![]() Hello there I'm Angry Gray here at Chelsea's training ground in Cobham for a press conference with Scolari and some of the players. Let's get right down to business with questions. Scolari: I will look to Deco someone we just signed and also Lampard. Deco may play on the wing which he is good at where as Lampard could play a much more attacking position. Although I like Deco very much if he wants to play with Lampard in that attacking role he must impress me during preseason games and training plus I already know very well what he is capable of. In the beginning I may try some different formations to see which one works best for us to win games and score goals. Andy Gray: There have been rumorings you are looking to bring in several different players some names very big others not so well known but developing youngsters. Do you have anyone on mind for who you would like to bring into the squad? Scolari: Youth and quality. Those are two key things moving forward and looking towards the future. As the squad's senior players become older I am looking for quality youngsters to come into our squad. People have said I may look to get Axel Witsel, we have been tracking him and he seems like a promising player there will be a bid placed by him if the board allow it. Also it has been muttered that Lyon are looking for a serious offer for Benzema an amazing striker one of the classiest players in the world. I am uncertain if Chelsea need him with Drogba, Anelka, Kalou, and Franco di Santo. Andy Gray: It's been stated you might try to sign Aaron Ramsey and James Wilshere from rivals Arsenal. Can you say anything about this? Scolari: Well they are very decent youth players and have a bright future so it is definetley a possibility that we may sign them. Andy Gray: Do you have any personal interests of players you want to bring to the club? Scolari: I would really like to see an American come to Chelsea seeing as American "soccer" is still not the favourite sport in their country it would be interesting to see who our scouts like. Now that I have answered several questions I will step down from the mic and let Lampard take over. Andy Gray: Hello Frank, how are things with your new boss. Lampard: It's great! Let me to you, I am delighted I stayed with Chelsea and didn't go to Milan. Phil is the best coach I've ever had and a very funny one always cracking jokes in practice. He has great ideas for the club and hopefully we see those ideas, tactics, formations, and style mesh together and work wonders on the pitch for us. Andy Gray: After what Phil said about bringing players into the club what do you have to say? Lampard: I will be part of this club for plenty of years to come. The youngsters coach mentioned are decent players but I would like to see how great our youth players become. Of course as time goes on we would have to bring players in, the player I most want to see come to Chelsea would be an American. As Phil said it would be interesting. Andy Gray: Anyone in particular? Lampard: Not really, although I have seen Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore play several times and they look amazing on the pitch, both very good strikers. Ok I'm done for now thank you! Andy Gray: Ahh, Kalou its been said you may find it difficult to get into the starting 11 if Scolari is to bring another attacking option into the squad. Any comments? Kalou: I will always try my best because I love playing for Chelsea with such great talents all around me. After what I have done so far in practice sessions Scolari has talked with me and commented me very well so I believe he likes me as a very good player. My fellow countryman Didier and I were talking and thinking about how the striker delimena will sort itself out with the likes of Didier, Anelka, and I all battling for the lone striker role and possibly a forward-ish role behind the stiker. I can also play on the wing which Phil knows very well so hopefully I can do good and get my chance to play! Andy Gray: Sounds interesting! Good luck! Didier what are your thoughts on what Kalou has said. Drogba: I know Anelka and Kalou are great players. Kalou is a great player who tears up defenses with his speed and skill. Since we have a new boss I must work my hardest in practice to show I am that player who scores many many goals and earn my spot in the starting lineup. Andy Gray: Ok thank you Didier, Ballack with all this talk of first team play how do you fair with Phil. Ballack: I have worked hard in practice getting my fitness back up after suffering several injuries and believe I will have to work extra hard with the talent here. I know I am 32 years young which makes me seem slower to youngsters with lightening fast speed like Kalou. But I will have to show up with my best play every day to earn my spot. Andy Gray: Ok haha thanks Michael, Sinclair how do