![]() Transfer Market: Mariners Sign Premier Talent (Fulham Right Back Chris Baird) Grimsby Town Football Club have this morning announced a major signing, snapping up Fulham right back Chris Baird. The Northern Irish international is believed to have requested the transfer after a recent lack of playing time, and officials from the club met with him on Thursday. The negotiations were said to be quick and easy, with both parties agreeing on a fee of $525,000 for his services. After arriving at Grimsby Towns training field earlier this morning, Craig took the time to speak briefly with our reporter Sarah Anderson. "Im really excited by the move because it means i will have a lot more time on the pitch, which i wasn't getting in London. "I have already spoken to the coach and a few of the players, and they are all really great people. "I cant wait to see some of the fans on Saturday evening, i have heard that they put on quite an atmosphere up here". When asked if there were any other things that influenced his decision, he revealed that his family played a big part in the move. "My wife and daughter are happy to be getting away from the hustle and bustle of London, this is a lovely little community and it will be a great place for my daughter to grow up in. ![]() (For Club And Country: Chris Baird Has Made 33 Senior Appearances For Northern Ireland Since 2003) In a website interview with Grimsby Town manager Dennis Wise, it was announced that Chris would indeed be in the lineup to play Wycombe in the Carling cup. "Craig is a great player and i have every intention of giving him his debut this weekend. "He is the type of player that i want at right back, a very strong tackler and he reads the game exceptionally well. "I think a lot of people really underestimate what he can do, i have watched him at Fulham and for Northern Ireland and he is a very solid player. "I think the fans will take to him really well, he is a nice guy to talk to and has settled in really well so far" In other transfer news, it has been reported that Dennis Wise is looking to sign another Northern Irish defender, after visiting the national teams training ground to watch the under 21 team in action against Scotland last Tuesday. (More Ulstermen On The Way? Dennis Wise Reportedly Watched The Northern Irish Under 21 Team Play Last Tuesday) It has also been reported that a player from Hearts could possibly be Lincolnshire bound, after Grimsby Town scouts were seen at the Scottish clubs recent home game against Dundee United. Dennis Wise said in an interview recently that he would be attempting to make at least three more signings before the close of the window, and with the signing of Chris Baird many are speculating that the two remaining signings are imminent. More as we here it. Dylan Osgood, GTFCTV.

![]() GTFCTV: Wise's Word ![]() Welcome to Wise's Word, our latest segment where Dennis Wise answers all of our questions on the recent events concerning Grimsby Town Football Club!. Hello Dennis, welcome to our first installment of Wise's word! Hey Dylan, thanks for the invite. Okay lets get things underway, first of all do you have any message for the fans? I certainly do, i would like to thank them for there superb support so far, they really have made my transition here quite smooth and i appreciate it. Coming to a new club is so tough because you are in unfamiliar surroundings, but being in such a small area were the mariners are the only team that folks support helps so much, everyone around the town always recognizes me and says hello, and i stop to chat with them whenever i can. We have had two home games and two away games so far, the fans at blundell park are always loud and for a small club we take quite a large number of fans to away games. They are the life blood of the club, they have poured years and years of there time and money into the mariners and not had much success of late, but they remain committed and hopefully i can repay all of there support with some silverware. How has Andy Taylor been coping with the injury? Last time we spoke you were quite fired up about it! Well i still am fired up about it, it was a horrible tackle and the ref should have spotted it, but its in the past now so we have to get over it. Andy has been coping well, he is on crutches after having surgery but he still hobbles around the training ground and helps whenever he can, he is not the type of person to just sit there, so he follows me around and has become a bit of a personal assistant i guess (laughs) But no in all honesty he is a great help at the training ground, and he has said to me that he will be fighting to get fit and get back out there. Have the new signings settled in well? What did you think of there performances against Accrington? The new lads have settled in well, Danny did not play on the weekend as he needs a bit of time to get settled in, but Peter (Whittingham) and Steven (Thompson) we're fantastic, i thought Steveies goal especially was really great. All three of them have been taken to the fans well, and have settled into the town quite nicely. Young Peter is flatting with Andy Taylor who kindly offered to give him a place to stay, and Steven and his wife have purchased a lovely little property. Do you have plans for any more signings? A couple of offers have been made and im quite confident of getting who i want, but at this stage i cant say who im bringing in for obvious reasons. We have had a financial setback having to bring in a replacement striker, but that does not mean that Steven (Thompson) was not a good signing, he has settled in well and i intend to hang on to him for at least the remainder of his contract. But because of making the unplanned signing, it means i have had to sacrifice one or two targets i had in mind, but hopefully when the January window arrives the board will give me a bit to play with. Okay Dennis, thank you so much for your time, i look forward to speaking to you again in a few weeks No worries mate, i look forward to the next segment. To our fans i hope to see you all at the next game, and now im off to the butchers to pick up tea (laughs) Cheers Dennis, im Dylan Osgood, signing off for GTFCTV!

Delph would not leave Elland Road for a team located a division below where he currently plays, particularly with so many clubs in the top flight interested in securing his services.
