Manager Info

Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson was born in Glasgow, Scotland on the 31st of December 1941. He is the current manager of Manchester United FC. He is considered to the best manager in football history and has won more trophies that any other manager in English football. He has won manager of the month most times in British football History.

He started off his playing career at Queens Park as an amateur. He made his debut as a striker aged only 16. He managed to score but Queens Park lost that game 2-1 to Stanraer. He scored 20 goals in 31 games for Queens Park but didn’t make it into the first team and moved to St. Johnstone in 1960. He regularly wanted to move because of lack of games but in a match against Rangers he started because St. Johnstone didn’t have another striker to pick and Sir Alex managed to score a hat-trick. This grabbed the interest of Dunfermline and they signed him in the summer of 1964. In the 1965-66 season he managed to score 45 goals in 51 appearances and finished top scorer in the league with 31 goals.

In 1967, he joined Rangers for £65,000 and record fee between 2 Scottish clubs at the time. In 1969 he was blamed for the goal they conceded in the Scottish cup final and was forced to play with the youth team. His brother said he was so upset that he threw away his losers medal. The following OctoberNottinghamForest wanted to sign him but he didn’t want to move so he went to Falkirk instead. There he was promoted to player coach but when John Prentice was appointed manager he removed Ferguson’s coaching responsibilities. He then requested a transfer and went to Ayr United and he finished his playing career there in 1974

In June 1974, he was appointed manager of East Stirlingshire when he was only 32. It was only a part-time job but he earned £40 a week. A big problem at the club was they had no Keeper. But he gained the respect of all the players and improved the results considerably improved but in October he was offered the job at St. Mirren. He was manager at St. Mirren from 1974 to 1978 and brought them from the bottom half of the second division to first division champions in 1977. The average of the side was only 19 and the captain was 20. St. Mirren then became the only club to sack Sir Alex Ferguson because they said that he had made a number of contract breaches.

Ferguson then joined Aberdeen as manager in June 1978. He was very unlucky in the first couple of years and he lost the League cup final twice. Aberdeen started the season poorly but then improved dramatically in the new year and won the league on the final day with a 5-0 win. He then won the Scottish cup in 1982 and was offered the job at Wolves but turned it down because he said that he hadn’t done all that he wanted do at Aberdeen. Ferguson then led Aberdeen to even greater success the next year. They had qualified for the European Cup Winner’s cup by winning the Scottish cup the previous season. They managed to knock out Bayern Munich which gave them the confidence to go on and win the competition. They beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the final on the 11th of May 1983. He was offered the job at Tottenham and Arsenal during the season but he took over from Ron Atkinson in November 1986.

He was appointed Manager of Manchester United on the 5th November 1986. In his first season in charge he led Man Utd to an 11th place finish. His only away win that season was a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield. 3 weeks after he was appointed manager his mother Elizabeth died of lung cancer aged 64. Ferguson appointed Archie Knox his assistant at United. The 1987-88 season Man Utd finished 2nd nine points behind Liverpool, after signing a couple of big players such as Steve Bruce. During the 1988-89 season, Man Utd played the Bermudan National Team and Somerset cricket club in this match Knox and Ferguson both played. This is Ferguson’s only appearance for the Man Utd first team. After a very poor run of form, It was suspected that if Ferguson lost against NottinghamForest in the FA cup that he would be sacked but Man Utd managed to win the match and ended up making it to the final. Man Utd won the match against CrystalPalace 1-0 and it was Ferguson’s first major trophy at United. He won his first League trophy in the 1992-93 season and were the first team to win the Premier League. In 1993-94 Ferguson won his first double with Man Utd and second in his career. In between 1994 and 1999 Man Utd won 11 trophies capped off by winning an amazing treble in 1999.

United had a barren run from 2001-2006 where Man Utd only managed to win 4 trophies. But in 2006-07 season Man Utd beat Chelsea to the title who had been dominating since the arrival of Russian Tycoon Roman Abramovich. Man Utd failed to win the double that season because of a late goal from Didier Drogba in FA Cup final. Man Utd did do the double last season when they won the League on the last day and won the Champions League in a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Chelsea. Man Utd capped off a very good year in December 2008 when they won the World club championship against LDU Quito to crown United the best team in the world.

Great Start Shorty. The Manchester United threads seemed to have died down.

I think it will take some work, but will pay off....go back into Calendar and just write out a list of your games, the table, the scorers, clean sheets and Man United's player stats eg...Goals, Assists and all that!

it will take time but you could start it from the start of the 4th season or the 3rd season.

So you could have a reivew of the last seasons.

Default Half-Time Report

The Story So Far...

^Rooney has been the main driving force of Man Utd this season^

August
Man Utd started the season very well taking 9 points from a possible 12 and winning the Community shield. Man Utd won the FA Community Shield in a 6-1 trashing of Aston Villa last season's runner up in the league.Man Utd brought this good form into their first home match of the season against Sheffield Utd. They won that match 5-1. They then had 2 big games back to back, Arsenal and Chelsea. Man Utd beat Arsenal 3-0 but couldn't produce the goods against Chelsea and lost 2-1. They rounded off the month with a convincing 3-1 win at home against Blackburn Rovers.

September
Man Utd started September the same way as August scoring 6 goals in a match. They then had another good performance and won 5-1 against Bolton at the Reebok. Sir Alex played his reserves against Bournemouth in the Carling Cup 2nd round and it payed off as Man Utd won 2-1 at Old Trafford. Man Utd took maximum points in the League in September and finished off the month with a 3-0 win at home to QPR and a 4-0 win at Eastlands in the Manchester Derby. They also got their Champions League campaign off to a good start with a 3-2 at Home to Juventus but a dissappointing 0-0 draw with Rapid Wein.

October
They started off the month well again, which was becoming a habit for United, with a 4-0 win at Home against Wigan. United produced another very good performance against Middlesboro' away from home and won comfortably. They also eased past West Brom in the Carling Cup beating them 5-0. Man Utd won comfortably at home to Fulham but could only manage a 1-0 win at Upton Park against West Ham. Champions League qualification was hanging in the balance after a 2-2 with Anderlecht. Man Utd finished off the month with a 2-0 win at White Hart Lane against Tottenham

November
Man Utd scraped past Sheffield Utd in the Carling Cup 4th round with a nervy 1-0 win. Man Utd sucured Champions League qualification with their biggest win of the season so far, a 7-0 thumping of Anderlecht at home revenge for the draw in October. Man Utd then brought that form into a league match with Liverpool and trashed them 4-0. They scored 4 goals the next week aswell winning 4-0 away at Reading. Man Utd had another big win at home in November this time it was a 6-0 win against Crystal Palace. This was a fabulous month for Man Utd winning 5 matches out of 5, not conceding a single goal and scoring a total of 22 goals.

December
The month started well for United but ended up being the worst month of the season so far for United. They started the month with a convincing win against Rapid Wein. But then Man Utd came up against their bogey team, Everton. Man Utd were losing 3-0 in this match but nearly managed a draw but they could only pull back two goals in the last 10 mins. They bounced back well though winning 4-1 away from home to Juventus to secure top spot in the group. Man Utd only managed a 1-0 win at home to Portsmouth but then beat Aston Villa 4-2 the next week. Man Utd then knocked Arsenal out of the Carling Cup, in the Quater-Finals, 4-2. Arsenal got revenge though as they beat Man Utd 6-3 on Christmas Day.

Can Man Utd continue this good form and win the league for the 5th time in a row