you fair with playing time seeing that you are still developing your talent. Sinclair: I have talked to Phil and he has said he may have to loan me out because I will find it very very difficult to earn first team playing time this season. But what's to say I do not out perform somebody at practices? I will look to get my spot and take my chance with my best foot forward. Andy Gray: Last players Belletti and Deco, I'll start with you Belletti. Do you want to end your career with Chelsea? Belletti: Although I know it will be difficult to earn playing time I would like to end my career with Chelsea. Andy Gray: Deco after signing with Chelsea how are things with you and Phil? Deco: Things are great. Along with Phil the whole squad has enjoyed getting to know me and several players have shown out and been exceptionally kind. I am very happy at Chelsea so far! Andy Gray: That's all for now. Coming tomorrow will be transfer updates and a preseason review! Hopefully you enjoyed this interview with new Chelsea boss and several players, until next time I'm Andy Gray reporting for Sky Sports new here at Chelsea FC's training ground in Cobham. ![]() Transfer Update! After yesterday's interview with several players and new boss Phil Scolari we mentioned there could possibly be a transfer update as it was rumored Chelsea were working hard to sign Freddy Adu who was currently at loan with AS Monaco. Well the news just in that Freddy Adu has signed with Chelsea FC reportedly for something near 12 million US dollars or about 6 million euros. His salary is yet to be announced because Chelsea are working on a new deal with him believed to be in the area of 40,000-60,000 US dollars a week. ![]() Picture: Adu during a game for Benfica scoring the winning goal in the 87th minute |

![]() Matchday #1 Chelsea vs. Stoke City London, ENGLAND: Hello football fans I'm Andy Gray giving you the match preview this weekend of Stoke City vs Chelsea FC. First off we will talk about Chelsea's preseason results. (underlined are transfer updates) In their first friendly they went out with their normal formation with a full strength lineup except for the injured Didier Drogba who is out until late September early October. They played a very nice game against PSV Eindhoven having most possesion and playing it around nicely going on to win 2-0 with goals from Deco and Kalou with Anelka and Malouda making appearances around the hour mark. In their second preseason friendly Chelsea played a full strength Benfica beating them 4-1 with 2 goals from Anelka, and 1 from both Ballack and Mikel after Scolari used a very different lineup opting for Anelka, Fabio Paim, Mikel, Bridge, Alex, and Florent Malouda. Scolari was very happy with the result also stating that with such a different lineup it have him a headache after the match who would be starters for him. It was announced after the result against Benfica that Phillipe Senderos had chosen to sign with Chelsea on a free transfer from free agency for reportedly $55,000 US dollars a week. Senderos will add very nice depth to the Chelsea defense and may see some playing time in their final preseason friendly against Lyon Scolari told reporters after a training session the next day. Another signing of Chelsea's was Freddy Adu coming from AS Monaco after the game aginst Lyon for somewhere around $12 million US dollars (scroll up to see more info). There was news out of Lyon this day that Benzema was officially looking for a new club to go to, Lyon are asking for 32-40 million US dollars for Benzema. Benzema had not been sold yet as Chelsea prepared for the final preseason game against them and Chelsea had confirmed interest in the player. Chelsea's lineup against Lyon was:Cudicini Bridge--------Mancienne----Senderos--------Bosingwa (LWB)-------(LCB)------(RCB)--------------(RWB) Mikel (CM) Lampard-----------------------Deco (LAM) ---------(RAM) Malouda----------------Di Santo-------------------Cole (LWM)-----------------(ST)-----------------(RWM) Early on right before the 20 minute mark a player from Lyon crossed the ball to Benzema who got wide open for it and Benzema headed it into the back of the net. At the half hour mark Chelsea had a great opportunity but Deco's rip was deflected for a corner kick. As Lampard crossed the ball in from the corner there was a sudden scramble in the box with two deflections off defenders and finally Joe Cole ripped it into the back of the net. It ended at halftime 1-1. At half Anelka replaced Di Santo and Ballack replaced Malouda as Scolari was looking to put experience on the field and win this friendly. During the second half Lyon and Chelsea both had near perfect chances to score but the finishing wasn't perfect at all. Final score a draw 1-1. After the match Ballack, Anelka, Lampard, and Deco were very dissapointed all wishing they could have several plays