Default Manchester City - A New Beginning

Manchester City – A New Beginning

Club Name: Manchester City
Nicknames: The Citizens, The Blues, City
Founded: 1880
Ground: City of Manchester Stadium
Capacity: 47,726
Owner: Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Chairman: Kaldoon Al Mubarak

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

History

Manchester City were founded in 1880, when they were founded they were called St. Marks. The founders were Anne Connell and two wardens of St. Marks Church. Then in 1887 they moved into there new ground, Hyde Road, in Ardwick. They changed there name to Ardwick A.F.C, this was because they wanted to be named after the location that they played their home games.

Then after financial problems in 1893, led to the team changing their name to Manchester City F.C, and since then it has remained the same. The first honor that Manchester City managed to gain was the Second Division in 1899 and then got promoted to the highest level in English football. Then on the 23rd of April 1904 they won the F.A Cup by beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0. The season after City just missed out on a League and Cup double.

Into the more modern days, and in 2008, Sven-Goren Eriksson was replaced by current manager, Mark Hughes. Then on the last day of the transfer window in the year 2008, Manchester City made a £32.5 million transfer for Brazilian Robinho. This amount smashed the English transfer record and also out bid Chelsea. Manchester City are among the richest clubs in the world now.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark Hughes

Mark Hughes is the current manager of Manchester City and took the place of Sven-Goren Eriksson in 2008. Since then he has brought Shawn Wright-Phillips and Robinho to Manchester City. Before he got the job at City, there was a lot of interest from Chelsea after they had sacked Avram Grant. Then on the 2nd of June, Blackburn Rovers announced that they had allowed Mark Hughes to talk to City.

On the 4th of June, Mark Hughes signed a three year contract to stay at Manchester City. Then on the 1st of September, Manchester City were taken over by the Abu Dhabi United investment group. Who have given large amounts of transfer funds to City so they can bring more quality into the team. So Mark Hughes has money to spend so he can lead the team higher up the Barcley's Premier League table.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UEFA Rating:

Manchester City currently play at the City of Manchester City and it has held many great memories. The stadium has a UEFA rating of four star and is the fifth largest stadium in the Premier League and the twelfth largest in the United Kingdom.
