Yes, why are you always chewing gum? Are you addicted, or to you just have a vibrating jaw and you want to cover it up by looking like you are chewing?

Default Sir Alex Ferguson Interview

Q: Hello Sir Alex. We would like to ask you some questions about the new season. Do you expect Cristiano Ronaldo to leave this summer?

A: few years ago I might not have been able to answer that question but now I am quite sure that Cristiano (Ronaldo) will be staying with us this season. He was very angry after the match against Real Madrid because they injured him in the first 5 minutes he was very fortunate it wasn’t serious but he did miss the next match. He said then that he didn’t want to leave because the Real Madrid players did not show any respect to him.

Q: Do you have any transfer targets?

A: Yes we have been looking at some players to improve our squad. We are looking at getting a Centre-back and a Goalkeeper. We only have Rio (Ferdinand), Nemanja (Vidic), and Jonny (Evans) at Centre-back and Edwin (Van Der Sar), Ben Foster and Ben Amos but Amos is still a reserve team player so I’m looking on getting another back up keeper.

Q: Can you name some of your targets?

A: I’m not supposed to name any names but we are in talks with Lyon about the young boy Lloris and we are also looking at getting pique back to Old Trafford but that might not materialize to anything. Also Rui Patricio impressed us in the Champions League final and we might look at him if we don’t get Lloris. We have good connections with Sporting Lisbon, we have bought Ronaldo, Nani and Veloso from them.

Q: Why are you always chewing gum? Are you addicted, or to you just have a vibrating jaw and you want to cover it up by looking like you are chewing?

A: Well you’ve left me speechless, eh well I actually don’t know it just gives me something to do and if the game is not going well it helps ease the tension and frustration. No I don’t have a vibrating jaw *Laughs*

Q: Will Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes be coming back this season or will they be retiring?

A: No, all players will be coming back for the new season. They are all first team players and doing very well. Paul and Ryan have got a good number of goals near the end of last season and hopefully they can bring that form into this season. I don’t know if they will come back for the next season but I hope they do and there is always room here at Old Trafford at management level.

Q: Who will captain the side when Gary Neville retires?

A:Rio Ferdinand has filled in as captain when Gary was injured and Ryan didn’t play so he will be my first choice but we also have some very good leaders on the team so it will be a hard decision to name the vice-captain.

Q: What do you hope to achieve this season?

A: Well, obviously I hope to retain the Premier League and the Champions League but I also want to win the Carling Cup because we have not won that for 5 years. The World Club Championship is also I trophy I would like to win again.

Q: Any thoughts of retiring?

A: No not at all I want to keep managing until its not physically not possible any more.

Default Transfers

^Lloris in action for France^

Sir Alex Ferguson has talked openly about the young French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and today it has been confirmed on the Man United website that they have sent an official bid to Lyon about the 24 year-old. The bid is rumoured to be in the region of 7-8 million euros and on a wage of 20,000 a week. The Man United manager has been very complementary of the Goalkeeper in recent weeks and is likely to complete the move after the FA Community Shield match against Blackburn.

Also, Pique is rumoured to be making a move back to Old Trafford after leaving 4 years ago. The young Spanish defender has moved clubs 2 times between Man United and Barcelona and this would make it the 3rd but a bid has not yet been confirmed but Barcelona are reported to want 5 million for him. This would be a good signing for United as they only have 3 Centre-Backs.

^Modric has been rumoured with a number on clubs^

There are also Players rumoured to be going out of Old Trafford. The big name being CzechRepublic star, Luka Modric. The Centre-Mid was bought for about 9 million but has struggled to get into the starting team and even the subs bench. He has only played about 9 times since joining 2 years ago. Also, scouted talents Ayin De Falco and Yi Sub Guastavino have been put on the transfer list since failing to impress in the chances they got and also the fact that they didn’t really fit into the Man United team.

Other rumours in the tabloids are that Spanish sensation David Villa could be on his way out of Manchester United. He has said that he wish he could get more playing time but he says that he is happy at Old Trafford and since he is still playing for Spain that there is no need to move. Also Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure has been linked with United but Sir Alex Ferguson has denied any truth in the rumour because he said that he was a midfield packed with talent and doesn’t need another one.

