Ipswich Town 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Ipswich Town welcomed Nottingham Forest to Portman Road for their first home game of the new season. The game started off well from an Ipswich perspective with the blues dominating possession up and down the pitch. Danny Haynes who got into the starting lineup today due to Kevin Lisbie's suspension looked lively and was looking for the ball behind the Forest defence. On the 22nd minute a lofted ball over the top of the Nottingham back four put Haynes in one on one with the Goalkeeper and he made it count, 1-0 to Ipswich and Danny Haynes' second goal in two games. It was turning into what looked like a very good game for young Danny Haynes, on the 32nd minute he crafted an opening on the edge of the 18 yard box and tried to curl the ball into the far corner. His confident and technical ability was there for all to see. Although the chances kept coming for Ipswich they could not convert. Pablo Counago with his first start missing on two occasions late in the first half.
The 2nd half started much the same as the first with Ipswich Town dominating possession and generally looking comfortable with the ball, it was therefore quite a shock when against the run of play Nottingham Forest crossed the ball into the box where Robert Earnshaw was lurking and he volleyed home a fantastic volley into the roof of the net. 1-1 and Nottingham Forest give themselves a life line. After the goal was conceded Ipswich tried to press forwards in search of a winner, there efforts coming to no avail as Forest did not allow Counago, Haynes or Jonathan Walters passed them. Into the 76th minute and Jim Magilton threw on Jon Stead for Pablo Counago. The Ipswich fans will be asking where does Magilton keep his magic wand because the substitute Jon Stead slotted him the winner with 8 minutes remaining and the crowd was rawkus. Great scenes today at Portman Road and another highly entertaining game.
