. After two great seasons at the Start of the Premier League, Blackburn managed to stop their hat-trick by taking the title in 1994. United continued to bring in players after the signing of Andy Cole. Fergie then brought in some of today’s World Stars. David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs. Alan Hansen then criticised Manchester United, saying “You can’t win anything with Kids”. But he was wrong as United went on to win more FA Cup and Premier League Titles. The 1998-1999 season was United’s greatest season. They managed to win the Premier League by 1 Point after Arsenal sent them all the way. United beat Newcastle 2-0 in the FA Cup Final to secure the double with a Champions League Final still to play. Bayern Munich took the lead in the Final after 6 minutes when Mario Basler scored a free-kick. The Game was on the fringe of ending when Manchester United won a corner. Giggs fired a shot across goal into the path of Sheringham, who stroked the ball into the net. Less than 30 seconds later, and United had another corner. Sheringham then turned provider as he headed the ball down to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who punted the ball into the roof of the net to secure the Treble. United have won lots of Titles over the years, and after the Treble, It continued. United have won 5 Premier League Titles since the Treble, to go with the 5 Before makes 10. The FA Cup has only fallen to United once since the Treble as they beat Milwall 3-0 at the Millennium Stadium. In 2008, United picked up their Third European Title. The League was sent onto the last day, as Manchester United pipped Chelsea to the Title after a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic. The Champions League Final was against Chelsea at Moscow. Avram Grant hadn’t won a Title under Chelsea after losing out on the League and the Carling Cup. The Game went into Penalties after Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard scored in Normal Time. Carlos Tevez, Michael Carrick, Michael Ballack and Julio Belletti made it 2-2 on penalties as Ronaldo stepped up to take the next penalty. However, just like in the semi-final, Ronaldo missed from the penalty spot. If Chelsea captain John Terry could score, Chelsea would have lifted the title, however, he slipped and hit the post. Anelka then missed to give United their 3rd Champions League Title. Avram Grant was sacked soon after this game to give United even more pleasure.

Stadium ![]() Stadium Information: Name: Old Trafford UEFA: 5 Stars Location: Sir Matt Busby Way, Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England Broke ground: 1909 Opened: 19 February 1910 Owner: Manchester United Operator: Manchester United Surface: Grass Construction cost: £90,000 Architect: Archibald Leitch Capacity: 76,212 seated Field dimensions: 105 x 68 m Tenants: Manchester United ------------------------------ Stadium History: Before 1902, Manchester United were called Newton Heath, during which time they played their football at North Road and later Bank Street in Clayton. However, both grounds were had horrible playing conditions, not fitting for a club of this size. Therefore, after the club's rescue from bankruptcy and renaming, the new chairman John Henry Davies decided in 1909 that the Bank Street ground was not fit for a team of United stature, so he donated funds for the construction of a new stadium. The £60,000 lent to the club by Davies was to pay for the land and the construction of a ground with a capacity of around 100,000. However, to reach that capacity it would have cost an extra £30,000 over the budget and thus the capacity was reduced to approximately 80,000. Nevertheless, the cost of construction at a time when transfer fees were around the £1,000 zone, only served to prove the club's "Moneybags United" nickname, with which they had been given since Davies had taken over as chairman. Old Trafford was designed by Scottish architect Archibald Leitch who designed many other football stadiums, the ground featured seating in the south stand with a roof, while the remaining three stands were left as terraces and thus had no roof. Construction was carried out by Messrs Brameld and Smith of Manchester and development was completed in 1909. The stadium hosted its inaugural game on 19 February 1910, with United playing host to Liverpool in the northwest derby. However, the home side were unable to provide their fans with a win to mark the occasion, as Liverpool won 4–3 much to the fans dismay. In 1936, as part of a £35,000 refurbishment, an 80-yard-long roof was added to the north stand while roofs were added to the south corners in 1938. However, German bombs during the Second World War on 11 March 1941 destroyed most of the stadium. After pressure from United chairman James W. Gibson, the War Damage Commission granted Manchester United £4,800 to remove the debris and £17,478 to rebuild the stands. During the reconstruction of the stadium, Manchester United played their "home" games at Maine Road, the home of their cross-town rivals, Manchester City. Though Old Trafford was reopened in 1949, it meant that a league game had not been played at the stadium for nearly 10 years. A roof was placed back onto the Main Stand by 1951 and, soon after, the three remaining stands were covered. The club also invested £40,000 in the installation of proper floodlighting, so that they would be able to use the stadium for the European games that were played in the late evening. With the 1966 FIFA World Cup approaching, the United directors completely redesigned the ground's north and east stands. Since then, there have been minor upgrades, and expansions but no major changes have taken place. The only major change to have taken place was the conversion to an all seater following the tragic events in world football.
