Stadium:
Stamford Bridge

Chelsea's home stadium is called Stamford Bridge and has a history as varied and unique as the team itself. Stamford Bridge officially opened on 28 April 1877. For the first 28 years of its existence it was used almost exclusively by the London Athletic Club as an arena for athletics meetings and not for football at all. In 1904 the ownership of the ground changed hands when Mr H A (Gus) Mears and his brother, Mr J T Mears, obtained the deeds, having previously acquired additional land (formerly a large market garden) with the aim of establishing a football team there on the now 12.5 acre site. Stamford Bridge was designed by Archibald Leitch and initially included a 120 yard long stand on the East side which could hold 5000 spectators. The other sides were all open in a vast bowl with thousands of tons of material excavated from the building of the underground railway provided high terracing on the West side. The capacity was originally planned to be 100,000 and was the second largest in country behind Crystal Palace - the FA Cup final venue. Initially the stadium was offered to Fulham FC to play there, they turned down the chance and so instead a new side, Chelsea Football Club, was born in 1905 and moved into the new Stamford Bridge stadium.

Decent start, not a good title though. And i think you shouldn't have the starting xi in your opening post as it will change from match to match.

I don't care if this is a good OP, the title turned me off completely. I really hope you don't consider yourself a Chelsea fan

if you're a Chelsea fan, how can you can make a "mistake" calling them Chelski. That's like a true United fan calling their team Man U

Lol, you take it so seriously...
I've barely ever done one of these, so I messed up on the title...

Caldera 31, i've got a few transfer targets in mind...you'll see in the next post.

I don't get how you mess up calling Chelsea, the team who looks to be your favorite team, and calling the Chelski

Scolari OUT, Hiddink IN

Scolari OUT

Hiddink IN

It seems Chelsea Owner Roman Abramovich has had a change of heart towards the ex-Portugal manager Scolari and opted for the Russian boss Guss Hiddink instead. After an impressive showing in Euro 2008 Abramovich realized shortly after installing Scolari as Chelsea manager, he had made the wrong decision. After some reluctant negotiating, Hiddink agreed to join Chelsea on a salary of £55,000 a-week. Setanta Sports managed to arrive in time for the Dutchman's first press conference in England:

Guus, what determined you to leave Russia and become the new Chelsea manager?
The English Premiership is arguably the strongest league in the World and although I enjoyed my time as a National Coach, I wanted to get back into club coaching to provide myself with a bigger challenge. I feel Chelsea was the right club because of the location, the owner and the players. Roman was a pivotal part in my decision to join Chesea, he was very convincing and I'd already met him whilst coaching in Russia.

Have you had a chance to meet up with the players yet?
Yes, I met them briefly before this interview. They were very welcoming and friendly, I feel we can build a strong bond as a team and who knows what we can achieve this season.

Do you think the Chelsea supporters will support your arrival instead of Scolari?
I hope they understand that I wasn't involved in Phil's departure until he was gone. I was soon asked to become the new head coach after his deal collapsed. It seems the Chelsea fans are very true to their team and I'm sure our performances will leave them feeling glad about it.

Can we expect any transfers or changes to the squad?
Absolutely! I will be offloading a lot of players that I feel won't fit into my side, but I will also be adding to an extent that I feel I need to. I have been supplied with enough money to succeed in my dealings.

Who do you have in mind?
Well, I'll be looking for a back-up keeper for Petr, I have Manuel Neuer of Schalke in mind. I will be adding a few strikers, my main choices from a player I know very well Andrei Arshavin, Sevilla's Luis Fabiano and Inter's Mario Balotelli. In midfield, i was extremely impressed with Andres Iniesta at the Euros and he is a player I feel is one of the best around. Defensively, I may bring in Martin Caceres from Barcelona on loan and I am a great admirer of Leverkusen's defensive midfielder Arturo Vidal. So expect a lot of dealings over the summer.

Sounds extremely exciting Guus, thank you for your time.
My pleasure.

Yeah, I had the starting XI up, but that doesn't work so I was thinking about the squads, I'll do them tomorrow I think.
Cheers for the reminder.
