Man Utd came into this came reeling from a 4-3 defeat by Stoke in the FA Cup and were looking for a win to gain some confidence. Sir Alex Ferguson chose Rafael over Gary Neville because Brazilians have a knack of keeping other Brazilians quiet during matches.

Berbatov gave Man United the lead with only 9’ minutes gone when Ferdinand brought the ball forward before laying it right into Berbatov’s path who easily slotted it into the far corner. He extended United’s lead in the 23rd minute. With Richards and Dunne on his back it looked like Berbatov could go any where but he quickly turned and beat both defenders before smashing the ball into the top corner.

He completed his hat-trick in the 28th minute. Ronaldo crossed the ball into the box and Rooney flicked it to the back post and Berbatov nodded it into the net.

Rooney got a controversial goal in the 37th minute when Rooney blocked Joe Hart’s dropkick and just tapped the ball into an empty net. Berbatov added another just before half-time with a header to and Ronaldo scored another one just on the stroke of half-time when he slid the ball under Hart. Man United went into half-time with a 6-0 lead.

Johnson managed to pull one back for City from a corner. He headed it right into the top corner of the net and soon after Jo scored another consolation goal when he got onto the end of a long ball and volleyed it past Van Der Sar

Rooney then restored United’s 5 goal lead in the 72nd minute when he got one-on-one with the goalkeeper and smashed it past him. The game ended 7-2 to United.

Sir Alex Ferguson had to make a rash decision just before the match as Berbatov was carried off in the warm up before the match but Berbatov is likely to be fit for the West Ham match. This led to Ferguson putting Ben Foster up front with Rooney and it became a very good decision. Also Rafael retained his place after a good job marking Robinho in the Manchester Derby.

This was a very tight match with United not carrying a big attacking threat because of the loss of Berbatov and no sub striker on the bench because of Tevez being injured as well.

Ronaldo came the closest in the first half from a free-kick on the edge of the box but the shot rebounded off the crossbar.

Man United upped the tempo in the second half and got their goal in the 67th minute Foster received the ball on the half way line and played a beautiful through ball to Ronaldo who dribbled into the box and slid the ball into the far corner.

They sealed the win the 82nd minute when Foster played a one-two with Rooney on the edge of the box and Rooney smashed it past Gomes

Sir Alex Ferguson made a lot of changes coming into this match, 5 in total from the Spurs match and it might be giving Sir Alex selection problems for his next match. He brought in Berbatov, Hargreaves, Tevez, Neville, and Veloso.

Man United were quick to open the scoring and in the 20th minute Berbatov broke away from the defence and smashed the ball into the bottom corner. You would have been forgiven if you had thought it was Rooney.

Hargreaves extended United’s lead on the stroke of half-time when he sprinted into the box and powered a header past Green. Amazingly Man United grabbed another before half-time. Berbatov was one-on-one with Green but suddenly stopped, Green came rushing out and Berbatov chipped the ball over Green and into the net.

Dean Ashton nearly pulled a goal back for West Ham but his long range shot rebounded off the post and back into the play. Giggs added another in the 66th minute when he got one-on-one with Green and slid it under him to give him a rare goal.

Hargreaves then got his second of the day when he was brought down in the box. Hargreaves got up and scored the penalty.

Tevez then got his goal in the 90th minute when Berbatov unselfishly rolled the ball across the box to Tevez to tap the ball into an empty net