redone and thinking what they could have done. It was reported after this match Chelsea had loaned Rhys Taylor out to Cork City. So now after a dissapointing draw away to Lyon Scolari looks to pick up his team and bring them to their first Premier League title since 2006 by kicking off with a bang against Stoke and getting revenge on Manchester United who became Premier League Champs on the last day of the season back in the spring and also beating Chelsea on PKs in the Champions League Final. Stoke City will look to upset Chelsea with confidence mounted around the club after being promoted for the first ever time to the Premier League. Stoke City will go with a full strenth squad suffering no injuries to them. Team News: Chelsea: After preseason performances Anelka will start at striker instead of Drogba and Alex to start on defense instead of Ricky Carvolho. Deco, Scolari's first signing will make his competitive debut starting on the left wing. ![]() Stoke City: Will be looking to Dave Kitson and Dwayne Fuller to lead their attack against Chelsea also with Serensen looking to keep his team in the game by not giving up many goals although that will be hard against a world class Chelsea offense. -Sorensen- -Shawcross-Griffin(c)-Higginbotham-Faye- -Lawrence-Olofinjana-Delap-Pugh- -Kitson-Fuller- Players to Watch Frank Lampard: Frank will be looking to win the league this year after last season's trophy less campaign. A Chelsea blue to the heart signed a new deal this summer and will be looking to impress new manager Phil Scolari with scoring a goal and getting into the attack.![]() Dave Kitson: Kitson will be Stoke's main threat in front of goal this season and will look to get a goal or two against Chelsea and possibly upset them on opening day. Hoping to keep Stoke out of the drop zone this season by providing them with many many goals this season. ![]() Last edited by 14Atlas; 28-11-2008 at 07:18 PM.. |

![]() Venue: Stamford Bridge ![]() Match Report: Chelsea FC take on newly promoted Stoke City on opening day of the 2008/2009 season. Luis Felipe Scolari is keen to start off the season with a bang willing his side to get the 3 points today. First Half: In the first minutes of the game Anelka ripped a shot from 25 yards out which looked like it was on target but just went wide. 15 minutes in Malouda opened the scoring with a brilliant far post shot into side netting after a great set-up from Bosingwa. Suddenly Stoke attacked and the Chelsea defense got sloppy leaving Kitson unmarked to bury the ball into the back of the net. Scolari seemed very angry Chelsea just threw away a lead in little over a minute. It didn't seem to matter though as Chelsea were on the attack once again this time Deco had a shot which Sorensen dived for and deflected away for a corner. After the ball got played around midfield for sometime Chelsea had a throw in, inside Stoke's half past the half hour mark. Malouda passed it to Anelka who sprinted his way through the Stoke defense and blasted it past Sorensen to put Chelsea back on top 2-1 before the break. The whistle blew for halftime with Chelsea going into the break ahead and looking to take advantage again in the second half. Half Time Score: Chelsea 2 Stoke City 1 Second Half: After the restart Chelsea began the half well again totally controlling play but not being able to finish the ball. A perfect chance was set-up for Lampard and rarely does he miss great opportunities like the one he had but he failed to convert. Around the hour mark Stoke City appeared to be putting a chance together but Alex broke it down and Chelsea were on the counter attack. Anelka broke past the Stoke City defense and finished with class making the score 3-1 to Chelsea and it was looking as everyone though it would that Chelsea would win. After the goal Anelka was subbed out for Kalou and Malouda came out for Ballack who was then switched with Deco so Deco played on the wing and Ballack was in the attacking midfield role. Just minutes before it was over J. Cole sent a through the bounced off a flat footed Faye to come right to Kalou's feet. He took the ball and buried it with no sympathy for Sorensen into the net. The game finished 4-1 with the Blues coming out victorious. Final Score: Chelsea 4 Stoke City 1 Match Facts: Chelsea-Stoke City 11(6)-Total Shots(on target)-5(3) 0-Bookings-1 3-Corners-1 59%Possesion-41% 83%Passing-73% After the match it was reported Scolari would give his team a Man of the Match award for every match then a little comment on it. Man of the Match: Florent Malouda Goals: 1 Scolari: Today Malouda impressed me and although he only played a little of an hour he has to be MoM because of his great work in the first half, getting Chelsea ahead after 15 minutes with a wonderful goal and then 15 minutes later creating a great chance for Anelka to bury the ball which he did.

