Fellaini and Arteta save 10 man Everton a point ![]() Everton clawed back into the game after being 2-1 down with only 10 men but Mikel Arteta and Marouane Fellaini grabbed the goals to secure the 2-2 draw. The first peice of action came when Jack Rodwell's shot appeared to hit Yakubu but the referee gave a corner, Ledley King was furious and was even more furious when from the corner, Marouane Fellaini scored from a glancing header. Ledley King and several other Tottenham players appealed to the referre, but the goal stood. Joseph Yobo went in hard on Darren Bent soon after Evertons lead and was given a yellow card, from the free-kick, David Bentley curled one into the six yard box where Jonathon Woodgate headed onto the bar, however the ball came down to Darren Bent who just tapped it in for a 1-1 scorline. Giovanni dos Santos took Joseph Yobo down the line and dived after a perfectly clean challenge from the Nigerian. However referee Mark Halsey brought out the red card to go with his first yellow and he was sent to have an early shower. Everton brought on Leighton Baines for Leon Osman to keep a back-four Formation. Everton went into half-time with 10 men, other than that, nothing seperated the two sides. Then the save of the game, Tim Howard, flat footed, Roman Payluchenko headed from 4 yards off a Bentley cross, the American keeper dives and tips it onto the bar and Henrique clears the danger for a Tottenham throw in. Pavyluchenko got his own back and made it 2-1 after some bad defending by Phil Neville who cleared straight to the Russian. Everton looked defeated by Tim Cahill's one-two with Fellaini and chip through ball found Yakubu who pulled it back for Rodwell who scuffed the ball, straight in the path of Mikel Arteta who tapped in the equaliser. Everton held possession for the last ten minutes and almost took the lead but Rodwell's shot had too much curve and served wide which had everyone it the ground dazzled. Goals : Marouane Fellaini 12', Mikel Arteta 76' ; Darren Bent 30', Roman Pavlyuchenko 58' Red Card : Joseph Yobo 32' Man of the Match : Darren Bent Well done to rhcp22 and Algosaubi for guessing the score correctly.

The Yak is off the mark ![]() Yakubu scored his first of the season in Evertons 3 - 0 victory over Wigan. Goals from Yakubu, Fellaini and Arteta gave Everton all 3 points. The match started at a slow tempo with neither sides creating great chances until Andy Van Der Meyde unleashed a blistering shot with missed the back-post by several inches, Kirland would have had no chance. Yakubu was causing Kirkland problems but It was Cahill who really tested the English keeper as his header from a corner needed saving and clearing off the line. Everton took the lead in the 42nd minute when Arteta's cross was headed at the front post by Yakubu and it somehow went it. Kirkland was furious, however there was still more to come out of the first half as Van der Meyde's cross was semi-blocked by Maxwell, Wigan's new £6 million signing from Inter Milan, the wind blew the ball over Kirland's head and he misjudged it. Marouane Fellaini just had to head it in. Half Time and Wigan had threw two goals away in three minutes. Wigan started the second half better Koumas and Kilbane linking together, if it wasn't for Jagielka's last man challenge in the penalty area, the game would have been 2 - 1. In the 61st minute, Van der Meyde broke free and took it round the keeper, Kirkland took out the Dutchman and the referee awarded a penalty. Mikel Arteta, who missed a penalty against Stoke on the first day on the season, just passed it into the bottom corner and the game was won. However Yakubu couldn't believe his luck as his shot hit both posts, the ball was cleared up to Heskey who ran past Henrique and hit the Everton post. The game ended on a brighter note for Wigan though as Tim Cahill missed a sitter, 6 yards out. Goals : Yakubu 42', Fellaini 45', Arteta 62' (pen)
Man of the Match : Marounane Fellaini
