![]() Matchday #13 of the Barclays English Premier League Chelsea vs Sunderland Venue: Stamford Bridge ![]() Team Reports: Chelsea: Chelsea are doing terrifically so far. This month includes giant wins against Schalke 04, Manchester United, Arsenal, as well as a 9-2 against Burney, and 1 tough loss to Juventus 2-1. Although Chelsea have won these massive games it has also come with a bit of a suspension crisis. Today against Sunderland they get their captain John Terry back from suspension. Deco, Frank Lampard, and Karim Benzema are all still out for the Blues. Scolari chooses Freddy Adu, Drogba, and Anelka to man the forward positions. Scolari also chooses to put Mikel in to hold down the centre midfield area instead of Essien not because of fatigue just to give Essien a bit of a break ahead of hectic December and also to give Mikel a chance to show off his skills. --Cech-- --A.Cole--Terry--Alex--Bosingwa-- --Malouda--Obi Mikel--J.Cole-- --Drogba--Adu-- --Anelka-- Sunderland: Sunderland are on a loosing record at the moment 5-3-7 wins-draws-losses. They look to scrap points against the Blues today which will be a very difficult task with Chelsea's recent run of form. Sunderland are resting just above the drop zone with 18 points. --Gordon-- --McCartney--McManus--Ferdinand--Chimbonda-- --Reid--Milner--Taino--Malbranque-- --Diouf--Cisse-- First Half: Chelsea did not start off with their 'signature' first-few minutes goal. Mikel showed he could easily take over at any time for Essien yet with his performance doing just fine Chelsea seemed unlucky in front of goal, with several shots flying an inch wide of the goal. The other Chelsea youngster in the game Freddy Adu was part of the blame for not scoring early on. He missed a decent chance around the 20th minute after a brilliant set up by Ashley Cole. Sunderland proved they were not going to go down without a fight as they battled their way into the match winning a corner after a good save from Cech but nothing came of the corner kick. Nearing the end of the half it appeared the 2 sides would go into halftime without a goal. That wasn't to be though in the early bit of stoppage time Drogba beat McManus muscling his way through to score a delightful goal for an excited Scolari. Right after that in Sunderland's own half Cisse was injured and replaced by Chopra. On the free kick 20 yards in Sunderland's own half Chimbonda hit a free kick that went over Cech's head! Incredible Chimbonda had scored from inside his own half! (the game glitched!!! Cech could have reached his hand up and saved the ball!) Soon after the goal the referee blew for halftime. Halftime Score Chelsea 1 Sunderland 1 Second Half: After a weird bit of few minutes right at the end of the half the game resumed "normal" play. Chelsea once again had shots going over the bar or just wide by inches. You could say they were extremely complacent! Scolari was frustrated with his side's lack of shots on target. In the 63rd minute Nicolas Anelka broke free onto a break away with Ferdinand, Anelka fired home putting Chelsea up 2-1 calming nerves. Sunderland proved again they weren't going down with a fight and they soon earned another corner kick but nothing came of it once again this time Petr Cech jumping high to retrieve the ball with his hands. As the clock wound down it seemed as Chelsea would succeed holding off a forceful Sunderland and Drogba's goal all but ended nervous Chelsea staff and players. In the 90th minute Drogba guided the ball into the corner of the goal securing a Chelsea win going into December. Final Score Chelsea 3 Sunderland 1 Match Facts Chelsea-Sunderland 16 (6)-Shots (on target)-7 (4) 0-Bookings-0 2-Corners-2 57%-Possession-43% 78%-Passing-74% Goals:
45’-Didier Drogba 45’- Pascal Chimbonda 63’- Nicolas Anelka 90’- Didier Drogba Man of the Match: Didier Drogba Goals: 2 Scolari Comments: Playing a bit behind Anelka in the lineup Drogba did absolutely brilliant for us today! He passed the ball, created chances, and score 2 very important goals for us both coming in stoppage time of the two halves. I am proud of Drogba's performance today. ![]() |

