Default Man Utd 2-0 Wigan

^Michael Carrick gave Man Utd the lead in the 32nd minute^

Pre-Match: Man United must have had the memories of the last match against Wigan in the back of their minds going out into this match in which they lost to them 2-1. They would have to clear their minds of all thoughts, go out into the “Theatre Of Dreams” and play their socks off for their team. Foster, Rafael, Anderson and Park all came into the team for this match and replaced Van Der Sar, Neville, Scholes and Giggs. The more experienced players’ legs probably needed a rest after playing most of the games this season.

The first half was the most entertaining half you’ll ever see but Man United did play well and forced a few good saves out of Chris Kirkland. The half did see the most important thing for United and that was a goal. Ronaldo had the ball on the wing and dribbled into the box he got to the bi-line before pulling the ball back to Carrick and he slotted the ball past the keeper into the far corner.

The chances for Wigan in this match were few and far between and didn’t make Foster work too hard. Man United went into half-time 1-0 up but would be slightly disappointed that they weren’t ahead by more because of all the possession and chances they had.

United extended their lead in the 51st minute with a goal of the season candidate. The ball was played to Anderson and he passed it to Rooney, he took it past one defender before smashing it into the top corner. It was amazing how he got so much power into it and he was nearly at a stand still. Chris Kirkland did get a finger to it but just couldn’t get enough on it to stop it from flying into the top corner.

Carrick and Rooney both had very good chances to grab their second goals of the afternoon. Rooney’s came on the 70th minute. The ball was passed around in the middle of the bar before being slid into the path of Rooney he tried to just dink the ball over the keeper but Kirkland got just enough on it and tipped it onto the bar.

Carrick’s chance was a harder one but he still went very close. He had the ball on the edge of the box and hit the ball very sweetly but it went a yard wide of the post. Wigan started to push forward in the final minutes trying to grab a consolation goal but just couldn’t and United ran out 2-0 winners.

Default Reading 1-7 Man Utd

^Wayne Rooney scored 4 goals today in a good performance^

The last meeting of these two teams brought about United’s last loss. That was a whole 30 games ago and United are close to beating Arsenal’s record of 49 but that was only in the league. Man United brought back Giggs, Scholes and Neville for Park, Anderson and Rafael. Foster also retained his place in the team and Fletcher replaced Carrick in the middle of the park.

United went as close as you can go without scoring in the 6th minute. Tevez had the ball on the edge of the box, he turned and laid the ball out to Ronaldo. He took the shot on first time but the ball hit the outside of the post and went out for a goal kick to Reading.

3 minutes later United were ahead. Fletcher had the ball in the centre circle, he was taken down by Murty but just before he was tackled he played a beautiful ball into the path of Rooney and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner and put United 1-0 up.

United extended their lead 4 minutes later, Rooney crossed the ball to the back post, Tevez met it with his head and it flew into the top corner. The shot left Hannemahn flat footed who was running towards the back post to catch the cross.

In the 28th minute, Rooney got his second of the match. Man United broke quickly from a Reading attack. He was one-on-one with Hannemahn and he smashed the ball into the back of the net via the post. Ronaldo hit the post for the second time in the match in the 32nd minute. He cut in from the right wing and took a shot with the outside of his foot but it hit the inside of the post and went across the face of the goal before being cleared.

Reading got a goal just before half-time after a defensive mix-up. Foster caught the ball from a tame shot and tried to get a quick break under way but Vidic had turned his back on the ball and Doyle snuck in and slotted the ball into an empty net. United went into half-time 3-1 up and were cruising, Reading had been lucky to get that goal.

Man United hit the post again at the start of the second half. Tevez dribbled the ball past the Reading defenders and he tried to curl the ball around the keeper but the ball hit the foot of the post and went out of play. Rooney had a lot of chances to get his hat-trick but his finishing let him down. He finally got his third goal of the match in the 57th minute. Tevez got past the Reading defenders once more and was one-on-one with Hannemahn but saw Rooney in a better position and slid the ball to him and he tucked the ball away and completed his hat-trick.

After waiting so long for his 3rd goal Rooney got his 4th 5 minutes after his 3rd. The ball was played into his path and he just dinked the ball over the keeper and put United 5-1 up. Ronaldo finally got his goal in the 75th minute. He cut in from the right wing as he had done so much this season and slotted the ball under Hannemahn with the outside of his foot.

After that goal Man United started to make a few changes. Sir Alex Ferguson decided to rest the aging legs of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs for Ji-SungPark and Anderson. This substitution paid off in the 82nd minute, Tevez had the ball, and into the box and again showed his unselfishness to cut the ball back to Anderson and he poked the ball into the net for his first of the season. He will be happy to get his first of the season since he had to wait until the second last game for his first goal last season.

Thanks, that's like Anderson's 5th goal because he only scores about 1 each season

Man Utd stick to the exact same team as the one that beat W. Bremen 7-0 as Sir Alex hopes to put on another comanding performance infront of the Old Trafford faithful.
