The founders were Anne Connell and two wardens of St. Marks Church. Then in 1887 they moved into there new ground, Hyde Road, in Ardwick. They changed there name to Ardwick A.F.C, this was because they wanted to be named after the location that they played their home games. Then after financial problems in 1893, led to the team changing their name to Manchester City F.C, and since then it has remained the same. The first honor that Manchester City managed to gain was the Second Division in 1899 and then got promoted to the highest level in English football. Then on the 23rd of April 1904 they won the F.A Cup by beating Bolton Wanderers 1-0. The season after City just missed out on a League and Cup double. Into the more modern days, and in 2008, Sven-Goren Eriksson was replaced by current manager, Mark Hughes. Then on the last day of the transfer window in the year 2008, Manchester City made a £32.5 million transfer for Brazilian Robinho. This amount smashed the English transfer record and also out bid Chelsea. Manchester City are among the richest clubs in the world now. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mark Hughes ![]() Mark Hughes is the current manager of Manchester City and took the place of Sven-Goren Eriksson in 2008. Since then he has brought Shawn Wright-Phillips and Robinho to Manchester City. Before he got the job at City, there was a lot of interest from Chelsea after they had sacked Avram Grant. Then on the 2nd of June, Blackburn Rovers announced that they had allowed Mark Hughes to talk to City. On the 4th of June, Mark Hughes signed a three year contract to stay at Manchester City. Then on the 1st of September, Manchester City were taken over by the Abu Dhabi United investment group. Who have given large amounts of transfer funds to City so they can bring more quality into the team. So Mark Hughes has money to spend so he can lead the team higher up the Barcley's Premier League table. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stadium ![]() Manchester City currently play at the City of Manchester City and it has held many great memories. The stadium has a UEFA rating of four star and is the fifth largest stadium in the Premier League and the twelfth largest in the United Kingdom. Starting XI – Goalkeepers Joe Hart Name: Charles Joseph John Hart D.O.B: April 19, 1987 Place of Birth: Shruwsbury, England Height: 1. 90m Number: 1 Bio Before Manchester City, Joe Hart played for Shruwsbury Town. On the 22nd May 2006, Manchester City made £600,000 bid for Joe Hart, but depending on apperances, the fee could raise to £1,500,000. In his time at Shrewsbury Town, Joe Hart made 54 apperances in three years. And then he moved to Manchester City and has made 47 appearances and has been loaned out twice, to both Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool. Contender for place Kasper Schmeichel Kasper Schmeichel joined Manchester City back in 2003, but has not been at the club very much. Since then he has been loaned out to six teams. Starting XI – Defenders Pablo Zabeleta ![]() D.O.B: January 16, 1985 Place of Birth: Buenos Aires, Argentina Height: 1. 78m Number: 5 Bio Zabeleta started out his club career at San Lorenzo in 2002, then he moved to RCD Espanyol in 2005 after making 66 appearances and scoring 8 goals. At RCD Espanyol, Zabeleta made 80 appearances and scored 3 goals. Then in 2008, Manchester City paid £6.45 million to bring Zabeleta to the club. Zabeleta has made just two appearances for his national team, Argentina. However, he also represented Argentina in the 2008 Bejjing Olypics. Where he made six appearances for them and helped out a lot in defence. Richard Dunne ![]() Name: Richard Patrick Dunne D.O.B: September 21, 1979 Place of Birth: Dublin, Ireland Height: 1. 86m Number: 22 Bio Dunne's first profesional club was Everton, when he signed profesional forms in 1996. Then he signed with Manchester Cityback in 2000. And since then, he has become loved at the club and became captain on the 20th of July, 2006. At Everton, Richard Dunne made 60 appearances but didn't manage to score any goals. However there was a different story at Manchester City, he has made 280 appearances and scored 7 goals. Micah Richards ![]() Name: Micah Lincoln Richards D.O.B: June 24, 1988 Place of Birth: Birmingham, England Height: 1. 80m Number: 2 Bio Micah Richards has only played for one senior club, Manchester City, and while there he has made 85 appearances and scored 1 goal. But he has played for two youth teams, Oldham Athletic and Manchester City. He started his international career at the England U21s, and it only took him 4 games and to score one goal before moving to the first team. So far in the first team, Richards has made 11 appearances and scored 1 goal. Michael Ball ![]() Name: Michael John Ball D.O.B: October 2, 1979 Place of Birth: Liverpool, England Height: 1. 78m Number: 3 Bio Micheal Ball has played at four different teams in his time as a profesional career, these clubs are, Everton, Rangers, PSV Eindhoven and Manchester City. He joined Manchester City on an unknown fee. At Everton, Ball made 121 appearances and scored 2 goals, and at Rangers, Ball made 55 appearances and scored one before leaving to PSV in 2005. Then at PSV, Ball made just 11 appearances and then moved to City. At City he has made 48 appearances. Contender for place Tal Ben Haim ![]() Tal Ben Haim joined Manchester City in 2008 and became the second of Mark Hughes' signings. The fee paid was about £5 million. After he signed, Tal Ben Haim said “I’m definitely going to give my best to City and give my heart in every game. I hope that we can do good things this season. I’m looking forward to starting the season here.”