![]() Chelsea TV Presents….. Chelsea TV is here to present you some top information from the Premier League. We will exam top goalscorers, Chelsea’s members to Team of the Month, the Premier League’s top 3 teams at the moment, Chelsea’s games of November and then Chelsea’s schedule for December. First off the Barclays Premier League Top Goalscorers of the season so far. The goals counted towards this are from the FA Cup, the league, and the Carling Cup. 1st- Nicolas Anelka: Goals- 18 2nd- Didier Drogba: Goals- 14 3rd- Wayne Rooney: Goals- 11 4th- Frank Lampard: Goals- 10 5th- Ayegbeni Yakubu: Goals-9 Roque Santa Cruz: Goals-9 Nicolas Anelka- In only 19 games Nicolas Anelka has scored an incredible 18 goals which averages to nearly a goal a game. Anelka has started off for Chelsea to be their leading goalscorer closely followed by the Ivorian Didier Drogba. Anelka has proved to be the leading striker for the Blues although some argue Drogba should be because he has had fewer games than Anelka. ![]() Didier Drogba- For the amount of chances Drogba has had he has done incredibly well to take them and score for his team. Scolari has said he still plans of using 1 striker until January then will review his options and possibly change things a bit. Drogba has kept his head also not complaining very much about the lack of time although he has gotten a good chunk of it. ![]() Wayne Rooney- The leading striker of the Red Devils has done tremendously well for his team. The only bad part is that Manchester United have already fallen behind Chelsea an incredibly 9 points. Rooney is looking towards bringing the Red Devils back on top of the Premier League in the near future. ![]() Frank Lampard- The Blues star midfielder is currently injured bu Scolari has said already he will be back for the Blackburn game and will see about a half hour of playing time. Even with the injury Lampard maintained a spot in the top 5 achieving 10 goals this season. Lampard has been on fire for the Blues with so many chances created for other players and scoring quite a few himself. ![]() Ayegbeni Yakubu- Yakubu’s team Everton currently only 3 points behind Manchester United and only 1 point ahead of Blackburn have had a sensational start to their season. People did expect them in the top 8 but not exactly in “title” contention. Yakubu has also started off delightedly with 9 goals in 18 games which averages to a goal every other game. ![]() Roque Santa Cruz- Roque Santa Cruz Blackburn’s leading scorer has exceeded all expectations for his club and looks to continue after bringing his club to only 4 points behind Manchester United and 1 behind Everton. ![]() Now we will take a long commercial break.

December Calendar for Chelsea FC *Barclays Premier League Matchday #17* December 6th Chelsea vs Blackburn Venue: Edwood Park ![]() **UEFA Qualifying Group Match** December 10th Chelsea vs Sampdoria Venue: Stamford Bridge ![]() *Barclays Premier League Matchday #18* December 13th Chelsea vs Everton Venue: Stamford Bridge ![]() ***Carling Cup Quarter Finals*** December 16th Chelsea vs Manchester City Venue: City of Manchester Stadium ![]() Barclays Premier League Matchday #19 December 20th Chelsea vs West Bromwich Albion Venue: The Hawthorns ![]() **UEFA Qualifying Group Match** December 23rd Chelsea vs Bayer Leverkusen Venue: Bay Arena ![]() Barclays Premier League Matchday #20 December 27th Chelsea vs Stoke City Venue: Britannia Stadium ![]() **Barclays Premier League Matchday #21** December 31st Chelsea vs Manchester City Venue: Stamford Bridge ![]() ***- Very important match **- Semi Important *- Important This month features 8 matches for the Blues. This month appears on paper as a much easier month than the last. But people will say there will be great pressure on Luis Felipe Scolari to qualify for the Champions League and get past Manchester City in the Carling Cup 1/4 finals. Also they have Blackburn and Everton who are placed just behind in the league who are in 4th and 3rd respectively. If Chelsea are to maintain their 9 point lead on the Red Devils into the New Year most will say they are the prime contenders for the title, if Chelsea are to slip up in December we could see a huge race for the title even so if they are to slip in the New Year.
This concludes the 2nd part of the Chelsea TV Presentation. The 3rd part is here to congratulate Petr Cech, Jose Bosingwa, and Nicolas Anelka for their performances this November getting themselves into part of the Team of the Month for November. Congratulations to the players and keep up the good work! |
