Spurs boss names Starting XI
![]() LONDON- Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has named his starting eleven for their upcoming League Cup tie against Southhampton. "While Southhampton are not a team to be taken lightly, I feel the younger players should get a chance against a smaller side." Redknapp stated earlier this morning. It is a heavily weakened side, but as shown in their 5-1 win against Yeovil in the previous round, even a weakened Spurs team is a strong one. "The Yeovil match was wonderful. Absolutely wonderful." Redknapp was quoted. Starting Landon Donovan and Lucas Pratto up top proved wonders, as both new signings had a brace to their name before Frazier Campbell came on to score the fifth. Premier League teams usually take the chance to play younger sides in the League Cup, but lower-division "giant killers", often knock out these youth-inspired Premier League teams, and Redknapp is well aware of this. "This is certaintly not a game to be taken lightly. I will field a younger side, but I will keep some experience in there to keep the game steady." Starting XI: Cesar Bale----- King---Dawson-----Hutton Gilberto--------Boateng-----Taarabt--------Lennon Donovan Pratto Subs: Gomes Woodgate Corluka Bentley Jenas Modric dos Santos |

SPURS ADVANCE IN A THRILLING ENCOUNTER
![]() LONDON- Harry Redknapp and his Tottenham side are one step closer to the League Cup, beating Southampton 3-2. In a post-match press conference, Redknapp stated, "We played sloppy, but we got the result. We will be working hard in training this week." The first half was a boring one, as only one real chance would be seen. In the 17th minute, Landon Donovan picked the ball up at the halfway line and found Lucas Pratto with a perfect through ball. With a defender tugging on his back and the keeper closing in, Pratto released a shot that caromed off the crossbar and was cleared away. Southampton's only half-chance of the half came in the 39th minute when Wotton received the ball around 40 yards out and tried the impossible, nailing the ball into the upper rows of the stadium. They would go into halftime 0-0, with Bentley coming on for a tired Aaron Lennon. Southhampton got the first chance of the second half when John broke free in the 51st minute. Cesar was quickly off his line and gobbled the ball up. Donovan again received the ball at half in the 61st, dribbling into the eighteen-yard box before blasting a shot over the bar. It would be Southhampton who scored first when Boateng gave up a foul just yards from the halfway line. The ensuing free kick was lofted into the box and volleyed home beautifully by John. This inspired Spurs, and Donovan in particular, when, straight from kickoff, Landon took the ball and dribbled through 10 Southampton players and cooly guided the ball into the corner of the net to tie it at 1-1. Tottenham looked certain to take the lead when Pratto broke free in the 88th, but his shot bounced off the inside of the post. The fourth official held up the amount of injury time and it looked bound for extra time, with the score still deadlocked. Frantic play led to Southampton recovering the ball at the Spurs 18. The ball was played back to Surman, who chipped it up and fired a stunning volley into the top corner of the net from thirty yards out. Spurs did not give up, and young Taarabt earned them a penalty in the dying seconds of the match. Donovan stepped up to take it, and he calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, sending the keeper the wrong way. The game would head for extra time, and Landon would complete his hat-trick and seal the win in the 119th minute. Lucas Pratto intercepted a goal kick and sent Donovan clean through to the keeper, and he wouldn't miss from inside the box. Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 Southampton 70- Donovan-------------------68- John 90+ Donovan------------------ 90+ Surman119- Donovan |
