Preview of Matchday #2 of the Premier League Plus Transfer News Chelsea vs Aston Villa vs![]() Venue: Stamford Bridge ![]() Transfer Speculation Speculation continues that Luis Felipe Scolari is after a back-up striker to support his 4-3-1-2 formation although he is changing to a 4-5-1 for probably the next 3 matches due to Anelka’s suspension. The possible candidates to come to the Bridge include Ighalo, young American striker Jozy Altidore, Klasnic who just joined Nantes, B. Gomis from St. Etienne, Balotelli from Inter Milan, and Alexandre Pato from AC Milan. Reports from the Mirror, The Sun, Sky Sports, and Setanta Sports say that Pato, Altidore, Ighalo, and Klasnic are the leading candidates in Scolari and 3 of the 4 are young strikers coming up with promise. Preview As Chelsea come off a well fought battle that ended in a stalemate against Liverpool they face a struggling Aston Villa. Martin O’Neill has suffered 2 losses 3-1 against Fulham and a 1-0 to Wigan. Now Villa must face Chelsea and can only have the highest hope of even getting a draw out of the match. Chelsea News: Team Record (W-L-T): 1-0-1 Last 5 Overall: W-D Table Spot: 3rd with 4 Points Ricardo Carvalho returns to the starting lineup after suffering from a hamstring injury. Jesus Navas will start after being pulled out late right before the Liverpool game due to a warm-up injury. Because of Anelka’s 3 match suspension Drogba will be the lone striker in a 4-5-1 formation similar to the formation used in pre-season with a few tweaks. Deco+Lampard partner in the attacking midfield with Navas+Joey Cole on the wing. Salomon Kalou, Belletti, Obi Mikel, Sinclair, Ballack, Malouda, and Alex are available off the bench for Scolari. --Cech— --A. Cole—Carvalho—Terry—Bosingwa— --Essien-- --Lampard—Deco-- --Navas-------------J. Cole-- --Drogba-- Aston Villa News: Team Record (W-L-T): 0-2-0 Last 5 Overall: L-L Table Spot: 19th with 0 Points Martin O’Neill can only have slight hopes of even getting a point against Chelsea after suffering losses 3-1 and 1-0 to Fulham and Wigan respectively. Nobody predicted a loss to Wigan after Aston Villa having come in 4th place last season. Today Steve Sidwell plays against his former club after joining Villa in the quest for more first team play. He starts on the left wing. Gabby Agbonlahor teams up with John Carew up top but we could see Marlon Harewood enter the match. --Friedel— --Shorey—Cuellar—Laursen—L. Young-- --Sidwell—Barry—Reo Coker—A. Young-- --Carew—Agbonlahor-- Players to Watch For Didier Drogba: Drogba has scored in every match so far this Premier League and with only hope to take advantage of Aston Villa’s bad form to grab another goal or two. ![]() Frank Lampard: Lampard has been terrific under Scolari and will also get plenty of chances to score goals and don’t be surprised if he creates some. ![]() Gabriel Agbonlahor: The young striker is looking to get his team back on track; hopefully he can rebound and maybe even get a goal against the Blues. ![]() Predictions Valo Predicts Chelsea Win Goalscorer: Drogba 2x Exact Score: 2-1 Cleansheet: None Correct Score for 1 team: Chelsea 2 Aston Villa 1 Yellow/Red Card: Cuellar MOTM: Drogba Cahill4 Predicts

![]() Lampard & Drogba Thrash Villa! ![]() vs ![]() Chelsea started attacking early! In the 7th minute Joe Cole took the ball to the edge of the 18 on the sideline part. Cole cut back and crossed the ball to Deco, Deco headed the ball of Luke Young. Didier Drogba got around 4 defenders in the box and ripped a shot first time at Brad Friedel who was coming out! The result a corner kick! Frank Lampard hit a well directed ground corner onto the top of the 6 with Drogba, Shorey, and Friedel going for the ball. Drogba muscled his way into position for the ball and ripped 1st time! The ball deflected off Friedel and went in!!! Chelsea up 1-0 in the 7th minute! Also making that Drogba's 5th goal of the season! Just more than 10 minutes after the goal in what Villa’s turn for a chance. Steve Sidwell hit a lobbed through ball from half-field to Agbonlahor who had run behind the Blues defense! Agbonlahor was away to goal with Cech racing out. Right as Agbonlahor hit took a big touch Cech scooped the ball up diving after it! That was a close call for the Blues! Now to the 36th minute as the other Cole, Ashley, hit a short lobbed through ball to Navas up the side of the field. Navas dribbled cutting in and had a crack near post that Friedel deflected away for a corner! The corner came to nothing though as Aston Villa regained possession. Right before half time Bosingwa earned a free kick after being nudged with the ball in prime position for Lampard to strike. Lampard stepped up to take the free kick. Brad Freidel dived at the ball and got a hand to it but to no avail as the ball’s momentum brought it into the back of the net putting Chelsea ahead 2-0 at the break! Nearing the hour mark Michael Ballack was subbed on by Big Phil for Deco. Just minutes after the play Joe Cole had a ball on the edge of the 18 very similar to the 7th minute play! This time instead of crossing he relinquished the ball to Bosingwa who was at the edge of the field. Bosingwa immediately crossed the ball not even taking a controlling touch. The cross found Drogba who did a bicycle kick!! GOAL!!!!!! What a spectacular goal!! Drogba now had a brace putting Chelsea in front 3-0! With 20 minutes to go Scolari made his second change choosing to bring Jesus Navas to the right wing and Joe Cole was taken out for Florent Malouda. Now with 7 minutes left in the game Chelsea was playing with a great air of confidence. It was now Malouda’s turn to take a cross. The cross flew across the box taking a bounce just on the far side of the 6 with Lampard rushing in; he smacked the ball into the goal all but completing a thrashing of the struggling Aston Villa. After the goal Marlon Harewood was brought into the game for Agbonlahor who had struggled to even get chances at goal. Villa would not go down without a goal though! They found their way into the attacking third and Harewood was taken down just outside the 18 by Ricardo Carvalho. Sidwell scored the free kick getting 1 against his old team and soon after the game ended. MATCH FACTS CHELSEA- A. VILLA 4-Goals-1 3-Assists-0 13-Shots-3 8-On Target-1 3-Fouls-3 0-Bookings-0 3-Corners-0 67%-Possession-33% 81%-Passing-80% Goals: 8’ Drogba 45’ Lampard 62’ Drogba 84’ Lampard 90’ Sidwell Assists: 8’ Lampard 62’ Bosingwa 84 Malouda Man of the Match Frank Lampard Goals/Assists- 2 Goals + 1 Assist Scolari Comments: I am extremely pleased with Frank’s performance today. First off in my mind is was either Frank or Didier but I had to go with Frank because of his help in creating the chances for goals. He passed the ball with precise control today and I am also extremely pleased with him for scoring twice during the match!
