![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The incredible climb of the Partenopei slowed down in the 2008/2009 Season when after a promising start, the Azzurri could only muster a 7th place position in the table by the January transfer window. Little work was done in the transfer market, as it seemed clear that the powers-that-be were saving for the 2009 Summer market. ![]() |

Edy Reja leaves behind him one of the most appetizing managing jobs in the world of Calcio. A team that had more fans at its home games when they were in Serie C1, then most teams that were in Serie A, a team that boasts the third largest Stadium in Italy, and a team that is destined to return the days of not-so-long-ago... the days of the great Maradona... when the atmosphere in the Stadio San Paolo was something like an Argentine rivalry match.
With the door open for the Napoli job, DeLaurentiis and Marino have a serious decision to make. Names like Roberto Donadoni, Roberto Mancini, and Didier Deschamps have all come into the discussion... perhaps Antonio Conte, Walter Mazzarri, or Pasquale Marino? The fans have their opinions, but there are only two that really matter. Regardless, this new manager will have some serious expectations for the 2009-2010 season. ![]() Napoli is a team destined for success... it is in their DNA and with the young and talented players they have, the sky is the limit. There is a problem that comes when young players have a ton of success... and that is the threat of bigger teams snatching them away. Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Walter Gargano all have some serious suiters out there that are ready to make Napoli "an offer they can't refuse"! Or, perhaps even better, an offer they shouldn't refuse. |

![]() Former Juventus midfielder, Antonio Conte, was announced as the new manager of Napoli. This is a huge step for the 40 year old manager, who has only had full responsibilities of two teams, starting in 2005 with Arezzo and in 2007 with Bari. The man from Lecce was on Marcello Lippi's coaching staff for the 2010 World Cup and surely received a good review from the former Napoli boss. Last season he led Bari to the promotion playoffs with a team that not many gave a chance to get that far. This season, his new team, Napoli, are expected to qualify for the UEFA Cup... a feat they failed to accomplish a year ago. Napoli have some seriously important peices of the puzzle in place, but DeLaurentiis was very cautious with his wallet last January. Surely, Conte will do his best to convince the drama king to spend a bit more this time around. With some serious issues on the backline and taking over a tactical setup that Conte surely is not too keen on, some changes are surely to be expected. |

![]() Juventus' Alessio Secco has tabled a bit for Napoli's Marek Hamsik for €17 million. Pierpaolo Marino and Antonio Conte are in desperate need of some money at the club, but selling one of their most prized posessions might not be worth the price. |

![]() Ezequiel Lavezzi has demanded that Napoli fork over the dough! The young Argentine is arguably the most important man for Napoli and has become a fan favorite with his inspirational performances. However, he has certainly rustled some feathers with his latest comments: Lavezzi: "I feel my importance to the team and based on my past performances, that I am worth more than what I am getting paid. I know that Mr. DeLaurentiis will agree with me". For a player that has been so loyal to Napoli, it seems strange that he would come out at such a time with these demands. If anyone can settle the waters, though, it would be Pierpaolo Marino. |

![]() With Antonio Conte in charge of the technical side of Napoli now, the 3-4-1-2 will surely be thrown out. This puts players like Christian Maggio and Salvatore Aronica in question due to their status as "tweeners" in a more ridgid system. All signs lead to Conte running a 4-4-2, but it cannot be for sure until the transfers start to roll in and out. |

![]() Fabio Cannavaro has sent out his much anticipated rescue signals to his hometown team, Napoli. Marino will surely act on this, as this will bring to the Napoli backline what they have been lacking the past two seasons. Fabio is getting on the edge of being past it at 35 (will be 36 in September), but his recent World Cup performace should give Napoli fans a bit of assurance. |

![]() Conte and Marino have made it no secret that they are going to pursue Antonio Cassano and Taye Taiwo this summer. Cassanata would surely be a welcome addition to Southern Italy, as he grew up in the same region of Italy as Conte... Puglia. Taiwo, the Nigerian beast would be the key to the left side of a flat back four for Napoli. The question with both of these men however... is Napoli big enough for them? With no Europe to lure them in, Napoli can only offer them a mistique, and talk about potential. |

Rumors have been circulating that Napoli are looking to upgrade their central midfield for the new season. Conte does not seem to have faith in Manuele Blasi, despite the fact that he clearly out-classed Walter Gargano last season. Of course this could all be speculation, but three names have leaked out of the Napoli camp: Gaetano D'Agostino, Antonio Nocerino and Miguel Veloso.
![]() D'Agostino, of Palermo, has blossomed under the new Pirlo-esque role handed to him by Pasquale Marino at Udinese. He is sound defensively, but provides his real value by controlling the tempo of the game with great distribution and stylish long passing. Surely he would offer Napoli something special in the center of the park, but Napoli will have to act fast because there are a number of major teams that are hot on his trail. ![]() After being sold to Palermo from Juventus last season, Antonio Nocerino has become the anchor in the midfield for Palermo. However, his entire career he has spoken of nothing but playing for his hometown club, Napoli. He has requested to leave Palermo only for Napoli, but will the team of his heart make a move? ![]() Another name for the central midfield is Miguel Veloso of Portugal. The Sporting man will be a tough cookie to steal due to his extremely high buyout clause. Manchester United are looking to be in first place in the running for him, but Napoli could convice Miguel with their lure of first team football and much better weather. |

![]() Pierpaolo Marino might finally get his wish. Secco and Marino were spotted in Turin today and would surely be discussing a move for Vincenzo Iaquinta. Iaquinta has been the apple of Marino's eye since he came to Napoli. Marino discovered him for Udinese back in 2000 and knows what he is capable of. With Zalayeta surely on his way out this summer and sporadic performances from current striker Denis, Iaquinta could be the man for the job. ![]() Napoli might bring another Southern Italian in when they expressed their interest for in-from striker, Sergio Floccari. Floccari has been a late bloomer for Atalanta and is surely on the out this transfer period. Juventus and Milan have both shown interest in the Calabrese striker, but no official bids have been made. ![]() Fernando Cavenaghi could leave Bordeaux this summer for greener pastures. The Italo-Argentine could make his way to Napoli who are in need of a striker. Fernando has a great goal scoring rate in Ligue 1 for Bordeaux and the Partenopei could surely use that in Serie A next season. |

![]() The media has been confused for some time now as to why no Italian clubs have made a serious offer for Giuseppe Rossi. Sure, there is the silly contract he has with Manchester United and Villareal that suggests that United can buy him back at any time, therefore making any sale of Rossi to be paid out to two teams... well, I think the question was just answered. It is a real shame that the star of World Cup 2010 is yet to find an Italian home. Although they certainly aren't in the financial circumstances to afford such an exchange, Napoli have declared their interest for the fiery secondo punto. |
