![]() Officials Fined Over Match-Fixing Scandal ![]() On Thursday, in Madrid, prosecutors used the third day of the match-fixing trial to outline the penalties they said they would seek against the clubs and individuals accused of throwing games. Along with SD Huesca, prosecutors said the five other clubs involved (Malaga, Tenerife, Levante, Athletic Club Bilbao, and Écija Balompié), could also be fined significant amounts. In addition to the fines, several clubs may have point penalties imposed, similar to the fate given to Italian teams. The lead prosecutor, Miguel Ramos, outlined a package of penalties to the sports tribunal hearing the case, which has rocked Spain. Ramos said that managers of the siz teams employed a sophisticated system to transfer money, allowing them to influence high-profile matches. "There is absolutely no other possible interpretation for what has emerged from the investigation," he said. Ramos has requested penalties for 26 individuals — club officials, staff, players, and even owners — that ranged from one- to five-year suspensions and fines. He said that two Huesca officials at the center of the scandal, manager Antonio Calderon and the owner, Armando Borraz, had constant contact with other managers and players on secure phone lines. ![]() "There is absolutely no other possible interpretation for what has emerged from the investigation,"The tribunal has said it wants to announce verdicts within the next 3 days, a week before the first match day in Spain. After any appeals, the tribunal said it would announce final verdicts in the next two weeks. Last edited by 7DavidVilla; 18-12-2008 at 01:44 PM.. |

![]() Huesca Coach Quits Amid Scandal ![]() "As of today, I have resigned. From this day the world of football is no longer my world," Calderon said. "Now I'll think about defending myself from the malice said about me." He has been linked to the publication of telephone tapes involving talks with Spanish football federation officials, managers, and players involved in the match-fixing scandal. "As of today, I have resigned. From this day the world of football is no longer my world,"Managers, players and high ranking officials from Bilbao, Levante, Malaga, Tenerife, and Écija, are also being investigated in the probe. Calderon, along with Huesca owner and chairman, Armando Borraz, are two of 26 people under formal investigation. Borraz, who is also mentioned in the publication of taps, is under investigation for possible match-fixing, and betting. Spain’s fourth most successful team, Athletic Club Bilbao as well as Malaga CF feature in the probe of several key games at the end of last season. Charges against those involved will be announced later today, with SD Huesca expected to receive several significant fines, which could bankrupt the club. Both Mr. Calderon and Mr. Borraz are expected to face charges. |

![]() Huesca Owner Considering 3 Bids ![]() The Spanish businessman reportedly lost €13 million euros following the worldwide credit crunch. Sources have revealed that he values Huesca at €9 million, having brought the club for €4 million three years ago. However, a potential barrier to any sale could be the Spanish match-fixing scandal, in which Huesca are deeply embroiled. They face several large fines, which could easily bankrupt the small club. More on this as it comes to us. |

Sorry about that hale, I was trying to have a link to my thread, the graphic, and the credit to you. I think I've fixed it now
![]() Yes I am. I'm trying to be realistic though, so it won't go to someone like Abu Dhabi group, or Bill Gates. In about 10 minutes, should have something on it |
