Liverpool FC-Fields of Anfield Road ![]() For years, Liverpool have been part of the big four, consisting of them, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United. Since the Premiership was created, Liverpool have never won the Premiership, something which they want to acheive this season, because they have the squad to do so. This is Liverpool's season. Basic Information Name: Liverpool Football Club Nickname: The Reds Founded: 1892 Chairmen: Tom Hicks and George Gillett Manager: Rafael Benitez Captain: Steven Gerrard Vice-Captain: Jamie Carragher League: Barclays Premier League 2007-2008: Barclays Premier League-4th History After an argument between Everton F.C ad the leaseholder of Anfield, John Houlding, over rent, Liverpool F.C were founded by Houlding to play at the vacant Anfield, with Everton playing at Goodison Park. Liverpool won 2 successive promotions, after winning the Lancashire League, and after successfully applying for a place in the Second Division, they were promoted at the first attempt. In 1959, dynasty took over Liverpool F.C. His name, was Bill Shankley. He began, by releasing 24 players from their duties, and began to rebuild the squad. After suffering relegation in 1953-54 season, Shankly got them promoted back to the first tier in the 1961-62 season, and that followed by a First Division title in 1963-64, and another followed two seasons later. 1965-66. They also won their first F.A Cup in 1965. Liverpool completed the double in 1973, by winning the League and the UEFA Cup. That season, Shankly retired, and was replaced by Bob Paisley, his assistant. In 1975-76, Paisley won the same double that Shankly won, the League and the UEFA Cup. The next season. Liverpool were even more succesful, in only Paisley's 3rd year in charge. They won the League title, won the European Cup, beating Borrusia Mochengladbach in the final, and narrowly lost in the final of the F.A Cup, Manchester United defeating them 2-1, infront of a massive 100,000 crowd at Wembley. Paisley retired in 1983, winning a bundle of trophies, and the only cup he didn't win, was the F.A Cup. Then, Paisley passed on the Manager's job to Joe Fagan, his Assistant in his stint as Manager. Liverpool won the Treble in Fagan's first season in charge, winning the League, the League Cup, and the European Cup. But, at the European Cup Final, in 1985, against Juventus, at Heysal, Brussels, there was a major disaster. Before kick-off, Liverpool fans breached a fence, separating them from the Juventus fans. The weight of the people, caused a retaining wall to collapse, killing 39 people, who were mostly Italians. Liverpool lost that match 1-0, with Michel Platini scoring a penalty for Juventus. English clubs were banned for 5 years for Liverpool's involvment with the disaster, Liverpool were banned for 10 years, but it was then reduced to 6 years. Club legend Kenny Dalgleish was named as player-manager, after Fagan resigned after the disaster. They won the double in 1985-86, but all there success in the 80's was overshadowed by another disaster, the Hillsborough Disaster. It was the F.A Cup Semi-Final, against Nottingham Forest, in which 96 people died, in a crush in the Leppings Lane End, with a report of the crush saying that the main reason for the disaster was the police's failiure to control the fans, which led to overcrowding. Dalgliesh resigned in 1991, blaiming the fallout of Hillsborough for his resignation. He was replaced by former player Graeme Souness, who acheived little success, only winning the F.A Cup in 1992, and ws replaced by Roy Evans, who didn't do well, only winning the League Cup, in 1995. Gerard Houllier was appointed Co-Manager at the start of the 1998-99 season, but Evans resigned in November that season, leaving Houllier on his own as manager. Houllier was a succesful manager, and acheived a unique treble, of the F.A Cup, beating Arsenal 2-1 in the Final, thanks to youngster Michael Owen firing 2 late goals past Arsenal keeper David Seamen. In the League Cup, Birmingham, in the Football League Division 1 at the time, took them to Extra-Time, and penalties. Robbie Fowler opened the scoring for Liverpool in the first-half, but Darren Purse equalised for the Blues in the 90th minute. Liverpool went on to win 5-4 on penalties. In the UEFA Cup, they defeated Alaves 5-4 after Extra Time. In extra-time, Gary McAllister whipped in a free-kick, and Alaves defender Delfi Geli headed the ball into his own net, in the 115th minute, giving Liverpoool the win via Golden Goal. In the 2004-05 season, Houllier was replaced by Rafael Benitez, and although Liverpool finished 5th in his first season in charge, they defeated AC Milan 3-2 on penalties in the final of the UEFA Champions League, there 5th time winning it, meaning they got to keep the trophy. The following season, they defeated West Ham United on penalties in the F.A Cup final, after the game finished 3-3 in normal time, after Steven Gerrard scored a 35 yard effort in the 90th minute of the game. In the 2006-07 season, there search for investment culminated, with Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks taking over, which valued the club at £218.9 Million. That season, Liverpool lost in the UEFA Champions League final, to AC Milan, 2-1. Stadium-Anfield ![]() Anfield is a Professional Football stadium in Liverpool, England, which is home to Liverpool F.C. It has a capacity of 45,362, and The Reds have played there since 1892. Anfield is a UEFA 4 star-rated stadium, and it has 4 stands, the Spion Kop, Main Stand, Centenary Stand, and Anfield Road.
