Man United came into this match hot favourites but knew that they would have to work very hard against a tough Portsmouth. The last time these two teams met, Man United came out 5-3 winners but had to come back from 3-1 down with only 30 minutes remaining.

It didn't take Man United very long for them to get off the mark. The goal came from Rooney after a sublime pass. Scholes had the ball in the centre circle before chipping it over the whole Pompey defence, Wayne Rooney ran onto to it and from 25 yards he hit it on the half-volley into the bottom corner of the net.

Tevez missed a glaring chance in the 24th minute to put United 2-0 up. Rooney had the ball on the wing, cut in onto his right foot and smashed the ball goalwards. Ashdown managed to save it but the ball fell to Tevez, he couldn't take advantage as he couldn't keep his volley down.

He made up for the miss in the 37th minute when he got his name on the score sheet. He dribbled the ball into the box past a couple Portsmouth defenders and just when it looked like he would get tackled by Campbell, he smashed the ball across the face of the goal before being clattered into by Sol Campbell.

Man United went into the dressing rooms with a comfortable lead. Ben Foster and his defenders had very little to do in the first half because Portmouth just couldn't cope with United's passing play.

Jamie Ashdown had to make a fantastic save at the beginning of the second half to deny Tevez his second goal of the match. The ball was crossed right onto the head of Tevez by Rooney but Tevez couldn't convert because of an excellent save.

Man United sealed their place in the 4th round in the 60th minute after a brilliant piece of link up play between Rooney and Tevez. Nani had the ball on the wing and drove the ball across the face of the goal for Rooney. He dummied it though and it went to Tevez for him to tap into an empty net.

Scholes put the icing on the cake in the 90th minute. Nani crossed the ball into the box from the right wing and he found little Paul Scholes unmarked on the penalty spot, then like a centre forward Scholes just cushioned the ball back to where it came from and into the top corner. The score could have been alot bigger if Ashdown wasn't in goal as he made some fantastic saves during the match to deny United.

I'm surprised Nani got a rating of 10 without scoring, I usually find I need a player either to make loads of saves or score a few goals to get 10.

Yeah me too but all of Nani's crosses found their man and from most of them the player scored

Probably got all the assists then. I got a 9 with Ronaldo for 1 assist, 100% shots OT and 4/5 dribbles completed.
