NO CAPTAIN DOESN'T MEAN NO RESULTS
ARSENAL 2-0 SUNDERLAND
Robin Van Persie 7', 83'

Robin Van Persie's goals and man of the match perfomance earned Arsenal a hard fought three points. In the Post match interview, Arsene Wenger revealed that they will name the new captain before the West Ham game after Gallas was stripped of the duty. Arsenal got their goal early on as Nasri's cross was headed by Van Persie, but the ball hit the bar and was headed by Nosworthy, Gordon couldn't react quick enough after Nosworthy's header and Van Persie has a simple tap-in. Arsenal's set pieces were limited as Sunderland went for a clean game, that didn't stop Nosworthy, who fouled Adebayor and recieved the only booking. Sunderland hit back, but Upson's vital header stopped El-Hadji Diouf from scoring after Almunia's save from a Malbranque effort. Adebayor was then put through by Fabregas, but Adebayor's shot was superbly saved by Craig Gordon. Sunderland must have been pleased with their performance in the first half.

The second half started brightly for the home side as they looked to increase their lead, Cesc Fabregas's long range effort had Gordon praying after it manged to hit both posts after the deflection from Chimbonda. Emmanuel Eboue then hit the bar after his header from an Afellay cross skimmed the bar before going over. Sunderland tried to get back into the game, but when El-Hadji Diouf's penalty was saved by Almunia, Sunderland just gave up, and that showed in the second goal. Emmanuel Adebayor managed to break free, and all the Sunderland players didn't bother tracking back to help Gordon, Adebayor squared it to Van Persie, who scored his second open-goal of the match. Carlos Edwards came on to try and revive Sunderland, but he only missed the shot of the match from 6 yards after breaking through 2 tackles. Arsenal now have West Ham, who lost to title contenders Liverpool 7-4, Arsenal will really have to play well under the new captain if they are going to have a chance of hammering the Hammers.

CLICHY NAMED PERMANENT SKIPPER

At the Press Conference today, Arsenal defender Gael Clichy was named as the permanent Arsenal captain by Arsene Wenger. Wenger has high ambitions of the Frenchman and believes he will be a superb captain and role model for the younger players. Clichy, 23, said this, "It is a great achievment to be named captain of a club that I have dreamed of playing for. I would like to thank Arsene Wenger because of his belief in me and I hope I can do justice to that". Clichy's first game in charge as captain will be against West Ham, who are currently in the relegation zone, but the Arsenal manager doesn't believe it will be as easy as it looks on paper, he said "West Ham are a great footballing side and can easily score from any opportunity, Gianfranco Zola is doing a superb job there, and I can see them giving us a tough battle. We are the favourties, but I won't let my players think we are". ex-Arsenal players Tony Adams, David Seaman and Ray Parlour all agree with the decison and all believe Clichy was the best choice.

Clichy the captain eh? That's original, sounds like he has the right attitude as well

DIABY HANDS IN TRANSFER REQUEST

Abou Diaby has handed in a transfer request due to his long term injury. Diaby has been out for 2 months now, and is looking to get back in action, but superb performances from Denilson and Emmanuel Eboue suggest that Diaby won't get his place back. The transfer window doesn't open for 2 months, but Diaby is unhappy at Arsenal has handed in his transfer request. Diaby's agent said this on Diaby's behalf, "Abou Diaby believes that his chances of first-team football are limited and would like to make a new start. He hasn't started for two months because of injury and would like to move to a club where he is guarenteed a place". Aston Villa, Everton and Manchester City have expressed interest in the midfielder and have all placed their price tags on the midfielder. Abou Diaby won't leave if the price tags given by the interested teams doesn't meet the price tag of Arsenal. Arsenal have West Ham as their next game, and Arsene Wenger said that Diaby will take no part because of the performances Denilson and Eboue have been making.

Hey Guys, I've already played the West Ham game, so I won't do a preview, it is a pretty boring game, do you want report or box score?