Starting XI – Midfielders Shaun Wright-Phillips D.O.B: October 25, 1981 Place of Birth: Greenwich, England Height: 1. 65m Number: 8 Bio Shaun Wright-Phillips has played for three clubs, and two of these were Manchester City, the other was Chelsea. His first spell at the club started in 1999 and lasted six years until 2005. Then he moved to Chelsea and stayed there until 2008. Then in 2008, Manchester City boss, Mark Hughes decided to bring Wright-Phillips back to the club. In Shaun Wright-Phillips' first spell at City, he managed to make 158 appearances and scored 26 goals. When he moved to Chelsea, he remained there for three years and made 82 appearances and scored just 4 goals. At the moment at his second spell at City, he has made 18 appearances and scored 3 goals. Vincent Kompany Name: Vincent Kompany D.O.B: April 10, 1986 Place of Birth: Uccle, Belgium Height: 1. 93m Number: 33 Bio Vincent Kompany has played for three different senior clubs, Anderlecht, Hamburg SV and Manchester City. His first club was Anderlecht, where he spent three years of his time. Then in 2006, he moved to Hamburg SV and remained there for two years. In 2008 he moved to Manchester City. In all of his three clubs, Kompany made a total of 119 appearances and 7 goals. 73 of these appearances and 5 goals came from Anderlecht. 28 appearances and 1 goal came from Hamburg SV. And so far Kompany has made 18 appearances and scored 1 goal. Michael Johnson ![]() Name: Michael Johnson D.O.B: February 24, 1988 Place of Birth: Urmston, England Height: 1. 83m Number: 6 Bio Michael Johnson has only been a professional footballer for two years, and all his time he has remained at Manchester City. However he has played for two youth teams, Everton youth team and Manchester City youth team. In his two years at Manchester City, Micheal Johnson has made 32 appearances and scored 2 goals. He has not quite made it into the England first team, but he is currently in the England U21s. And has made 2 appearances. Contender for place Stephan Ireland Stephan Ireland makes the first team quite a lot for Manchester City and is a player with a lot of talent. However, he is only one of the four Manchester City midfielders with a lot of talent. So he is struggling to find a permanent place in the Manchester City line up.

Starting XI Forwards Robinho Name: Robson de Souza D.O.B: January 25, 1984 Place of Birth: Sao Vicente, Brazil Height: 1. 73m Number: 10 Bio Robinho started out at Santos in 2002, and then he was picked up by Real Madrid, which helped him make a name for himself. He soon became one of the greatest players in the world. And then in 2008, everyone was certain that he was going to join Chelsea, but then he made a shock move to a team in blue, but not Chelsea. He moved to Manchester City for a fee of £32.5 million and was given the number 10 shirt. Robinho made 187 appearances during his three years at Santos and scored an amazing 81 goals. Then he was picked up by Real Madrid and moved to Spain. While he was at Real Madrid, Robinho made 109 appearances and scored 36 goals. And in less then a year at Manchester City, Robinho has played 15 goals and scored 11. That's about 0.7 goals per game on average. Elano ![]() Name: Elano Blumer D.O.B: June 14, 1981 Place of Birth: Iracemapolis, Brazil Height: 1. 75m Number: 11 Bio Elano too started out at Santos, but he started professional football a year before Robinho, in 2001. And after four years at Santos, Elano moved to Shakhtar Donetsk, and remained there for two years. In 2007, Elano moved to Manchester City. At Santos, Elano made a total of 131 appearances and scored 33 goals in his four years at the club. Then at Shakhtar Donetsk, Elano made 48 appearances and scored 14 goals. Then in 2007 Elano joined City and has made 48 appearances and has scored 11. Jo ![]() Name: Joγo Alves de Assis Silva D.O.B: March 20, 1987 Place of Birth: Sao Paulo, Brazil Height: 1. 88m Number: 14 Bio Jo started off his professional career at the Brazilian Corinthians in 2003, and remained there for two years until 2005. Then he moved to CSKA Moscow and stayed until 2008. In 2008, Jo moved to Manchester City for a fee of £19 million. At Corinthians, Jo made 81 appearances and scored 13 goals in two years. Then at CSKA Moscow, Jo made 53 appearances and scored 30 goals. So far at Manchester City, Jo has scored 1 goal in 9 appearances.
Contender for place Daniel Sturridge ![]() Daniel Sturridge is only 19 and has a great future ahead of him. Although he does not look like replacing Robinho, Elano and Jo, Daniel Sturridge has a long road of talent ahead of him. He is defiantly a prosper for the future.
