I think its only a groin strain or a bruised foot and I think that its only this match he'll be missing for but he might miss the one after that aswell

Thanks and hopefully it is my first start of the season. I'm only playing because I loaned Welbeck out

^Man Utd - Carling Cup Winners 2012^

This was the match the that Sir Alex Ferguson had been calling the biggest match of the season. That was because Sir Alex was desperate to get his hands on the Carling Cup again, the cup which he had only managed to win 3 times before. He named John O'Shea the captain of a second string United side as he looked to extend Man United's unbeaten streak to 49 games in all competitions.

The first clear cut chance of the match fell to Middlesborough after 19 minutes. Mido was set through on goal but tried to be too fancy with his finish as he tried to chip the keeper and Foster plucked the ball out of the air. This chance seemed to be the wake up call that United needed because before that they were very nervous and weren't willing to go forward.

Man United's first chance of the game came a few minutes later. It was a cross to O'Brien on the far post for the volley but he couldn't get the power behind the shot and ended it up being an easy gather for the keeper. O'Brien had nearly an identical chance a few minutes later and this time he made the keeper work harder. Ji Sung Park crossed the ball towards the far post and O'Brien met it with a powerful volley but Jones just managed to get a hand onto it and tipped it onto the bar.

The teams went into half-time all level after a very uneventful first half. Both teams looked very nervous and were afraid to try and attack. With 20 minutes gone in the second half, Sir Alex Ferguson decided to bring on a more experinced player to try and get on the ball and control the tempo of the game as Hargreaves replaced Anderson.

Just after that subsitution, Rafael conceded a free kick on the edge of the box. Stewart Downing whipped the ball into the box and caused a load of confusion in the United area. The ball eventually found its way to Mido and he slotted the ball past the keeper and into the corner of the net.

With only 15 minutes left on the clock, Sir Alex decided to go all out for the equaliser and he brought on Rooney for O'Brien. Man United continued to push for the equaliser but it looked like they wouldn't have enough and the Carling Cup would get away from them once again but deep in stoppage time United got a corner.

All of the players came up for the corner for one last push. Nani lobbed the ball into the middle of the box, Evans headed the ball towards the goal, it was just going wide until Rooney got a toe to the ball and it came back into play off the post. The ball ended up at the feet of Ben Foster and he smashed the ball into the net for the equaliser.

Both teams were very tired but had to go through another 30 minutes because of Foster's late goal. This is when United had the advantage because their players were only subsitutes. In the 109th minute, United took the lead. Park crossed the ball into the box, Miguel Veloso headed it goalwards but it was blocked on the line. It only went out was far was Rooney and he volleyed the ball in from 6 yards.

Man United managed to hold on and win their 4th ever Carling Cup!!!
