![]() FC Metz Les prit du Graoullys The Facts + Full name - Football Club de Metz + Nickanmes Les Grenats, Les Graoullys + Founded 1932 + Manager Yvon Pouliquen + Chairman Carlo Molinari + Based In Metz, France + League Ligue 2 History 1932 was the birth year of FC Metz, two amateur clubs merging to form one of the oldest professional sides in France, that of course being FC Metz. During World War II, which started just 7 years after the forming of Metz, the club were forced to join the Gauliga Wetsmark league, under the Germanized version of FC Metz, FV Metz. Despite having to play in Nazi Germany, Metz enjoyed their three seasons in the Gauliga Westmark, being runners-up in each of the seasons. In 1965, FC Metz were promoted to the highest level of French football, what is now Ligue 1. Metz enjoyed 46 years in the top flight, yet the highest they ever got to in the league was getting the runners-up spot in 1998. That mean that they competed in Champions League qualifying, but they were defeated by Helsinki. They also won the French Cup in 1984 and 1988. In 2001 they were relegated back into Ligue 2, but their time in that league was brief, being promoted straight away. In 2006 they were relegated again, but like 2001, they were re-promoted immediately. But then they were relegated again, leaving them in Ligue 1 for the upcoming season. They have produced many great talents over the years, including the likes of Pires, Adebayor and Saha. Yvon Pouliquen was appointed head coach in December 2007, and hopes to lead Metz back to Ligue 1 Kits Home Kit: ![]() Away Kit: ![]() Honours ![]() + Ligue 1 Runners-up 1 time 1998 + Ligue 2 Winners 2 times - 1935, 2007 + French Cup Winners 2 times 1984, 1988 + French Cup Runners-up 1 time 1938 + French League Cup Winners 2 times 1986, 1996 + French League Cup Runners-up 1 time 1999 + Intertoto Cup Runners-up 2 times 1996, 1999 Stadium ![]() + Name Stade Municipal Saint-Symphorien + Location Metz, France + Capacity 26,700 + Built - 1923 HERE IT BEGINS...

Transfer News
![]() The big news around is Manchester City being taken over by a group of Arabs, the Abu Dhabi United Group, and they have brought in billions to spend. City had already bought Argentinian wing-back Zabaleta, Shaun Wright-Phillips back off Chelsea, CSKA Moskva striker Jo and even Robinho from Real, but now they have added two more players to their squad. The bigger of the two is a huge shock, probably even larger than Robinho. Valencia hit-man David Villa has agreed a 40,000,000 Euros deal with Manchester City, his contract due to last 4 years. He had a superb Euro 2008, and with so many clubs after him, it looked like he wouldn't stay at Valencia, yet he was on the verge of signing a 6-year contract with them. But who would have guessed that he would join City ahead of teams such as Milan? Villa said "I couldn't sleep at night; I couldn't concentrate on things in the day. I didn't know whether to stay at Valencia for another 6 years or to join another club. Ultimately, I think what made me move was the fact that 6 years was too long, it would have taken me to the age of 32, and by then my peak will have passed." Neither bosses had anything to say, but we are likely to hear from the City boss soon. The other City transfer is their capture of Chilean winger Luis Jimenez. The 23-year old didn't get enough playing time at Inter, and he felt that he should move on. "I am delighted that City wanted me. It was my dream to play in the Premier League, and that dream is about to turn into reality. I hope that I can help Manchester City overpower their Manchester rivals and Europe!" The sale of Jimenez wasn't the only movement in the Inter camp. Another winger has left them, and he is Ricardo Quaresma. Mourinho claims "He hasn't settled in. He has great talent, but Italy isn't the place for him." Quaresma has been released, and Manchester United are the current favourites to sign him, to replace Ronaldo, whose future is very uncertain. Real Madrid and Inter themselves are thought to be in talks with the Portuguese winger. Arsenal have bagged three new signings as well in an attempt to boost their chances in the title race. Angel Fabian Di Maria, the 19-year old has signed for them, Benfica receiving 4,000,000 for the teenage winger. The other move for them is in the goalkeeping department. Manuel Almunia's position is now uncertain, as Arsenal have bagged Udinese's Samir Handanovic for an undisclosed fee. Villarreal attacking midfielder Mati Fernandez has also joined Arsenal. We will catch up with Wenger later. Valencia have let go of another top striker. Fernando Morientes' days have passed according to Unai Emery, thus has been sold to French side Lyon. To make up for the loss of Morientes and David Villa, they have captured Carlos Tevez. After the Manchester sides signing of Berbatov, Tevez immediately demanded a transfer. Real Madrid turned their noses up at him by instead purchasing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and he was left for Valencia to take for 15,000,000 Euros. They still bulge with cash with the Villa money. FC Metz are pleased to announce a trio of signings. Manager Yvon Pouliquet has obviously been busy looking at defenders, as he has purchased three of them. The first is Carl Hoefkens from West Brom. They earned promotion to the Premier League last season, and signed a few better players, allowing players like Hoefkens to go. The next one is Bojan Jokic. He used to play for Ligue 1 side Sochaux, but the 21-year old has decided to move down to Ligue 2. Last but not least is Hull's Bernard Mendy. The pacey right-back was allowed to leave, and he decided to return to his home country. None of the fees are known. Later we shall interview a few of the managers including Yvon, Wenger and Ferguson, so don't miss it! |
