Chelsea's First PreSeason Stumble

For the match against Feyenoord Luis Felipe Scolari chose a very young lineup for the midfield outside of Michael Ballack. He stated before the match he wanted to see how the youngsters would perform in a game situation.

For the match Juliano Belletti returns to the starting lineup after receiving a 1 match ban for a red card he was shown in the 1st preseason match against PSV. Deco also returns after his red card from the same match and Scolari chooses to have him ready on the bench. So Chelsea’s midfield features a whole lot of youth but the bench comes with a mix Franco Di Santo and John Obi Mikel providing a youth bit although Mikel has proven himself and Florent Malouda, Deco, and Bosingwa taking on the experienced part.

The match’s first goal came in the 34th minute from atrocious marking by the Chelsea defense.

Makaay crossed the ball into Tomasson who had John Terry and Michael Ballack on either side of him in the middle part of the 18 yard box. Tomasson stuck his foot out connecting with the ball and putting it into the far post side netting past an outstretched Henrique Hilario.

5 minutes after the goal Wayne Bridge received a yellow card and just a minute before halftime Fabio Paim was booked for a mistimed tackle.

At halftime Scolari opted for 1 change taking a fitness struggling Paim off for Deco.

Twenty one minutes later Deco received his 2nd red card in as many games as he’d played for a stupid tackle. Scolari would be frustrated with his only signing so far most likely.

5 minutes later Scolari opted to bring on another experienced player after moving Miroslav Stoch outwide to Deco’s position Florent Malouda came on for Sinclair on the left wing.

Just a couple of minutes after the change Chelsea had earned themselves a corner. Salomon Kalou was elected to take it. He sent in a very very low hard driven cross directed at the top of the 6 yard box and Timmer the Feyenoord keeper chose to come out. But to no avail as Kakuta shot and the ball went under Greene’s leg.

The game ended in a 1-1 tie.

thanks for the comment.. Arial Narrow for report is what Ive been looking for! I looked at C11s MM and the font is what I liked ... tfw with the spacing out of the lineup

Scolari Misses Out On Munich Winger

Chelsea FC have announced on their website today they have completed a deal with English third division club Huddersfield Town to send Michael Mancienne on loan to them for the rest of the 2008-2009 season. It was reported earlier as Scolari signed 3 of the academy's best (Kakuta, Stoch, and Mancienne) that a couple if not all would be put out on loan to gain vital experience in game situations. Mancienne was hoping to join a Coca-Cola Championship team but was happy to join Huddersfield and now will probably have plenty opportunities in the starting lineup.

In other news out of Italy today: Alessandro Nesta, 32 has been sold to Liverpool for an undisclosed fee reportedly in the 12-20 million US dollar range. This will seriously boost Liverpool’s defense with Jamie Carragher and Nesta now as most likely starting center backs.

In a shocking move Bastian Schweinsteiger has gone to Werder Bremen. Chelsea was after the right midfielder but in a shocking turn of events Schweinsteiger has been sold to Bremen. First reports suggested that Chelsea’s first offer that was rejected reported that the offer was in the area of 8+ million but was actually as low as 7 million US dollars. Chelsea’s 2nd rejected offer was higher at about 8 million. Bremen offered what is reported to be nearly $9,000,000 and Scolari says today Munich did not give Chelsea long enough to determine if they would offer higher. Big Phil is still after a right midfielder and could possibly turn his attention to Jesus Navas who would probably cost in upwards of $20 Million.
