Default Sheffield Utd 0-5 Man Utd

^Tevez celebrating after his goal^

Sir Alex Ferguson as always made a few changes to the side. This week he brought Rooney back in for Tevez, Park for Giggs and Hargreaves retained his place after scoring 2 goals last week. Man United came into this game being strong favourites since Sheffield United hadn’t won a single game this season and we were at the end of February.

Rooney grabbed a goal on his return to first team action. Park played a brilliant through ball down the wing for Rooney and with no defenders around him cut inside and curled a shot into the top corner. 1-0 Man United with only 8 minutes gone.

Man United extended their lead 6 minutes later when Rooney turned provider this time. He was the one to play the through ball. Berbatov chipped the ball over the keeper and gave Man United a 2-0 lead.

Ronaldo had his goal in the 39th minute. Berbatov backheeled the ball into the path of Ronaldo and he drove the ball under Kenny. Ronaldo got his second of the match in the 60th minute. He ran across the box then smashed the ball across the keeper and into the net.

Tevez rounded off a very good win in the 72nd minute when Nani ran down the wing then passed it across the box to Tevez who tapped it into an empty net

You should beat Real Madrid, and then you can afford to play a weaker side against Fulham in order to have a stronger one for the Madrid 2nd leg.

Default R. Madrid 0-2 Man Utd

^Michael Carrick was all smiles after scoring^

Man United came into this match expecting a hostile environment because of the Ronaldo saga and everything else. Sir Alex decided to play Tevez; another player linked with Madrid, upfront with Rooney and chose Anderson over Hargreaves in the middle of the park.

Man United got just what they wanted in the first 5 minutes, an away goal. Tevez received the ball in Real Madrid’s half and ran at the defence. The defenders just kept backing away from him and Tevez unleashed a shot that went right into the bottom corner giving Casillas no chance.

But 2 minutes later disaster struck for Man United. Ronaldo had to go off with an injury after a crunching tackle from Robben. After the match Ronaldo said that he would never join Madrid now since it is quite obvious that they don’t want him. Nani was brought on to replace Ronaldo.

In the 35th minute, Man United extended their Lead when Heinze brought down Nani in the box. The referee pointed straight to the spot but with no Ronaldo it was Carrick that stepped up and slotted the penalty into the left-hand corner.

Man United didn’t have the most possession but the two centre backs were very solid and forced Real take long range shots which didn’t trouble Van Der Sar

Default Man Utd 5-1 R. Madrid

^Ronaldo got revenge for injuring him last match^

Man United came into this came with a 2-0 aggregate lead over Real Madrid and most people were expecting United to just close the game out. With the 2-0 lead in mind Sir Alex Ferguson decided to rest some of his first team regulars for this game. He replaced Ferdinand with John O’Shea, and Anderson and Hargreaves went into CM. He also gave a rare start to David Villa who is being rumoured to leave the club in the summer.

Heinze knew that he was in for a tough match right from the off when both Gary Neville and Ronaldo kept pushing up down that wing and to make things worse for himself he got booked in the first 5 minutes.

Man United took the lead in the 38th minute when Ronaldo went on a dribble into the box the and easily beat Casillas with a shot into the left hand corner of the net.

Rooney doubled the lead on the stroke of Half-time when Ronaldo got the ball from a throw in and floated a ball over Casillas to the back post for Rooney to nod into the net.

Real Madrid managed to pull a goal back 3 minutes into the second half when O’Shea headed the ball back into the middle of the box and Torres tapped the ball in. It was the first goal Van Der Sar had conceded in 7 hours and 15 minutes.

Ronaldo then extended Man United’s lead again with a trade mark free kick that went straight into the top corner

After this goal Man United piled on the pressure and scored another in the 71st minute to secure a ¼ final place. Anderson played a chip through ball to Rooney and he brought it down before volleying it in off the post.

Villa then capped off a very good day for United with a goal in the 90th minute. Anderson faked a shot but instead played the ball to Villa and he placed the ball into the corner with a first time shot.
