Team Changes: Man United came into this match on a high after knocking Blackburn out of the Carling Cup in midweek. Van Der Sar returned in goal as Man United brought back a lot of their first team players. A number of players retained their places in the team after good performances in the last match. Evans started at centre back again but Pique wasn’t as lucky and he was left out of the squad. Rafael and Anderson also retained their places in the team at the expense of Neville and Scholes. Tevez started upfront with Rooney again after a good scoring run. Evra, Ferdinand, Carrick, Giggs, Ronaldo and Rooney all returned to the team.

It didn’t take United long for them to be in the lead. Ronaldo was brought down in the box and the referee pointed straight to the spot. Ronaldo stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way and put United 1-0 up with only 16 minutes gone. 10 minutes later and United were two up. Ronaldo had the ball in the box and took a shot and it was saved by the keeper but it fell to Rooney and he took one touch before smashing the ball into the back of the net.

On the stroke of half-time Man United went 3-0 up. Ronaldo was brought down in the box for the second time in the match and the result was the same. The keeper managed to guess right this time but still got no where near the ball. Man United went into half-time 3-0 up and they were cruising. Man United looked on top form and it was only the first half.

Michael Carrick nearly extended the lead in the 48th minute when he took the ball on the chest and volleyed it but his shot came back into play off the post. Ronaldo got his third of the match in the 73rd minute. He had the ball on the edge of the box and took a shot with the outside of his boot that went in off the post. Ji-SungPark was then brought on for the last 15 minutes and Ryan Giggs was brought off for him.

Tevez got his goal in the 79th minute. The ball was chipped into the box and Tevez ran onto it before volleying it into the bottom corner. Tevez got his second of the match in the 87th minute. Blackburn got a corner and pushed a lot of their players up to try and get a consolation goal. The ball was cleared though, and it went straight to Ronaldo he played the ball right into the path of Tevez and he slotted the ball into the corner of the net. Man United play Newcastle at home next.

Default Man Utd 2-0 Newcastle

^Rio Ferdinand under pressure by Alan Smith^

Team Changes: Man United came into this match on with a 100% record in every match this season and put out a strong side to make sure that he retained that record. Neville came back into the side ahead of the young, Brazilian Rafael. Scholes also came back into the line-up after missing out in the last 2 games. Berbatov again had to make do with a place on the bench as Tevez’s scoring form continued. Evans also joined Berbatov on the bench.

Man United looked to take the advantage early on in this match and that is just what they did in the 4th minute of the match. Giggs had the ball on the wing and saw Tevez in the middle. He crossed the ball right into the middle of the match and Tevez got between both of the Centre-backs and headed the ball into the corner.

The match got a lot harder for Newcastle in the 23rd minute when Michael Owen was sent off. An incident had took place off the ball with Rio Ferdinand but the referee allowed play to go on for a couple of minutes before going back to the incident and showing Owen a straight red. Man United grew in confidence from this and pushed on to try and get another goal.

Man United went into half-time 1-0 up but really it should’ve been more. Man United had loads of chances to extend their lead but they just couldn’t take them. Given had to make a few fine saves in the first half especially from Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Carlos Tevez.

Man United kept up the pressure in the second half but just couldn’t get the second goal which would have surely sealed the win for United. Man United brought on Ji-SungPark and Anderson for Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes with only 5 minute left to play hoping that a burst of fresh enthusiasm would help United see the match through. The tension was nearly unbearable in the 88th minute, Newcastle were going all out for the win and they had got a corner. Given came up for the corner and nearly got his head to it but Van Der Sar came out an collected the cross before quickly throwing it out to start a counter attack. Tevez had the ball and dribbled past one defender before walking the ball into the net.

Man United play Heerenveen in the Champions League next. They Can almost guarantee qualification if they win.

Default Heerenveen 1-1 Man Utd

^Nani was brought on with 15 minutes to go and he produced the goods^

Team Changes: Man United fielded a much weaker side than the one that faced Newcastle on Saturday and it may have been the cause for United’s slip-up. Rafael was brought in for Neville and O’Shea was preferred ahead of Evra. Tevez and Rooney started upfront again and Hargreaves and Park came into the midfield for Scholes and Giggs. Veloso was on the substitute’s bench and Edwin Van Der Sar was captain of the side.

Man United came into this match fully expecting to win but some people might have been getting a bit nervous when Rio Ferdinand was sent off in the 14th minute. It was thought that Sibon, the Heerenveen striker, said something to Ferdinand. He lashed out at Sibon and was given a straight red. The suspension is likely to be 3 games, which will mean he’ll miss the rest of the group stages, and it is rumoured that Sir Alex Ferguson could also suspend him bringing the likely suspension up to 5 games.

The red card turned the match on its head. Man United were looking comfortable but now started to come under serious pressure. O’Shea tucked into Centre back to fill the gap but that left a big space on the left wing for Heerenveen to exploit. Van Der Sar had to make a very good save in the 19th minute to stop United from going behind. The ball was crossed into the box and was headed on at the front post and Van Der Sar just got fingertips to it and pushed it out for a corner.

Heerenveen went closer in the 23rd minute when the ball went out off the bar. The Heerenveen striker was through on goal and Van Der Sar came rushing out. He chipped the ball over him though but the bar came to United’s aid and the ball went out for a goal kick. Both teams went into the break at 0-0 and Man United were lucky that they were not behind.

Man United went behind for only the 5th time this season in the 60th minute. The ball was fired across the face of goal and Vayrynen took one touch before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Man United were getting more and more frustrated as the match went on and Heerenveen put more men behind the ball to stop United pulling level. Tevez and Park came off in 76th minute for Berbatov and Nani. Both of them were keen to show the United manager how good they are after not playing much this season.

The substitution paid off in the 82nd minute when both substitutes combined to give United the equaliser. Berbatov had the ball on the wing and Nani made a little run at the back post to lose his marker. Berbatov saw this and played the ball over to him. Nani took the ball down before smashing the ball into the top corner from a tight angle. Heerenveen were keen to not let in another goal and took the ball to the corners and they held on for a draw.

United will be sad that their 100% record has now gone but are glad to have grabbed an equaliser to keep their unbeaten streak going. Man United will have a tough match next against Arsenal as well. Can they keep their unbeaten streak and 100% record in league intact or will the loss of Rio Ferdinand affect the players?
