Default Portsmouth 3-5 Man Utd

^Ronaldo celebrating after giving Man United the lead^

Team Changes: This was the first league match of the season and they were expecting it to be a tough match against Portsmouth away. Man United gave debuts to both Hugo Lloris and Gerard Pique. Ryan Giggs retained his place at Centre-Mid and Miguel Veloso joined him in the middle of the park. Nani replaced Park on the left-wing.

Man United started well and tired to test Jamie Ashdown. It was Ashdown’s first match in a very long time but is expecting to be the first choice keeper now since David James retired at the end of last season. It was Portsmouth who took the lead though against the run of play. The ball was crossed into the box but it was cleared. It hit the back of Veloso and dropped for Crouch to poke it past Lloris.

Portsmouth managed to extend the lead 4 minutes later in the 26th minute. The ball was crossed into the box and it didn’t look very dangerous but Vidic took too much time to clear it and Defoe ran in and volleyed it past the keeper for the 2nd goal of the match.

Berbatov pulled a goal back a minute later when he ran from the half way line before chipping the ball over Ashdown. Portsmouth regained their 2 goal advantage in the 30th minute. The ball was played into Crouch and he took one touch before slotting the ball into the corner of the net. This had been an amazing couple of minutes with 4 goals in 8 minutes. Man United went into the break 3-1 down and had to step it up a gear if they were going to get anything out of this match.

Nani pulled a goal back for United in the 56th minute when Berbatov’s shot was saved but the ball was nodded into an empty net to give Man United a good chance of getting an equaliser and even the winner. Man United then got the equaliser in the 64th minute. Berbatov managed to dribble the ball into the box and then chipped the ball over to Rooney and he volleyed it into the top corner.

Ronaldo completed a wonderful comeback in the 70th minute when Ronaldo cut in along the line and then somehow managed to squeeze the ball into the net from such a tight angle. Berbatov sealed the win in the 75th minute when he got one-on-one with Jamie Ashdown and slid it along the ground into the corner. It had been a wonderful comeback from United coming back from 3-1 down to win 5-3.

Default Man Utd 6-0 Bolton

^Rooney and Ronaldo celebrating after Ronaldo's goal^

Team Changes: This was Man United’s first home game of the season and they were hoping to give the Man United fans something to cheer about. Sir Alex Ferguson made a few changes after the 5-3 win over Portsmouth. Ryan Giggs was moved over to the Left Wing and Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick started in Centre Midfield for the first time this season. Lloris and Pique were both dropped to the reserves, and Van Der Sar and Ferdinand both came back into the starting line-up.

This match started at a very high tempo as Man United hit the bar twice well once really. Giggs got the ball from the kick-off and ran at the Bolton defence. He tried to curl his shot with the outside of his boot around the keeper but the shot was just too high and it hit the bar. Bolton managed to clear but the ball was fizzed into the box a Bolton defender stuck his leg out and the ball went off his foot and onto the bar. All this happened in the first 5 minutes.

Man United did take the lead in the 13th minute when Ronaldo headed the ball into the net from a Ryan Giggs corner. It didn’t take long for Man United to extend their lead and it came from a header too. In the 16th minute the ball was crossed to the far post and Rooney scored with a diving header.

Rooney got his second of the game in the 34th minute. He had some very quick feet and close control to dribble past the whole Bolton defence on the edge of the box and then just place the ball into the corner leaving Al-Habsi rooted to his spot. Rio Ferdinand nearly got rare goal 2 minutes later. The ball was curled into the box superbly from a corner and Ferdinand came running in but his bullet header came back into play from the bar and Man United went into the break 3-0 up.

It didn’t take long for Man United to pick up were they left off as Berbatov got his 3rd of the season. It only took 3 minutes into the second half for Berbatov to head past Al-Habsi from a wonderful cross to put United 4-0 up. It took 55 minutes for Bolton to get their first chance of the match and it was a very good chance. Kevin Davies shot was saved by Van Der Sar but the rebound somehow hit the bar from close range.

Ronaldo got his goal in the 62nd minute. Rooney was one-on-one with Al-Habsi but instead of shooting he chipped it over to Ronaldo and he volleyed it into an empty net. Man United then had a cause for concern when Berbatov went down after a crunching tackle. He has taken off and Tevez came on and Scholes came off for Nani and Giggs went into centre mid.

Every player in the Fantastic four (Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov, Ronaldo) got a goal today. In the 84th minute Tevez tapped the ball into an empty net to cap off a wonderful day for United. Man United have West Ham United in the Super Cup next
