Wenger Interview ![]() Arsene Wenger at the Press Conference today At the Press Conference today, Arsene Wenger revealed his season targets and comments as we sent our sky interviewer, Dan Broad down to Arsenal HQ to ask The frenchman some questions. Reporter: What would you say is a sucessfull season? Wenger: Well, a club like this needs to get into Europe, but I would also say that a club like this needs to win a trophy. Reporter: Arsenal haven't won the league since 2005. Do you think you can put up a serious challenge for the league this year? Wenger: Of Course, I think that all of the top teams have all improved and made some good signings and I think it will be extremely tight at the top. I think we have always dropped points against teams we should be beating, so our target this year is to pick up as many 'easy' points Reporter: You have been linked with Daniel Van Buyton in the press lately, what do you think of this? Wenger: These are only rumors, we haven't made any offers or even talked to any teams. We do have our targets, but these are private at this moment in time. Reporter: Do you think your squad could win the league this season? Wenger: Yes, but If I can capture my signing then we will be in for a good run Reporter: What is Arsenal's biggest problem? Wenger: Well I think we have a young squad which is great for the future, but I think we lack a bit of 'backbone' in the Midfield. I am looking to sign maybe 2 or 3 big players to strengthen the squad Reporter: Your first game is against Stoke City, what do you think the result will be?
Wenger: Well, I don't really know, you can never tell as sometimes teams have bad games or good games, I would expect our side to win, but I am expecting a very tough challenge from Stoke.

![]() V ![]() Arsenal v Stoke City Matchday 1 The Emirates Stadium + Arsenal Team News Eduardo (leg) is out for two months Emmanuel Adebayor starts up front Abou Diaby and Denilson start in Midfield Tomas Rosicky drops to the bench Samir Nasri makes his debut + Stoke City Team News Rory Delap and Seyi Olofinjana start in the centre of midfield Danny Pugh makes way for Amdy Faye Richard Creswell starts on the bench as Dave Kitson and Richardo Fuller start up front Andy Griffin captains side at right-back Tomas Sorensen starts in goal + Arsenal Line-Up 1. Almunia --------------------------- 3. Sagna -- 5. Toure -- 10. Gallas -- 22. Clichy --------------------------- 15. Denilson -- 4. Fabregas -- 2. Diaby -- 8. Nasri --------------------------- 11. Van Persie -- 25. Adebayor --------------------------- 21. Fabianski 20. Djourou 17. Song 7. Rosicky 16. Ramsey 14. Walcott 26. Bendtner + Stoke City Line-Up 29. Sorenson --------------------------- 2. Griffin -- 5. Cort -- 31. Dic|kson -- 4. Higginbottom ------------------------------ 7. Lawrence -- 24. Delap -- 4. Olofinjana -- 19. Faye -------------------------- 12. Kitson -- 10. Fuller ------------------------------ 1. Simonsen 17. Shawcross 33. Sonko 8. Soares 18. Diao 11. Sidibe 9. Creswell + Key Clash + Cesc Fabregas v Rory Delap The Arsenal playmaker will be looking to get forward into the attack and take on the Stoke defence to set up Adebayor and Van Persie, but Rory Delap's key role infront of the Stoke back-four will be vital for Stoke and Delap will need to be on top of his game to stop the Spanish Midfielder. When Rory Delap gets forward, he can cause Arsenal problems with his accurate passing and superb runs. Delap's long throw will also be a problem for Arsenal. + Prediction
Arsenal 2 - 0 Stoke City