![]() Scolari All Smiles After Win After the victory against Stoke City Scolari was all smiles talking with Chelsea TV reporters about todays match. I'm reporter Clive Tyldsley here doing an interview with Chelsea manager Phil Scolari. Clive: So Phil after this impressive victory what or who performed best for you besides your already reported man of the match Florent Malouda? Scolari: I was impressed with Anelka's ability this game to sprint past defenders and great goals scored. Clive: After Anelka scored his second goal why did you decide to sub out Malouda and Anelka? Scolari: We had the game all wrapped up after that in my opinion but I wanted to keep it in check so I brought on great players like Ballack and Kalou to lock it down with Ballack's physical presence in midfield and Kalou's lightening fast speed I hoped we might even be able to add another goal to the scoresheet which Kalou did for us. Stoke City do not have that ability though to bring on international stars such a Kalou and Ballack which was helpful for us today to have the great players we did ready to come into the game. Clive: Ok thanks for the Mr. Scolari good luck next game against Aston Villa and congrats on your first competitive win for Chelsea. Now we will bring you the Chelsea calendar for August and September August:
13th Home- Chelsea 4 vs Stoke City 1 23rd Away- Aston Villa vs Chelsea 30th Home- Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur September: 6th Away- Portsmouth vs Chelsea 9th Away (Carling Cup) Leyton Orient vs Chelsea 13th Home- Chelsea vs Hull City 20th Away- Wigan Athletic vs Chelsea 27th Home- Chelsea vs Liverpool Last edited by 14Atlas; 28-11-2008 at 08:26 PM.. |

Great signing with Adu, he's a good talent.. And a fantastic win, it was against the new boys, but a 4-1 win will help your goal difference..

![]() Transfer News Around the Premier League Chelsea Sign Star and Arsenal Get $21mil. Keeper News that Real Madrid were looking to sell their keeper Iker Casillas have been confirmed. Early today Casillas was sold to London side Arsenal for $21 million or €13.5 million. It can also be confirmed that Daniel Sturridge has been sold from Manchester City to Derby County for $3.3 million or €1.7 million. There were rumors Chelsea might sign the youngster but Peter Kenyon denied them and a bid was never officially placed by the Blues for him. Transfer rumorings surround Andy Johnson that he could leave Fulham for another Premier League team, rumored to be Aston Villa for what would be around $15 million or €8 million euros. And in the biggest news of the day after Chelsea's thrashing 4-1 victory of Stoke City it was confirmed Chelsea have signed Lyon striker Karim Benzema for nearly $40,000,000 or €25,500,000. The 20 year came up through the Lyon youth system and since has has become a key part of their club but over the summer he apparently has fallen out with new manager Claude Peul and was seeking a new club. It took nearly 2 months but Chelsea has finally gotten their man. Now that Chelsea have signed this young gun it seems imminent that Didier Drogba could be leaving Chelsea. No official word from Chelsea has been made concerning Drogba. Other Chelsea news includes Juliano Belletti ending his career at Chelsea going to Real Betis for $1,500,000.