Great interview, my question was there!

And I'm glad to see Giggs, Scholes and Neville are not retiring.

Default Blackburn 1-2 Man Utd

http://footyblog.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/charity-shield.jpg
^Ryan Giggs lifts the trophy after a brillaint perfomance by him^

Sir Alex made a few changes for the first match of the season. The one that made a big impact was moving Ryan Giggs into Centre-Midfield. Also he chose Park at LM because of Giggs going into the middle and Scholes moved across to go into Carrick’s position.

Blackburn had the brighter start of the two. Roque Santa Cruz nearly gave Blackburn the lead in the 1st minute when Evra failed to head the ball quick enough and Santa Cruz came in and volleyed the ball off the bar from close range. He had another chance in the 7th minute when Van Der Sar came rushing off his line, Santa Cruz chipped the ball over him but Rio Ferdinand managed to scamper back and clear it off the line.

Man United thought that he had took the lead in the 15th minute when Ronaldo headed the ball into the net from 6 yards but when he was just about to turn away and celebrate he saw the linesman raise the flag and the goal was ruled out for offside. Both teams went into half-time all level with Blackburn having the better chances but United had more of the ball.

It toolalalalail the 55th minute for the first goal of the game. Man United pushed a lot of players up for a corner but it was punched away by Paul Robinson, Roque Santa Cruz was left with only Vidic in the way of him and the keeper. Santa Cruz easily beat Vidic and was one-on-one with Van Der Sar, His shot smashed off the ball but it came straight back out to Santa Cruz and he tucked it into an empty net.

It only took United 10 minutes to equalise and it was a fantastic equaliser too. Berbatov crossed the ball into the box towards the back post and Ryan Giggs came in unmarked and volleyed it superbly past Robinson. Man United had plenty of chances to grab the winner but they just couldn’t find it and the match went into extra-time.

Ryan Giggs gave Man United the lead in 1st half stoppage time of extra time. The ball was crossed into the box and Giggs came in and nodded the ball into the bottom corner. Man United took off the tired legs of Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs for Rafael and Anderson at the break and Blackburn brought on Kerlon but the Brazilian sensation couldn’t even get the equaliser and Man United held on for the first win of the season.

Manager’s Comments: I thought that the lads played really well and it was one of the best performances of the year. Ryan Giggs was outstanding and will be giving me some selection headaches for the next match. Credit to Blackburn though who played very well and defended well against us for most of the match.

Transfer news coming up……….

Transfer Update

^Lloris in training after joining Man United^

On the Man United website, Man United has confirmed the singing of both Hugo Lloris and Gerard Pique. Both deals were completed at around 7 PM after the FA Community Shield.

Lloris has joined for a fee of £7,500,000 and will earn £20,000 a week. He has signed a contract for up to 4 years and is the likely successor of Edwin Van Der Sar. The French keeper is a bright young talent. He is only 24 and has played for Nice and Lyon. He made 77 appearances for Nice and has been Lyon’s first choice keeper for 4 years now. He has made 20 appearances for France.

Also Gerard Pique has rejoined Man United after leaving for Barcelona 4 years ago. The fee was undisclosed but is rumoured to be in the region of £5 million. The Spaniard has signed for 5 years and is one of United’s promising young stars. Pique made 22 appearances for United in his last spell but only scored 2 goals. Sir Alex Ferguson had this to say about Pique “He is a very good player and will go from strength to strength because of playing in the Premier League. We never wanted him to leave last time but he said that he thought that Barcelona was where he could get more playing time. But He has struggled to get into the side ahead of Milito and Marquez.”

Man United have also rejected bids for Guastavino, De Falco and Modric. We caught up with Sir Alex so that we could found out more about the decision. “We didn’t accept the offers for Guastavino and De Falco because we do not want to sell some our good players to our rivals. Chelsea offered more than we wanted for De Falco but we just couldn’t accept it and the same with ManCity’s bid for Guastavino. Wigan put in a bid of £10 million for Modric but we want more for him but if Wigan raises their offer we will accept.”
