Default Barnsley-The Championship Underdogs

http://www.soccer.co.uk/images/teams/Barnsley.jpg

Name: Barnsley FC
Founded: 1887
Stadium: Oakwell
Manager: Simon Davey
Captain: Steven Foster
League: The Championship

Last Season

Barnsley brought in 14 players last Summer, the majority of them foreign , which gave them a good start to the season. They relied on Skipper Brian Howard to get the goals, which resulted in him geting intrest in Premiership clubs. But their form dipped and finished a lowly 18th. But the real success story of their season was their FA Cup run. They defeated Blackpool and Southend United in the 3rd and 4th rounds, and that resulted in them recieving a 5th round trip to Anfield to face Liverpool. Dirk Kuyt opened the scoring for Liverpool, but second-half goals from Stephen Foster and Brian Howard sent Barbsley through. They had an even harder task in the Quarter-Final, facing Chelsea at Oakwell, but scapped through that, defeating them 1-0, thanks to a Kayode Odejayi goal. Barnsley's winning run in the Cup came to an end as fellow Championship team Cardiff City defeated them 1-0 in the Semi-Final, with Joe Ledley scoring the winning goal.

F.Adu, M.Bradley, RB A.Ebono, LW A.Driver, RWB O.Esparza, CDM M.Edu, RB M.Wynne, ST K.Cooper, ST J.Altidore some cheaper young players. I'm doing a League 1 team those are players in my price range use em if it helps just an idea.

MASS CLEAROUT AT OAKWELL AS 3 DEFENDERS ARRIVE
http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/ac/41/0,,10309~3359148,00.jpg

Barnsley have had a busy summer so far, and they are not finished yet.

There has been a mass exodus of players at Oakwell, but Simon Davey has not finshed spending yet. The players included in the exodus are Marciano van lalalalaet, Andy Johnson, Michael Coulson, Darren Moore and Robert Kozluk.

van lalalalaet was a first team regular last season, but lost his place in pre-season, after missing many training sessions. He has departed to Hamilton Academicals for £60,000

Andy Johnson had been on the Transfer-List at Oakwell for many months, but their was no takers. Finally, Southend took the gamble and purchased him for £110,000

Coulson was a youngster when he was plucked from non-league obscurity from Scarborough. He hasn't made a lot of first team appearances so a lower league move was the best option, moving to Bournemouth for £80,000

Moore had only been signed iearlier in the summer, but felt unhappy about the competition for a place and was sold to Cobh Ramblers for £75,000

The final selling so far was Rob Kozluk, who was plucked by Leicester City for £90,000. Kozluk made 37 appearances for rhe Tykes and scored no goals.

The recruits included Scotsman Paul Caddis, a right back form Celtic, bought for £900,000. He had only made 6 appearances for the Bhoys.

Another signing was Maurico from Palmeiras for £500,000.
He is a centre back and is 20 years old.

And Lewin Nyatanga, who had a spell on loan at the Tykes from Derby County last year, has perminately joined for £900,000

MOSTTO GRABS TYKES A DESErVED WIN
http://img.skysports.com/08/07/218x298/MiguelMostto_1065641.jpg

Barnsley grabbed a deserved win at the Valley over Charlton Athletic, with Miguel Mostto netting a penalty in the 77th minute

The scoring started in the 10th minute. Gary Teale crossed the bal in and the ball hit the back of Mark Hudson and Kayode Odejayi got a foot on the ball and knocked it into the back of the net. They extended the lead 5 minutes later. Jermaine Campbell-Ryce made a surging run down the wing and curled the shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

31 minutes in and a defensive mix-up cost Barnsley dearly. A corner walalalala into the box and the Goalkeeper Heinz Muller came for the ball and so did 4 other defenders. He dropped the ball and Lloyd Sam tapped the ball into the net. In Stoppage Time in the first half, Sam made a run into the box and tucked it under Muller to equalise.

Odejayi was a nuisance all game to the Ad****s' defence, and when he surged into the box, Hudson pulled him down and conceded a penalty. Subsitute Miguel Mostto placed it into the corner for the winner.

Simon Davey said after the game. " The lads dominated from start to finish and they had lots of chances and found the defence's weaknesses and put away 3 good chances"

Muller 7, Caddis 7, Nyatanga 7, Foster 8, Souza 8, Teale 7, (Devaney 6) Rigters 7, Leon 9, Campbell-Ryce 9, Macken 7, (Mostto Odejayi 9

MOTM-DiegoLeon ran the show today. From start to finish he was a pass master and cut through the Charlton defence easily.

Current Position-4th 3 points

Next Game- Queens Park Rangers- (H)

DAVEY BRINGS IN ANOTHER FOREIGNER

Barnsley have continued their spending spree this summer, and another Brazilian was brought in. Alex Cazumba, a left-back, completed a medical yesterday and signed from So Paulo for £700,000.

Cazumba made 5 appearances for the Tricolor Paulista and was excited at the prospect of playing in the English Leagues. Speaking in Portugese he said,

"Estou lisonjeado de estar aqui na Inglaterra, e espero chegar primeiro a equipa de futebol, amadurecer e eu preciso também, Barnsley, mas tenho um monte de jogadores no exterior assim acho que vou encaixar muito bem aqui dentro"

and that translates as

"I am flattered to be here in England and I hope I get first-team football, and I need to mature as well, but Barnsley have a lot of overseas players so I think I will fit in here very well"
